Remember how Martha Shaw from ‘The Notebook’ wanted Noah’s love but couldn’t receive as his heart belonged to Allie? Remember how she found hope in their romance?
As she continued giving herself to someone who was unwilling to return affection, all she wanted was for her shattered dreams to recover. She found hope in the saddest of ways, while I can’t help but ask, what about her?
What about the one you neglected to wallow in self-pity? What about the one who sits in the kitchen awaiting your return, hoping to see you this time around? What about the one who secretly knows that her best friend desperately changes the subject whenever a significant other is mentioned? What about the one who cries alone in her room, wiping away her tears for reassurance? What about the one who’d give her life because of unconditional love?
Martha Shaw symbolizes incredible strength. However, as a man, it’s about finding the path to her heart without the need for instruction. If she has to give such detail, it means you’ve failed to notice what matters. This is why it’s important to make an effort, to find the little things. It’s not unreasonable for her to expect you to read her mind when effort counts for everything.
Some say it’s a flaw for women to want their men to change, but in actuality, it spells for opportunity. The most common excuse is that she wants to take control, but if you explore to discover her reasons, you will understand her desires are from the best of intentions. She wants you to change, not because she doesn’t accept you, but because she believes in you.
There are times when a man can only be defined by his willingness to let a woman in his heart. If you allow yourself to break free from the boundaries of love to find romance, it’s then that your journey of becoming a man begins. You have to open your eyes to realize that her romance can inspire you to fall in love, time and time again.
Love is the realization that possibility will never fail to outweigh the impossible. A man is usually defined by his physical strength and financial stability; the ability to take care for his family, which are valid, but are you man enough to let yourself find your dreams within her love?
To be a man is to let her become your inspiration. It’s about making her your reason and opportunity to become the person you were always meant to be. It’s about rising above sorrow and a desire to find someone better, to instead see better in the one your arms have enfolded. It’s about faith in defying the impossible because she’s always more.
But how do you reach a woman’s heart when she can’t see you, when she had already lost the great romance of her life? How do you break free from the misty look in her eyes whenever you touch her face?
The point is you have to show how much you love her without focusing on her acknowledgment. The art of loving a woman is about giving her wings and hoping for her stay. It’s the momentum of reaching that one moment when she looks into your eyes and realizes her dreams have already come true, making them into your own. It’s to show her she’s loved and not only by you.
Should you spend your entire life carrying the weight of her sorrows just for that one smile, know that it was worth every effort. Her dreams are beautiful and for you to become a part of them is what it means to be a man.Reader, what does it mean to be a man?

I don't even know what it means to be me, or a woman.
I once dated a guy who stopped smoking, stopped drinking, and stopped cussing just to date me. I never asked him to do any of that. Truth be known, I probably wouldn't have dated him very long had he continued in all of them, tho. But, either was, I never said that...he said, he just knew that about me and it was inspiration enough to do it. To me, that is very much stepping up to the plate.
But, I don't know that there is any one, specific definition for what it is to be a "man". In fact, I think that definition may differ depending on each relationship...but I do believe flexibility must be involved.

I've never seen
The Notebook, and doubt that I ever will.
What does it mean to be a man? I've got lots of different ideas, mostly depending on whether or not I'm trying to compare men and women or men and boys. I've spent most of my 'growing up' years living in the southern US (ie, in the South). Being a man around here is about chivalry. It's about honouring and revering women. So being a man becomes an issue of how one relates to those around him.
Wow. That's a good question. Honestly, I don't know because I'm not one so I'm not sure what is the requirement for a guy. I'll definitely give it some thought. Nice

I think to be a good man, one should have the strength and courage to stand up for what he believes, in even if he stands alone. Yet enough wisedom to back down and admit when he's wrong.

Hmm, what is a man? I like the definition I heard in a Korean drama I have been watching. A man is someone who takes responsibility from beginning to end, whatever the consequence, whatever the price, he doesn't let go and doesn't give in and he doesn't run away.

I don't know what it is to be a man ('cause I'm a woman), but it seems to me that being a good person is the most important thing. It's the give and take of kindness, comfort and love with those around you. It's being willing to listen to someone else pour their heart out, and put an arm around them while they cry. It's sharing laughter and always being willing to help one another learn.
I didn't realize how sappy I am. Yeesh.
