  • White People Are Beautiful Too

While watching an episode of my favourite show, ‘The Big Bang Theory’, I noticed yet another racist attack towards lighter skinned people in the land of television.  The Indian character goes on to say to the Jewish:

“You fail to take into account that even mute, I am foreign and exotic, while you on the other hand are frail and pasty.”

In another episode, there was a conversation between a White woman and man.

Penny: “So um, Dave, how do you know Leonard?”

    Dave: “I’m a physicist.”

    Penny: “(Laughs) No you’re not!”

Dave: “Why is that so surprising?”

Penny: “Uh, well, it’s just that the physicists I know are indoors(y) and pale.”

Pale.  Pasty.  I hate those words.  It bothers me how the Caucasian race is associated with weakness and a lack of charisma, but then it’s not only on television.

Racism in the media can only exist when it occurs in real life.  I’ve witnessed it on several occasions, including the time I heard someone say:

“Black women are more beautiful than White.”

    More?

Another woman even had the audacity to blast the entire Caucasian race for hating Blacks.  She went so far as to say that I was also White.

Excuse me?  Do I look White?  Are you blind?

    I’m Chinese!

Apparently, she is blind because according to her, all Asians look the same.  Yet if anyone made such a statement towards the Black community, can we say outrage?

As an international majority, these offences fail to leave me amused.  They’re tasteless and ignorant, but such attempts at humour continue to be swept under the rug because the media has rendered racism against Caucasians to be socially acceptable…

    Unacceptable!

Reader, are you disturbed by the fact that Caucasians are constantly victimized as the defaulted racist offenders, even while they’re the most oppressed race?

  • You know, to agree would probably put me in a lot of trouble, haha.  It's a very taboo thing to mention these days... so I'll just say that racism does go both ways, and that caucasians aren't always the offenders.  I just think that ignorance as a general rule is unacceptable, no matter what creed you are.

  • Um, not really . . . What really disturbs me is the way those guys are holding those huge pieces of chalk while looking at the girl . . .

  • Wow. I never thought of it this way before. *goes away to think*

  • I think that although caucasians have done some really bad things in the past, it's really messed up that other races justify them bashing white people with mistakes white people have done nefore

  • I dont think racism is right towards any race...no matter what the media sweeps under the rug =/, its amazing what ugly things people say and get away with these days. >.<

  • I'll come back later with my opinion.

  • I've posted some angry entries about this topic.. Nice to see people talking about it.

Hmm, sometimes I feel like just a pale and pasty white person.

  • I'm pale (or as my Mama would say, "fair skinned") and I like it.

I avoid the sun and moisturize, so one day the haters will be wrinkled and bitter, but I will still be pale and beautiful. And that will be the best revenge. ;)

But seriously, I don't worry when people say those sorts of derogatory things. People who love me don't care if I'm pasty or purple. The rest are irrelevant. Judging anyone over their skin color (or lack thereof) is ludicrous.

  • You forget that all whites are racist; bigoted; and Republican.

I'm proud to say I am none of the above.

Huzzahs for paying for some other jackasses' mistakes some odd centuries ago; or someone else's current mistakes that have nothing to do with ourselves.

Don't you just love racism? I know I do.

  • I try to tan a lot to avoid all these racial attacks.

  • oh hush. white ppl are pink! & they're gorgeous <3
    i'm marrying a white guy :D

  • @nattata - Doing all those Mexicans helps too.

  • It depends on who is saying it and how it's being said. It annoys the hell out of me when it's in the media, but one-on-one it just depends.

  • Well they aren't attacked the most.
I think racism fails either way.

  • FINALLY someone has put into words the way I feel about racism! I hate it when black people just assume that white people are racist, like say my dad didn't vote for Obama that automatically makes him "hate black people" or something. Or I don't like illegal immigration so that must mean I don't like Mexican people or something when my best friends are all MEXICAN! Sorry for the mini rant but it really ticks me off! Of course, a nice joke has stemmed out of it me and my sister's situation... "It's because I'm white isn't it?" lol

  • well, i'm an albino and i love it.

  • I'm not sure I would say... disturbed, nor that they are attacked the most. I was all ready to spout off with something, but then I read what @MakinzyKrysteenhad to say, and it escaped me.

"People who love me don't care if I'm pasty
or purple. The rest are irrelevant. Judging anyone over their skin
color (or lack thereof) is ludicrous."--Truth.

  • Hm... I've never noticed that white people were targets in the media.

  • I don't think they are the most attacked, although I do think that they are the safest group to attack in the media because they are still perceived as being the group with the most power. Perhaps it's a matter of picking on the big guy doesn't seem as bad as picking on the litle guy.

I think Caucasians have given as well as they have gotten, and frankly, the people who invented the modern system of race as we now use it happened to be Caucasian and they happened to put themselves at the top.

The whole system of race is bullshit anyway. it is bull from the inside and out. I do think we should drop it not just from official usage but from our minds. And I don't mean calling an end to racism and then simply reverting back to the usual system of darker = worse and racist comments = OK. I mean truly putting that crap out of our minds and quit giving benefits and detriments, whether consciously or unconsciously, on the basis of skin color.

  • "Reader, are you disturbed by the fact that Caucasians are constantly victimized as the defaulted racist offenders, even while they are attacked the most?"

Well, I don't think Caucasians should always be blamed for racism and such, but I don't know if I can agree that they're "attacked the most."

Your comment about the woman calling you white reminded me of this time that a white guy in one of my classes said to me, "You're pale enough to pass as a white person!" It wasn't meant as either an insult or a compliment, but I found it to be a really strange remark...

  • Racism of any kind hacks me off.

  • Funny, I don't think you look like Jackie Chan......maybe Jet Li a little.

It amazes me when people think those of another race look the same.  How lazy and arrogant is that?  It's just a matter of caring enough to look at a person properly.

  • Everyone thinks that because most white people are racist, they're not beautiful

And most shows portray Jewish people to be horrible.

  • White and proud of it. Wait, are white people allowed to be proud of their heritage anymore? No, I guess not, because white people are responsible for everything that's bad in the world.

  • I have been told by a black guy that he couldn't be called racist because because he "a member of an oppressed minority", this after after claiming statements I had made AGAINST racism were racist and offensive.  He actually said that my intent in making the statements didn't matter, I was in the wrong, according to him,  because HE was offended by the way I worded them.

  • I do find it a little unfair that black people can make white people jokes all they want in front of white people but very few white people get away with uttering black people jokes around black people.

But then again I think I'd be a little snippity too if their ancestors had enslaved my ancestors for hundreds of years.

Counter stereotyping/attacks against the majority always tend to happen at some point. It's not right but at some point the minority get sick of always being picked on so they tell some jokes in reverse order to releive some tension. It's like a "ha! See how YOU like it!' kind of thing. And at first the majority will be somewhat relieved, because at least they're not the only ones being racist anymore. But after awhile, tables start to turn. The minority gets a little less joking, the majority starts to cringe a little, and suddenly the minoirity is the majority and vice versa.

It's not just with racism. It's with lots of things. Sexism. Agism. Old people always get made fun of by young people so many old people think it's ok to make fun of how YOUNG people are in an attempt to make themselves feel better. And young people are just supposed to laugh along, even if the jokes get rude. Women are allowed to make fun of men right now but not vice versa. Fat people are allowed to make fun of skinny people but not the other way around. It all comes down to a failure of society to adopt the "turn the other cheek" mentality and instead take the "I'm going to make them feel how they made me feel" approach. Is it right? No. But it will probably always happen.

Right now I think it's getting to the point where a larger majority of black people haven't actually experienced anything close to slavery or oppression. Many, if not most, of them were raised in great homes by great parents. Yet many of them still feel connected to their ancestry and history of oppression and feel very bitter about what happened to their ancestors and pass that embitterment down to their children. It's going to take years, maybe a few hundred years, for that bitterness to expire. Do they have a right to keep the memory of their ancestor's enslavement alive? Yes. But do they have a right to be racist towards white people because of it? No. Not anymore than white people have a right to be racist towards black people. I get racism from black people all the time, usually in a joking sense, and it doesn't really bother me too much for the most part. But occaisionally I get annoyed. I have had black friends actually say to me when I"m giving them a hard time: "don't make me play the race card." I.e. pointing out that no matter what I do, they're always going to be able to pull out that "feel sorry for me" card. I'm usually thinking: excuse me? You make twice as much money as I do and were raised in in a much better part of town. And I'm supposed to pity you how?

Anyway, it annoys me sometimes but I guess it's inevitable.

  • I've never been outright pinned for being racist or anything like that.

However, I have definitely been overlooked as someone to be considered "attractive" before. I remember this one day in high school, some boys were talking about the "hottest babes in class" (woot woot), and someone said something about me. Note that it was not something like, "Laryssa's cute" it was something more like, "Who's that one friend of Laryssa's that we never talk to, dude? She's kinda hot."

And then the guy that was being the ringleader for the whole conversation was like,

"Dude, no. Laryssa, that girl, they're just plain white girls. They're not cute."

And then they realized I overheard.

    Yeah, I hated high school.

  • racisim is wrong, end of story :(

and i LOVE the big bang theory

  • hmmm...now that you mention it...  ;)

  • yes. i'm tired of white women being the ugly bane of society.

    thanks for this post.

    :)

  • yeah, exactly it's what I've been saying for years.

  • that statement about physicists being indoorsy and pale don't necessarily mean just the caucasian race.

but no, I'm not the least bit disturbed about it.
    c'est la vie.

  • Not disturbed, exactly.  More like disappointed.  I think we're (Caucasians) painted as the worst racial offenders because some of the most vocal racists have been white.  But ee're not all racist, so don't act like we are.

I can see how calling someone "pale" can be taken offensively, but I don't take offense to it because it's the truth.  I'm absurdly pale, although I'm darker now than when I was younger.  Way back when you could use me for your glow-stick on Halloween.  "Pasty" carries (to me) connotations of unhealthiness.
Race should never be a determining factor in whether or not someone is "beautiful."

  • I wouldn't say caucasians are attacked the most, but people certainly don't get reprimanded the same way when whites are "victimized."

  • hmmm racist is just lame white black blue grey... tan pale....

  • I wouldn't necessarily say they're attacked the most, but racism of any sort is classless and icky.

  • A racist is a racist no matter the skin-tone.

For the record, I am proud of my pastiness. The pastier I am, the less likely I am to give myself skin cancer. (I don't do the tanning thing. I will bring back the porcelain look! I promise! LoL)

  • I feel like everyone is beautiful and no specific look should be considered lesser. Though I suppose faction-forming seems unavoidable, humans love to do it... we love setting up "us" v. "them". Obviously everyone has noticeable physical differences and I don't think anyone should withstand insult due to them. However connotations amass. I worked at a Jewish summer camp and the kids learned a song with the lyrics "I'm not white, I'm Jewish"... as if something is wrong with being white... I think other races are more greatly disadvantaged/insulted though, not that it justifies anything.  I think it is offensive to be attacked for skin color for anyone or to be presumed racist... well really presumptions are offensive... I'm lucky to go to a college where though these issues exist people are more harmonious and accepting.

  • Racism goes all ways, and it doesn't need to happen at all.  Yes, as a white person, I have been the victim of racism by some blacks, just because they assume I feel or think or would behave a certain way because I'm white, when they don't even know me.

I'm not crazy about being white and pasty - or red and freckly.  I burn very easily, my skin gets red too easily, and I have green eyes and reddish hair, which I like, but which makes me very susceptible to all kinds of allergies, etc.  I wish I had darker skin - I do think it's beautiful.

And as far as Asian people go, after now working in a school with many, many Asians, I have now been around these kids enough that they all look completely different to me and they are all unique - they don't just look "Asian" to me anymore.  They are as different from each other as are those of any race.  You just need to be around them more to see the differences.  Everyone is unique.

  • Yeah, it's the same attitude that makes it fine to badmouth Christians, while all other religions are protected.  If you're white AND a Christian, well...God help you!

I think it's funny that she called you white.  Just goes to show that racists really don't give a rip what you are--if you're not like them, you're no good!

  • racism sucks.  period.

  • So many disturbing things in this world we live in and so little time... I don't find it amusing in the same way that I don't find racism against blacks, asians, etc. amusing. I don't completely blame the media either...it's just mirroring real life. Because my grandfather threw out the n-word more often then I'd like to admit, it's now somehow okay to call me a pasty white cracker and people to assume that one racist cracker makes the whole box that way. I don't get the logic, but whatever. I like crackers. They're crunchy and they taste nummy with cheese. Mmm...crackers... *drouls* ... Wait...what were we...? Oh, uhm, yeah, so...can't we all just get along? We could all meet up with Cokes...like in that old commercial, "I would like to buy the world a Coke."...and crackers...with cheese... Mmm...num, num, num...

  • You make a very valid point.

  • This is another form of racism.

  • Meh, I don't care so long as you don't call me Mayonnaise.  Yes, I've been called it before.  I think if you can't laugh at yourself and your race, then what's the point? Your life is just going to be miserable.  Then again, I laugh at all races.

  • Racism is always bad, and I get your point but I don't think some of the jokes on The Big Bang Theory are racist.
Example: I am Arabic and that is usually considered exotic; however, some of us are also usually pale and pasty.
And when I think of people who are in-doorsy, I also think of pale people because of the lack of sunlight they'd be getting.
Pale doesn't always necessarily mean Caucasians/white.
Both "black jokes" and "white jokes" are bad, but I definitely know I hear more "black jokes" and I believe black people still get more racism. I don't think it's time for the white guy to complain just yet...

  • asians do look similar, but blacks even more so. (the really dark ones) i mean, how can you tell them apart when their faces are all so dark? you gotta see them in broad daylight D:

    /end sarcasm

  • I accept it when people talk about how crazy white I am. I'm Scotch-Irish. If I spend too much time in the sun, I will catch on fire.

I have two shades; ivory and crimson.

  • humm...I'm not sure I like the segregation in any way...

  • Well, racism exits, pure and simple.  I do get frustrated by the assumption that whites are always the pffenders and never the victims of racism.  Its simply not that way anymore.
I come from a bi-racial household. My mom is black (step-mom technically) and my dad is white.  I know it is only one family, two groups of people but - my fathers family completely accepted and embraced their relationship - I had feared that they, being a bit 'redneck' and very 'hillbilly,' would be racist.  But they are not.  However - my stepmom was completely disowned by her family for marrying a white man.  And she stuck with my dad even though her (very wealthy) family cut her off and my (very poor) dad was her alternative.  True love, or something like that.  There are a lot of anti-white sentiment out there among other races though, honestly, most actresses/models/people on TV (beautiful people) are still white, so its not yet equal and saying whites are less pretty isn't yet holding to national opinion/standard.
I remember my first day in middle school (I should mention that I always attended near-totally-black schools) I was shoved against the wall by a girl twice my size and threatened until I groveled on the ground and said "I'm sorry for what my ancestors did to your ancestors."  She and her friends walked away cackling.  White girl.
I still get upset about that.
Poop - my family was always been too poor to afford slaves!
I think EVERYONE is racist.  As much as we say we're not, we are, because we notice race.  We think about race.  We're careful what we say to someone of another race because we don't want to offend. We're racist.  EVERYONE.  My dad's been 'married' to my step mom for about ten years now, and they are my family and all this - but there are definitely times when I feel like I stick out because I'm the only white person in the room, or when I anticipate the looks I'll get when I introduce my family to friends (THATS your mom? Really?  You don't look mixed-race!), or when I realize that our race differences give us cultural/behavioral differences.  I'm facist.  I'm not a "bad" racist, but I am one.  So are you.  Hate to let you know.
Anyway, I've a tendency to rant.
    Sorry.
So really - she said you were white?

  • They've had it too good for too long.  I think it's about time for them to get pushed around a bit.  It builds character.

  • @Chinese_Sait0u - I tease my brother that I can't find him in a dark room unless he smiles.
The funny thing is I'm not completely joking.
    Haha.  Love the sarcasm.
I think all people outside your race (or whatever group you spend time most with) kind of blend together.  Once you get to know anyone/any group, you don't notice.

  • @RedheadAblaze - Haha, I laugh at all races too, including my own.  I make fun of my cousin's white boyfriends all the time, and go, "He's sooo white! Like white bread." (referring to his lack of dancing skills and other stereotypical "white guy" stuff).   However, what bothers me is how asian females are fetishised (sp?) by a lot of men, not just Cauasian men.  There are unattractive and attractive girls in EVERY nationality.

  • if i gather my schooling right Caucasians are American whom of which are of European decent.  Right?  Somehow I can see how easy it is for Caucasians to be a main target of racism.  You ever look up the meaning of the word?  By the time we had migrated to Europe and lightened up we had long forgotten what it meant to have darker skin.  In most recent history it has been a white man that has conquered nations.  Alexander the Great, well...maybe he isn't considered a Caucasian... Europe dominated South Africa.  Colonial America? Racism will always exist while there is a dominate submissive nature within ourselves.

  • I like me. And if someone would be idiot enough not to like me just because of the color of my skin, that's their problem. I'm wonderful. I don't need anyone else's approval to make me feel like I'm amazing.

  • I guess in that context, calling someone pale or pasty is offensive, but I'm not so sure I would call it racist. I don't really see the problem with pointing it out or be curious as to what they do to stay that way or why they don't go tanning or something. I never knew the Caucasian race was associated with weakness or  a lack of charisma. Finding someone of a particular race more beautiful than someone else of another just means you have a preference, it's like saying someone with brown eyes is better looking than someone with blue. This is random, but you know what I noticed? You used Caucasian for white, but blacks were blacks. Not saying that is a problem, just an observation. I hate when people generalize and say a whole group of people is a certain way, drives me up the wall! Psh, I'm not trying to figure out what anyone's race is because you never know and it isn't a big deal. I don't think white people are attacked the most though, but that more people are willing to turn a blind eye to it. Okay all that rambling to say racism is racism, no matter what race it is against. It is all wrong and it sucks.

  • is it too much to wish that we can all just see each other as human beings and what's inside of us? yeah, I guess it is...

  • Anyone read any post-colonial theory around here??? How about multicultural theory?

    See any problems brewing here?

  • there would be no tv sitcoms without stereotypes.

  • yeah.. I totally agree with you..

And I've had one of my korean friends called white before!

    ..Whaat??

  • For years and years...white guilt has kept caucasians believing that we must watch every word for possible offenses to someone while anything directed against us is justifiable because our ancestors oppressed your ancestors

It's b.s. and its nice to see someone calling it.

  • @LucyWrites - Excellently said :)
    To the writer:
Your examples from the Big Bang Theory do not support your thesis.  I watched both those episodes, and those were not anti-white jokes.
1st Joke:  Rajesh was pointing out the obvious fact that Wolowitz IS indeed a frail, pasty loser, not making a jab at the entire caucasian race.
2nd Joke:  Penny was making fun of the well known fact that many scientists are indeed indoorsy and hence pale.
In both these jokes paleness is ridiculed because it is the result of hermit-like work and study that is time consuming and doesn't allow much time for play and fun in the sun; it is not a jab at the caucasian race.
"the media has rendered racism against Caucasians to be socially acceptable"

Ever watched an episode of Family Guy?  If you haven't, I suggest you do sometime soon because it's a prime example of how the media has made racism against EVERYONE acceptable as long as it produces the LOLs.

"Reader, are you disturbed by the fact that Caucasians are constantly victimized as the defaulted racist offenders, even while they are attacked the most?"

Really?  They're attacked the most?  I don't think many people would agree with you on that one.  Racism exists against everyone, but somehow I don't think many people are going to rise with you in an effort to make known the plight of the white man (har har har, I say that with no racist connotations) in a world that is still struggling with the aftermath of colonialism (aka the concentration of wealth and power in the West).

  • @nimbusthedragon - i totally agree.  you've spelled out my views on it pretty well.

  • They are attacked the most? :S

Any kind of racism pisses me off.

  • dear dear ricky.
are you trying to make a point of any kind?
white people are white pasty and peachy.
i do not think because some people have a sexual
preference that does not include white people is racist too.
i am white. i am a peace loving hippie.
i have friends of all color combos and religions.
i would not sleep with a black girl.
    not because she is black.
but because black girls are not attractive to me.
    does that make me racist?
same with most any girl that is not white.
    am i a bigot?
another thing id like to point out is the fact that
the big bang theory is written
by geeky white people, for geeky white people.

sorry man... i just think your posts are bollocks and you do not know what you are talking about.

your opinions are your own. i respect that.

but you quoted a few lines from the whitest tv show in the world.
it is a badly written show, after they ran out of star wars and computer jokes where else were they going to turn?
and the fact that someone called you white even though you are asian.

are either of those things racist towards white people?
    i do not believe so.

  • @for_ever_mustard - HA! wish i would have read yours first... you said everything my sleep deprived brain could not have.

  • Not really.

I always thought it was what's on the inside that made someone beautiful, not their skin colour, so there goes that whole factor regarding this post. Maybe those people are just completely hideous, wow, good for them.

It's easier to just let it go than make a fuss. Things you don't like, eg. racism are always going to be around and happen, but life goes on.

  • Racism is one of the worst forms of human nature. I don't know about racism against whites, since I don't live in the Western world, but here in Asia there's racism amongst all the races. Chinese, Indian, Korean, Jewish, Iranian, Japanese... well, the list goes on. I don't think it's fair to say that one particular race is the target of most racist remarks, if we're talking about racism on a global scale. We all are targets of racist remarks, to an extent.

Of course, "glorifying" it in the media is just unacceptable!

  • I don't think so...................!

  • It's the whole an eye for an eye deal. Because caucaians have done horrible things in the past and have been known for racisim, now other races are trying to get their own and be racist back. As if that solves anything, it only helps to make the problem worse...

  • I think the thoughts that black, asian, latina, etc. people are more attractive than whites is the notion of exoticism that people subscribe to. The media definitely doesn't do anything to help combat those type of stereotypes....BUT, I want to tell you that the Indian character in real life certainly doesn't feel the way his character comes across. He's an acquaintance of mine, and I studied acting with him for a semester, cool guy in real life.

I don't believe white people are as vocal as other groups when it comes to things they feel are stereotypical towards them which is why it may be swept under the rug un-noticed....as far as that show tho, none of the characters have much charisma, regardless of race lol.

  • Thank you!! I'm mixed (half white and half asian) but I constantly get these attacks. A couple days ago my friends from Bangladesh and India wanted to take pictures, so we did, and they told me to go away because I'm too white and make them look bad. Even though it was a compliment in a sense, it felt awful when they literally told me to go away. Another example is how my friends would always tell me to get a sun tan. What is wrong with being white? Should I feel bad that I do not look like my mother who has a nice toasty tan skin. I get so sick of it sometimes. I just wish people who stop hating on white people. It happens all the time and they think it's acceptable when it is not and when it actually hurts.

  • Something else I find dangerous, which you did not do however, is when people clump together all the "white" people. You were careful enough to use the term "caucasian"... because just like Asian people (most of my friends, actually, because it's happened to them) would find it offensive if say I started calling them all Chinese just because of certain physical traits they have, when say, they were actually Korean, or Japanese, or Philippino, etc... It's kind of ignorant to just bunch all "the whities" together as the sole group responsible for the "evil" in this world.  And I'm only saying this, because I've had the experience, first hand, of that assumption being placed on me, just because I'm a pasty white person, haha.   I guess another player in this is history, and people who are still resentful of the past....

I mean, my ancestors?  They were a bunch of Irish folks who got kicked out of Ireland by the British during a potato famine.  They were too busy starving to subjugate anyone, and hey, they were oppressed by other white people.  Imagine that.  But someone might look at me, call me "white" and assume my ancestry involved part of the British Empire bringing slaves to America.  And even so, HEY, I don't hate the British people from this era, because technically I "could"... seeing as they sent away my ancestors on cholera boats to die, after having ravaged and stolen their lands, and are responsible for most of the slavery in the so-called Western World, historically-speaking. .  Another example is my friend, in highschool, an exchange student from Germany... all anyone would ask her, right off the bat, is how she felt about the Nazis, or if her grandparents were Nazis, just because she was FROM Germany. Nobody bothered to think that hey, even if her grandparents somehow were (they weren't) SHE is not them. Or maybe, she just MOVED to Germany... or better yet... MAYBE NOT ALL GERMANS ARE FASCISTS. *sigh*

The point is, people have GOT to be careful about racial generalizing in any form, unless it's within a group of friends where that sort of thing is acceptably funny.... because everyone has a different story, and we are not the people our ancestors were.  We can be better, we can be more tolerant, and more accepting. I just think that history is history, and that people should be accountable for their actions NOW, because there's not much they can do about the past except for learn from it.  I'd like to think that a number of us have, and are different people from those that were around before.

The thing we can do NOW, is not to assume anything of anyone.  It's a tall order, because sure, as humans, we have a biological tendency/need to categorize... and we all do it.  But the key is to be aware of these tendencies, and really take the time to find out about the people around us... and perhaps to just STOP judging on outward appearances, because we are now more than mere animals.

Anyway. Sorry about the novel.  Interesting topic, is all.

  • Um, I don't know if you know this but Geeks & Nerds are always portrayed as weak, pale or pasty, it doesn't have much to do with their race.

Also, have you seen TV, Movies, Magazine or anywhere else for that matter? White women (and men) are all over the place. You're upset with a few jabs, but we are bombarded with images of these "pale" or "pasty" individuals.

Heck, even Tyra Bank's "America's Next Top Models" is 90% white...

  • I'm a little white girl and this does disturb me! Whether you're black, white, hispanic, asian, polka dot, or purple, you are all beautiful in the eyes of God!!!!!!!!

  • I usually live in the Memphis area and most of my work is done in the city of Memphis. In Memphis the population breakdown is = * Racial Make Up: Black -- 61.1% White -- 33.6% Asian -- 2.4% Other Races -- 2.9% . In Memphis I am in the minority. I look white, and it's all about looks here. Our politicians from time to time even go on the news to say that a local political office must be filled by a black person or the city will not be represented, I'm sorry but that is simply ignorant. The fact that I have a slave as an ancestor is irrelevant. I look white therefore I am white. I run into little acts of racism all the time here some are subtle others obvious. I tend to ignore both. It does sadden me though that in our society people still can't seem to get past the hate and fear. It saddens me that when working with children I hear the same hateful racist statements coming from them that I have heard from adults. I like what our mayors are doing to improve out city but unless we get past this skin color issue Memphis can never fulfill it's potential on the world stage.

  • I think anyone of any color can be racist, and I am glad to see other people see it that way as well.
I, too, get annoyed when "pale" is used to be synonymous with "uninteresting". I know plenty of beautiful and interesting people of all races, white included.

But I can't say I agree that white people are victimized the most. They're just the most socially acceptable group to make fun of in the US. I think when it comes to actual hate crimes, other races are victimized way more.

  • I totally agree with asdfghjkieu, White people are Pink! So I don't know what you're talking about.

  • white people can only get so offended by words. that's because, more often than not, they're just words. racist remarks to minorities, however, have a different kind of weight because of the history of our country.

a white person makes racist remarks about blacks and people conjure up images of segregation, lynchings, slavery, etc...because the history is there.

reverse that, though, and the worst images that come up for white people are chris rock or something "somebody said"

not saying it's right. just saying what it is.

  • I'm pretty sure I've never been attacked for being caucasian, but I have seen Asian and African friends attacked by caucasians for being Asian or African.  So, whatever hate is out there towards the caucasian race, I think it stems from a history of provocation.

  • I'm just annoyed by racism, period.

  • i seriously doubt the majority of people think that minority females are more attractive than white women. if that were so, then you wouldn't see as many minority females dying their hair blond and using contacts to make their eyes lighter. and i thought that in most minorities, the lighter you are, the more attractive you're considered. sooo...sorry, i don't get that point about white women not being considered attractive to everyone.

as for the pasty comments, i think they literally have to do with the fact that the person's skin IS pasty. nothing to do with the whiteness, all to do with the lack of sunlight the person/group of people are believed to get. i don't think it was meant to offend.

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Oh gawd! I love these "No really we are the REAL minority" things from white people(who despite there being a picture of an asian person on this blog...yea...white go wrote this)

OK, so once in a while a comment is made about the white and pasty. So what? Every race is picked on once in a while in the media? And if you have a problem with it, blame yourself. No really blame yourself because the highest selling demographic, the one that pretty much controls the media and elections is middle class to upper middle class white male between ages 18-55. So pretty much based on the numbers in most cases upper middle class white guys rule the world. Somewhere the tested that joke on one of those white guys...and he laughed so the network used it. And truth be told I would bet money that that joke was written by a white guy.

Ultimately don't like being called pastie? GET OF YOUR COMPUTER AND GET A NICE HEALTHY TAN.

Because the truth is if you were being mocked for something you can't help, like say you're Chinese and you were being mocked for being Chinese, that's wrong. But to be a white guy who doesn't get a lot of sun, to find issue with the fact that American beauty standards don't find pale people quite as attractive (although I must disagree because people like Claire Dianes, Gwenyth Paltrow, and MANY others are reknowed for being beautiful AND PALE), then you take issue with there being beauty standards all together and I hate to tell you kid but that's life. Grow up and deal with it like everyone else. Just spare me these entilted lectures were you are faking offense against nothing. It takes away from serious issues. What's funny is this looks exactly like something I saw from the KKK website. LOL, so if you have any more problems join that group because just like you they haven't figured out if they weren't ignorant white guys complaining about how hard they have it they would realize they have everything and start cultivating into success instead wallowing in self pity.

  • I <3 Big Bang Theory too hah, totally amazingly funny show!

  • I am Caucasian and I don’t like the fact that people think that we
are all racist even when we are mainly victims of racism but who isn’t? I have
come to learn that no matter what we say or do, racism will still be out there.
I have learnt to deal with it. But even after learning to deal with it. It
still annoys me, how people can stand there and say 'don’t be racist' when they
    are being racist themselves.

  • I take history, and every issue is a racist issue. I feel sorry for many white people, they're being swept under the rug too much. If only we could live in perfect harmony. :)

  • i'm pale... kinda pasty.

  • I don't know that Caucasians are "attacked the most" that's a pretty difficult claim to prove, but I am tired of racism in general, whether it goes from white to asian to black to bleh. [This stupid race system, who thought up that?] People are people, people look the way they do, it can't be changed. Get over it.

Seriously, I don't know how many times I have to say this, but I will be so happy when this country is completely mixed up, that it won't make a difference what "race" we come from.

  • @wonderinthru - Agreed. I know for a fact "minorities" are not as exalted as Caucasian women. I don't know where she's getting that claim from. If so, they wouldn't be completely invisible as average Caucasian men decipher them to be.

  • @IfonEarth - wonder what sort of answer your classmate was expecting 'oh gee really?? thank you??'

any kind of racism is a disgrace, one of these days everyone will be biracial, and everyone will be just as beautiful as each other.

  • But what about those of us who can't tan and go straight to burning, hmm?

Yeah, I hate the whole thing too. Maybe someday everyone will worry about character and mind instead of pigmentation. And maybe pigs will fly.

  • hmm .. not that ive ever actually seen or noticed this being said cos i live in a place where every 1,000 whites there 1 non white. Racism is just stupid. white's are not more racist , black arnt, brown, yellow, pink . whatever, there racism averywhere, you acnt really pin it down to any one race.

  • "Reader, are you disturbed by the fact that
Caucasians are constantly victimized as the defaulted racist offenders,
even while they are attacked the most?"

Yes, it's disturbing.  I don't know if Caucasians are attacked the most, though.  Maybe on a subconscious level.  It's usually not as overt as the racism directed at other groups.

I hate the fact that certain segments of society say I'm supposed to hate myself because I'm white.  I hate the fact that I can't be proud of my heritage (due to things like colonialism and slavery, things that my poorer-than-dirt white ancestors probably had nothing to do with), while people of colour are allowed to express their pride in their race.

  • Completely.

  • Racism from white people are usually less aggressive than racism from international minorities but correct me if I'm wrong. Just a personal observation. I've had less white people come to me slanting their eyes toward me than black/hispanic people.

  • I don't think it's such a big deal

  • Except those people with blue eyes.  They're definitely of a lesser being than people with green eyes.

And those people with that dark brown hair...ooo, so much better than those blondes.

(If the above seems ridiculous, that's b/c it is.  What makes skin color different from eye or hair color?)

My views still are, and have always been, it's ridiculous.

  • I "look" white, but truthfully, I have african american, black italian, italian, scottish, and cherokee. I'm far from 'white'. It's so frustrating that people think they're better just because of their color.

  • @woodrowwilson - I don't know if you knew this (obviously not) Irish people were used as slaves JUST like aAfrican Americans. They were tortured and treated like dirt; but because there were more African American slaves, and they were actually inslaved for color, it is much more known. Also, the irish would be inslaved just because they're irish.

  • racism against the majority..hmm...i don't know. everyone in every color can be a victim of racism. but for the record, i agree with most other people in that i don't see white people being targets of racism. but then again, as a chinese, i am only on the lookout for racism against my own race.

  • I'm not too offended. I think people just don't know the deffinition of racism at times. Great post! I too, love The Big Bang Theory.

  • Strictly speaking of the conversations on Big Bang, I don't think those were meant to me racially crude. They were just associating paleness to the fact that scientist spend a lot of time indoors therefore not getting much sun.

However, your other points on racism I agree with.

  • i think every race is equally targetted with racism. if you take any kind of ethnic studies you'd find how much people degrade each and every race.

i know it's bad but i laugh at racist jokes. but mostly the ones against my own race.

  • Honestly I just pass it off as comedy show. Can't over analyze everything else I'll start to go crazy.

  • I had a black friend tell me one time that "all of you white girls look the same to me," and another one say "I'm not gonna have some white boy talk to me like that." Both of them failing to realize, I am a white person! Don't hate on me because you know you wouldn't want me saying that about you!

  • I don't know if they're attacked the most, but it is certainly more PC to attack whites than other races. People will think you're racist if you attack minorities. People will think you're funny if you attack whites.

  • What! This is so not true. What about the blonde hair and blue eyes look? White girls are gorgeous!

  • you should realize that racism goes in every direction possible.  you only notice the ones that are directed towards you ignoring all else...  why?  because you're not eh other person, don't live in their shoes, and don't see it that way or just choose not to...

  • I didn't read the rest of the entry as this already had flaws in it from the get-go.  I'm pretty sure that in this situation, they're talking about people who don't go out into the sun.  THIS SHOW IS ABOUT NERDS.  It's the same as making jokes about people who play WoW all day and don't get any exposure to sunlight.

Nice try, but these statements were taken out of context.  They're not comments indicating anything about race, but how much time each character spends indoors.

  • I have a cousin who was an actor on such shows as Murder, She Wrote and other whodunits. He is tall and blond and Nordic looking. More often than not, he was cast as a bad guy.

  • I noticed it and I hate it

  • i think everybody should stop being racist in any way. the whole world is stupid. and the only reason it's socially acceptable now to be racist against white/caucasian people is because it used to be acceptable to be racist against 'coloured poeple.'

the whole thing is stupid. who cares how many colour pigments you have in your skin!?
    ugh.

[although i do agree that brown skin is gorgeous, white people can still be more attractivee]

  • Yes. I am disturbed the fact that America is the leading country of diversity and yet not all of us can accept diversity.

  • My name's not Reader.

  • I'm pale and yeah it is irritating but I try not to let it bother me. At least I won't have skin like leather like those who worship the sun. It is just insane because it shouldn't matter if a person is purple if they happen to be awesome.White people do seem to be a more acceptable target not that that makes it right since racism is just stupid and not exclusive to just one race.

  • I love being pale! Hahaha. I try to avoid the sun.

  • well actually white racism does exsist. They're are no slaves on here so nobody has been personally afflicated enough to bring that up. I notice nobody brings up WWII to anyone German. Can I also point out there were more irish american slaves at one point then there were 'black slaves' but they dont constantly shout that at anyone white and not irish. So, the point Im gettin to slowly, is one....you cant argue with history, nor change it, nor make up for it. why should i have to? Im not racist? How do i no my ancestors were? They could have been against slavery..... Secondly......ALL RACISM IS CRAP!!! nobody should be racist, but they are.So instead of listening to every slight comment....over analysing and going on...just ignore it or dont watch it!

People suck! So does racism, but hey, that life! You dont wanna hear it? Dont listen. Coz racism will never go away will it?

  • Nice job on pointing this out. It doesn't really bother me if it's just a meaningless joke, but more often than not it is strengthened with a whole lot of passion.  Either everyone needs to be able to make jokes about everyone else (in a friendly way) or else all this crap would have to stop. There will never be a happy medium while people are still thinking the way they are.

  • what i also hate is that as a white person everything i do is characterized by "that's so white!" or "that's so black" by other people. funny thing is, when you're not white you can stereotype white people however you like and it for some reason doesn't violate the whole pc thing

  • this is retarded. i'm sorry but anyone who's shocked is just oblivious. there's still tons of racism out there. my friend lives in an area where it's still the norm to refer to black people as the N word but where i live that would cause outrage and awkward silences like no other. it just depends on where you go.

  • very true indeed.

  • I say we get rid of racism and just discrimminate against those with handicaps. I only say this because of my passionate hatred toward the blind.

  • I don't think Big Bang was making fun of white people.  Raj was calling Howard pasty and frail, not insulting all white people.  In the second excerpt I think Penny is just contrasting the physicist (supposedly stuck in a lab all day and never seeing the light of day) with the physically fit jock (supposedly tanning a buff body while playing basketball or scaling mountains).

I think pale can be very beautiful, but I do associate the word "pasty" with being sickly.   I fall into the pasty category- that's why my pic is pink!

  • i rare see white people being victimized, but it could be because i don't really watch television. honestly though, i think other races have it worst.

btw i'm asian, and i don't mind having pale skin!!!

  • I never really noticed racism against white people. I mean, most of my friends are black and asian, I only have like 2 white friends, and I'm white, so I'm always getting called white girl or something like that haha. But no one ever says to me that white girls are ugly, if anything most of my guy friends love white girls. But they really only love the blonde hair, blue eyed look, like what I look like. Its a matter of opinon though.
No offense to white guys, but I rarely ever find a white guy attractive. Poeple always call me a racist for that but I dont think that makes me racist, just because I dont think they are good looking doesnt mean I cant think they are a good person.
But it doesnt matter to me if people say racist remarks to me against white people, people think what they want and I cant change their mind so why waste my time on them? I guess people are just going to have to learn how to deal with it and understand that there's ignorant people out there and you just need to know that you are above them :)

  • "Pale" and "pasty" are words to describe people who are not in the sun much.
For instance, I know quite a few Asian people who have naturally tan skin (in comparison to my skin), but really are what I would call pale and pasty. Their skin does not have the full color it would if they went in the sun the normal amount.

    Racism sucks, though.

  • Please tell me that you are kidding!

I find this hilarious because I didn't think that white people (or whoever else is offended) cared that much about what anyone else (other races) thought of them (except the fact that they are not racist), let alone actually KNOW what others thought of them. This stuff is not new. People have always thought whatever they wanted. What's different is that now their expressions are more public.
It's like that time I was in my sociology class and the professor put up a list of stereotypes on the board and the whole class had to call out what group was associated with it. Of course most of them were obvious to everyone but one said "hair smells like a wet dog when wet". The minorities in the class yelled out "whiiiiiiiiiiiiiite people!" Now, I have heard that my whole life growing up, it's the first time I saw it put out there like that. A white girl in the class was so exasperated that she went up to the professor after class and complained and the professor, who is white herself, was like, "Do you not know that there ARE NEGATIVE stereotypes associated with our race??" Obviously, the girl didn't.

The part that makes me laugh is that now some would feel threatened. By what?!!? White people are a majority in this country and hold the most power. They have the power to act on their dislikes of other groups of people like banning them from local establishments, lynching people, passing LAWS that kept certain groups of people out of the country, that kept certain groups from marrying, etc.

So, yes, the fact that you get bent out of shape because someone calls you "pale" or "pasty" is very funny to me. There are worse things to be called and described. People are not questioning your intellect.

Every race has stereotypes about them whether those be negative or positive. And, yes, that includes white people, too. I guess now they are being made more public.

  • you just don't feel it because you aren't white.

  • tired of racism. fuck racism.

  • ... seriously?!

well, maybe its cause im looking at it from the asian male perspective. We have it pretty bad.

  • @goD_I_V_Aunc10 - whoa. excuse me. but i do not pity you AT ALL! most of the negative stereotypes are true about black people. and don't feel bad because of that. you get WAYYYY more opportunities to make a difference in the wolrd because you are black and not as much is expected from you. everyone thinks that black people won't go to college, volunteer, etc. so what do you get? benefits!!!! meanwhile all the hardworking white people have to pay for the benefits that we deserve but don't get because of the color of our skin. and please... BLACK PEOPLE ARE WAYYYYY MORE RACIST THAN WHITE PEOPLE!!! Do we have magazines titled "white woman" or television channels like BET? if we did it would be racist. you are furthing rasicm by insisting that you get special treatment because of your race!!! whites do not keep the racism! blacks do!

  • I agree with you. This year's election has made it extremely obvious that racism isn't "the white people's fault." Because of something that our great-grandparents did, we're all punished. Let me make one thing clear: I do not believe in slavery, nor do I condone it, support it, etc, etc. It's wrong. It's wrong to be racist & cruel to someone just because they're different from YOU. I'm proud of my skin, just as an African-American or a Latina person should be proud of his skin. Love who you are! Be proud.

  • YES! I thought I was the only one. I'm asian too btw. I hate the hypocrisy. Racism is wrong period. So Stop it. I also hate it when they just sit there and take it. It's so aggravating.

  • i definitely wouldn't say they are attacked the most.
and i would say that when they are, it is not nearly as damaging to their place in our social hierarchy.
racist assumptions about people of other races may not be vocalized as often, but they are deeper and more damaging than racist assumptions about white people.
on top of that, i think that comment from  Big Bang Theory is not necessarily an attack on white people but rather could be seen as a way of exposing our cultures tendency towards fetishizing the perceived "exotic".

  • well, my Indian and African friends in college liked to make really nasty comments about me being white, so yeah, i know all about racism directed at us pale & uncharismatic whiteys. the generalizations they said at me were sooo fucking rude >: /

probably why i'm not friends with them anymore, especially since my family had nothing to do with any of the oppression they're claiming i'm associated with (my family were WWII refugees from Prussia!!!)

  • I'm Hispanic... and according to people's minds... I'm stupid, a gang banger (wtfudge?), a thief, and Catholic (NOT that there's anything wrong with being Catholic). PLEASE people don't judge others. EVEN if you know them. You're not perfect. Neither am I.

  • I think a lot of people need to lighten up (no pun intended). I refuse to be victimized by anything like this -  I'm white, Catholic, and republican, and I could get massively butthurt about all manner of nasty things said about those and frankly lots of others. Ultimately, what does it matter? If you don't like me because of how I look or because I think differently than you do, by all means, find someone else closer to your comfort zone.
That said, I think the lines from the show reflect not so much racism, but a strange fascination with tanning in our culture, that somehow tan is inherently more attractive than fair-skinned. Why? You got me. Strangely enough, the opposite seems to hold true for much of East Asia, where in the past being tan meant that you spent your time working outdoors - i.e., poor. My fiancee (who is from Japan) freaks out whenever I mention how pale I am, because she doesn't want me to be any darker than I am. This works out well for me, because I'm the whitest piece of wonderbread you'll find anywhere and I go from zero to lobster in just over 15 minutes, courtesy of my English/Irish genes.
And yes, I am a pale physicist...

  • Shhh, better not let anyone here you say that.  Only members of the KKK would dare to defend the white race, you know.

  • racism is just not right. thats all there is to it.

  • I wouldnt say Caucasians are attacked the most. Your perception might make it seem that way because you are Caucasian and wouldn't know/notice/be affected by racial attacks directed to others.  Everyone deals with racism sweetie.

  • Let's just say there is only 'racism' against ugly people...
this is easier.  That way, we just have to fight one thing.

  • Personally, I'm not all that offended when someone makes a comment about white people being ugly. That comment is by, no doubt, rude but I can't be mad if they aren't attracted to white people. It's like getting mad over someone not liking a certain color because that's their own preference, unless they are truly biased for some idiotic reason. On the other hand, calling white people frail and making other generalizations is completely ignorant. I think it's just socially acceptable for whites to be attacked since we have made some serious mistakes in mistreating others for their race (aka killing Native Americans and forcing blacks into slavery) and we are the founding race of the current society of America. To me, it seems like a lot of white people have just been taught to think that we are politically correct when ignoring stupid comments like these. By no way do I condone this behavior, but it's definitely an issue to not be ignored. Hahaha, the only reason I think people haven't noticed this is because a) they are white and fail to be around any other nationalities or b) they act this way and don't even realize their actions are wrong.

<title>Enter text herWhat I really disagree with this opinion is that white people are attacked the most. I can only assume from experience that the two racial groups that are patronized the most are African
    Americans and Mexicans.

  • Right on. Pale is beautiful.

  • Racism goes either way, people just tend to see it one way. Blacks think whites are racist, whites are blamed for being racist (towards anyone) etc... I'm not sure if whites are attacked the most though, but either way it's wrong and no one should let themselves be so ignorant.

As for the rest of the post, being a (relatively pale) white girl, I hate it. Even before I was bombarded with images of tan is beautiful, asian is prettier etc, I did not like it. I don't, however, think that I am racist because I think asians, blacks, or any other race for that matter are more beautiful than "my own kind". ...Maybe it's due to the fact I'm American; people are either fat or too skinny? I just don't find Caucasians (more specifically the women) very attractive.

I look at a person, and then if they seem interesting, I delve deeper, no matter their skin color. My personal preferance has no standing in day to day life. We're all going to be a shade of brown in the future anyway...

  • eh, it's been said before but racism goes both ways. It shouldn't be acceptable, but it's going to take a long time for people to see the both ways part. It's almost funny though, I've been told when I leave the US that all people here look the same-blond hair and blue eyes. Last I checked I would be probably get in huge trouble if I said that here... Foreigners all look the same to someone else.

  • hmm i'd say it's actually subtle racism toward colored women when people say that they're more exotic or beautiful. people tend to see colored women as exotic and sexy, and are thus more likely to objectify them because they're different from the norm.

  • You know, i think its really more of a slur against geeks who stay inside too much and get all pasty frmo lack of sunlight. Penny was making a comment on the fact that Leonard actually looked healthy, not that he was white. And come on, Howard is just nerdy and pasty to start with. Its a geek joke, not a racial slur.

  • I like the word pale. You have an interesting point but it fails.

  • I'm not offended by statements like that because they truly only express the speaker's ignorance.

However, what I am offended by is the fact that, for some reason, white is the only race that isn't allowed to say anything while all the other races have a free-for-all.

  • Yeah i agree. It's commonplace for coloureds to refer to whites as "honkys" and "crackers" and whatnot and no one bats an eye, so yeah, I would definitely say that whites are the most oppressed racial group in the country.

  • I don't know.  I just don't think calling someone pale or pasty is an attempt at a racist remark against the white race.  There are black people who are pale too.  And then, there are other comments that can be deemed just as "socially unacceptable" such as when someone says someone's too dark or someone's too light.  As far as I'm concerned, it's fine to find fault with such statements, but being pale isn't equivalent to being ugly.  There are plenty of people who are attractive and pale.  But I don't know.  It kind of disturbs me that you're this pissed with people being racist against the white race when you're Chinese.

  • As a white chick speaking, I don't really think that white people need anyone to *rush to their defense.*
While discrimination is always wrong... being called ugly really isn't a big deal.

but hey! people blog about unimportant things all the time. So do as you please, obviously.

  • Commenting on someone's "pale/pasty" skin is not racism. Denying them a job, or giving them a longer prison sentence BECAUSE of their skin tone IS racism.

    "Racism" connotes systematic oppression.

A lot of your assumptions are wrong.

  • I guess calling someone pale or pasty could be racist, or just a comment on how one looks, unless of course you don't think pale or pasty are good words for describing people of a really light skin tone.

It was also a physicist joke, sort of saying that physicist's are locked in a lab and don't get much sun.  On the other hand I generally don't think of to many phrases these days as being racist, just because I find it hard to say what one says it somehow discriminating against someone else based on there race.

Oh also white is not a race, nor is being black at least if your gonna get technical about it.

  • White people as targets in the media??? Umm... I think you're confused.

You're addressing issues of beauty and self-depreciating senses of humor; I'm pretty sure a good majority of the writers for the big bang theory are white.  In the Philippines everyone wants to be "pasty" in America everyone wants to be "tan." Grass is always greener on the other side.  People need to just love themselves for who they are.  But this as racism???? I mean I definitely know there are instances of reverse discrimination in society but you're just kinda over-reacting in this case.

  • @LLroomtempJ - "Racism" connotes systematic oppression.

and by using the word "connotes" you aren't usuing the real definition-only the personally biased one.

  • i have to say that i've never really been been made fun of for my skin color by any other race than other caucasians. even so, it's hurtful. i try to tan...but skin cancer risks do scare me a bit, and i look weird tan. however, this girl at my school was asked once if she tanned, and she said "who doesn't? nobody looks good pale." it's just depressing that people really think that way.

i'm not going to say that white people are discriminated against, becaus ei think that most are very priveleged, but i do think that there are people that think it is okay to make fun of whomever they want. it's not okay though to hurt peoples' feelings.

    <3 micalyn

  • @vetpet91 - noun:

    1. a belief or doctrine that
inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural
or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own
race is superior and has the right to rule others.

    2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

    3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

I can see what you're saying. You're accusing me of doing exactly what i'm accusing ricky of doing (are you?).

  • Racism is wrong either way towards any "race" and everyone can be a victim of it. That said, white privilege is a phenomenon that can't be ignored. The fact that people think it's okay to be racist against white people shows the almost universal concept that has been ingrained into cultures that white people are superior, therefore it hurts them less to be discriminated against and only brings them off their already high pedestal. And as far as I have experienced, fair skin is preferred in the majority of the world anyway.

In the end, race is just a social construct. I can go into a whole argument about that but I'll stop here. Racism is bad. Simple as that.

  • @LLroomtempJ - yes. :)  i see what you're saying too-that maybe racism isn't the right word, and that racism goes further than just a prejudice. however, i also think that there may be cases in which caucasians deal with more than just prejudice. i know that it often isn't to the same extent that other races may deal with, but there are situations...

    <3 micalyn

  • I agree some shows completely lack intellect and have no value whatsoever for different reasons (Jon and Kate plus 8 and South Park come to mind).  But the racism that I've seen I generally don't see as offensive.  Because racism is based on stereotypes and stereotypes are just that.  However, because so often people disguise hatred as jokes, I do see your point.

I know and can judge for MYSELF whether I THINK someone is beautiful or not, and I find people of all "races" beautiful so btw I'm not prejudiced one way or another.

In response to your question, I'm not sure whether whites are attacked the most in any regard.

  • Caucasians are NOT attacked the most. I don't even know how you could of typed that.

  • It seems to me that a lot of white kids today are raised to feel guilty about being white.  Like everything that has happened in the past, every injustice that has ever been committed, everything ever said by someone who happened to have the same general skin tone as we do is directly our fault.  I'm kind of sick of apologizing for something I've never been, never said, never thought.

  • White peopl are deffinintly not attacked the most , lol but sure i understand what you're trying to say...

  • First of all, I totally agree with that. It's almost like the world feels bad that African Americans and other races used to be slaves so now they just let Caucasian comments go because it's all our fault. I think it's ridiculous that the world still hasn't moved on with the whole racism thing. People are people.

Second, I absolutely LOVE the show Big Bang Theory! Howard and Sheldon are my favorite :)

  • What I'm sick of is everyone having to be so politically correct. I'm white. They're black. What's so horrible about this? Why do people take offense when they are called black or white, rather than African American or Caucasian? I don't see why this would be insulting (by the way, I'm not referring to you. I can definitely see why you'd be annoyed with being called white, just as I'd be annoyed if I were called Chinese.)

When people are serious about the race bashing, it aggravates me (like around election time, I kept hearing "white people suck!") but when it's just a joke that isn't meant to hurt anyone, thatis where I think people are oversensitive.

  • couldn't have been written better

  • I'm one pale chica and I think I'm beautiful!

  • I personally am not offended by being called pasty and pale because I am, and I like it and would rather be myself as I naturally am than try to tan and be wrinkly and gross. I'm pale because I'm caucasian but there are others that aren't. But I do agree that saying only white people can be racist is ridiculous. People can call me cracker, whitey, honkey, and other derogatory names and have a laugh, but if I even say anything about another race or use their "words" then I'm automatically racist? I was in History class one day and we were talking about Native American slavery, and my friend who is Native American tells me "Yeah! You guys owe me now!" it's so ignorant.

  • Really I don't think it's fair to say caucasians are 'attacked' more than any other race. To say so, in itself, is racism. Racism doesn't HAVE to be hate comments towards one race or another. Any sort of differentiating between one race, or the next, is considered racism. "Black pride," "white pride," "asian pride," they're all forms of racism. "Their words," "our words," "cracker," "nigga," what have you. It's all just a part of it.

I think it's ridiculous that people pay so much attention to these kinds of things. By claiming one race is victimized more than another, you're not helping banish racism, you're aggravating it. There's no way to get RID of racism unless everyone, as a whole, brushes it off and ignores it. Don't mention it, don't joke about it... But, that's not gonna happen.

  • If the Caucasian race is associated with weakness and lack of charisma, how come they are the most represented ethnicity in television, film and magazines in the United States? In many ways the Caucasian race can mock themselves and still have fun because they are so widely represented in the media, behind and in front of the camera. For every weak Caucasian character, there are multiple strong Caucasian characters to counter any stereotyping. Most leading men and women in Hollywood are Caucasian.

I have friends who are Asian American who want to have lighter skin. To many in the Asian community, lighter skin is associated with a higher class. Is it any wonder why Asian women like to date Caucasian men?

  • Why do we all have to be put into groups? That's not fair. Just because some white dudes did some stupid crap hundreds of years ago doesn't mean I agree with it. Nor do I believe in it. Don't put me in with the "Caucasians" just because I'm white. It's INDIVIDUALS who do the stupid crap. Stop grouping innocent people with them..

    Racism's a b*tch

  • @ci_ci_o - Honestly? I have no idea what he expected me to say to that. I just kind of looked at him funny, then went back to listening to the teacher.

  • Well in Big Bang Theory he was making fun of his friend, who really is pale and pasty, not the entire Caucasian race.

People who say a certain race is more beautiful than another race does not mean that they hate or look down upon that other race. It just means that they haven't haven't fully opened their eyes to see the beauty in every race, every color, every person.

Yes, it makes me sad when people think Caucasians are seen as the race that is the most racist. Those people who think that are either oblivious to the world around them or are ignorant racists themselves.

  • oh my God, I wrote a few posts about this too. its really very annoying. God forbid I make a joke, because I'm being an "ignorant racist white girl" but people can hate on white people all they want.

UGH. I don't want to get started on this.

and I'm blonde-haired blue-eyed, I'm as white as they come!

  • sorry, i cant agree !

white people aren't as loud about their attacks but i sure do get things from only white people. i look completely white but as soon as i clear that up and tell a white person im Arab, I am either ridiculed for it or given the wide-eyed "OH" and whispered about.  I mean sure, white people may be victimized for always being racist, but saying that they are the most attacked and don't attack others is a bit much.

  • My husband (and most of the men in my family, for that matter) is the most-hated stereotype in America: a straight, white, Christian, conservative male. Seems like they're just about the only ones left whom it's perfectly acceptable to deride, degrade, hate and generally spew vitriol at and towards.

I hate how the PC culture has carved out certain segments of the population whom it's still okay to attack; to me, this is simply replacing one kind of bigotry for another.

  • Oh please.

Not many white people are ever racially bitch-slapped. Especially in the media. You're seeing things you want to see.

Other races and cultures have been discriminated against, as well as racially divided, and not by choice.

And racisim will exist, no matter what. As much as I hate it, it will.

And I'm sorry, but as much as ancestral whites been against other races, they kinda deserve the bash right now. It's no big deal--it's how the world works.

I think I can state as much, seeing as I'm mixed.

And if you're Chinese, why the hell are you all emotional about it anyway? You're not the white race. Also, pale is the color of death, not a normal olive or cream color.

  • White and pasty, I prefer creamy...  though I have freckles so maybe vanilla bean-- sounds a lot better.  As it were, I think everyone is beautiful, I believe we all came from the same original place-- therefore what is the deal with all this sibling rivalry.  Racism, is just the blown out form of revenge on others due to wars, past greivances, what have yous-- which if people have figured out were done by OTHER PEOPLE A LONG TIME AGO!!!  I can't account for my past descendants, I can't account for others that have said something against a different race, I can only account for me.  I, as well as you, think its very wrong that we get stuck in classified sections.  We are too skinny, we are too black, we are too white, we are too fat, we are too tall, we are too short-- we are who we are so stop!

As long as we are on the topic-- favortism.  I agree white people get picked on quite a bit.  Every race seems to have something they get picked on for, full blown bullying really.  I don't think it is right for anyone to show favortism to any group or lack there of to another.  We all have something, we are all not perfect-- but there is beauty in all as well.  I don't believe it is the look of a person but rather the soul that matters.  I could care less what race, hair style, fashion, eye color, whatever you have or are-- I care about whether you got class in your soul.

Thank you for the post, I agree it is wrong.  As an American living in a foreign country-- I often get classified as "the white American"-- uh oh, which generally means, if I don't respond to them fast enough in Japanese then I am no longer worthy to be chatted with (it's assumed I don't know Japanese)...  I am the laughing stock for older youth and the thing little kids run away from.  To adults here I am the exotic-- see really, it depends on where you are.  In the states I blend in, I'd probably blend in in Europe too... however, not here.  Sometimes ya feel like an animal at a zoo, they watch you, sometimes point and laugh, sometimes come up and admire you-- all the while chatting away thinking you don't know the language-- but ya know enough to realize most of what they are saying...  sigh.  O well.

  • It goes both ways. My white friends make jokes at me for being brown and mexican and I say white jokes back at them.
It may not be right, but it's just playing around.

  • Well I would have to partially disagree with you (big surprise huh?). In both statements mentioned, frail and pasty could surely be hidden ways of implying "whites"but in the last conversation you quoted, the conversation was held between two whites. Even many whites would define "pasty" in its literal sense to be a somewhat negative trait. I would also be willing to bet that a large majority of the writers of the show are white, but that we can not know for certain. At best, the image of white portrayed as weak and uncharismatic is not in any way comparable to the image of whites being not easy to stereotype, powerful and the object of affection of any race.

Do you want to know why there would sooner be, as you say an "outrage" if somewhat racist comments were made towards blacks over whites? It is because of history. You can in no way, deny that the majority and average of power and money holders in this country are white. I wont deny that racial comments towards whites are hurtful, but we have been given example after example of why those comments hold little water. Dare someone say that cracker holds the same history and impact of nigger. I would assume that few would agree, although I could always be wrong.

Since to some slight extent this has been made into a white/black thing (just based on those commented upon in your post), I might also go as far to say that a black person nit picking code words might face a lot of backlash for being "too sensitive". Either way, I understand what you're saying and your heart is in the right place but I think there are some details missing from the big picture here.

  • I can NOT stand any kind of racism. It sickens me. I understand why white folks are targeted more often than everyone else, but that doesn't make it right.

@IfonEarth - It was an odd remark. He was probably just trying to be funny and didn't realize he'd just  failed.  :o )

  • I agree that if you insult someone black, they'd react so dramatically and angry when a lot times, they tend to insult others on blast.

    Racism is so sad.

  • @imperfect_smash - I don't think anyone deserves any stupid "bashing" that you are promoting. Bashing is ignorant criticism and no race as a whole deserves that. Hey, I'm not saying I am proud of every person in my race, but it's completely ridiculous to think an entire race deserves ridicule.

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - Haha. You're probably right. I'm just not sure what the right response would have been. :]

  • @BlackAnomaly9 - I come from a largely southern family and they find' cracker' to be infinitely offensive because it loosely translates to 'poor white trash'. Granted, it doesn't carry the same level of stigma as the term 'ni**er (I'm sorry, I just hate that word and refuse to even type it), but in certain areas of the south 'cracker' is a fighting word.

From the irish side we learned the distinction between 'pig shit irish' and 'lace curtain irish' also, and the first terms could be just as insulting as 'cracker' if we let it be.

It doesn't matter who we are, there will always be some slur directed at us.

  • @IfonEarth - I'm sure whatever response you gave was the right one, if there is such a thing (lol). No response would have been a winner too. :o )

  • @MakinzyKrysteen - I loved what you had to say. I totally agree with you!

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - *grins* I just stared at him funny for a moment, then went back to what I was doing (listening to the lecture).

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - I agree completely. I dont wish to extinguish the potency of such words. My point was merely to draw a comparison and make a point. None of these words are good words. Though an interesting discovery i made some years ago (which may or may not be true), was that the origin of the slur cracker came from the act of the whip bearer cracking a whip during slavery. Whether it was developed in that era or not, im not sure.

  • i dont know what to say...
we all battle our own....you know...

  • Frankly, i think everone's just all too sensitive these days.

  • @BlackAnomaly9 - I completely understood. I just don't get why people have to be like that with each other. Beneath the skin we all look identical. We all have the same organs, muscles, reactions to joy and pain.

It makes no sense to hate each other based on something as trivial as the outside colors were were born with.

  •

Ignorance. What can I say, it isn’t right no matter who says the derogatory terms.  In reality some cultures actually see being “pale” as beautiful and held in high regard. Ever noticed how some Asian cultures (Filipino and some Japanese or Chinese – I’m not entirely sure which to be exact) actually have skin whitener because the lighter skin you are the more respect you receive I guess.

And oh, I think you misinterpreted that scene about physicist being pale (I don’t know that show so Imay be wrong). They probably meant that any type of person who works indoors all day,  computer analyst, medical doctors etc… just don’t go outside in the sun as much as a regular person does so they of course are ‘paler’ than someone who works outdoors like a lifeguard who gets darker from the sun.  Misconception yes but it happens so I try not to take it too seriously.

  • I'm over being mad about racism.
If people don't compare people by their races, they'll find something else.
Being too big, being too small...
    Having whiter teeth, longer hair...
    People are douches.

  • @Papillon_Mom - That's just because you're WHITE WHITE WHITE!

Just kidding. You know I love you.

  • "Yet if anyone made such a statement towards the black community, can we say outrage?" Thats a general statement that really hits me in the wrong spot but youre entitled to yours.

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks -   LOL!!!

  • Well, these sorts of thoughts are often promulgated throughout white/hick culture and when I see someone saying that it's not fair that they don't get a scholarship for their race, I say this. White (generally Western European) people have committed most of the atrocities thoughout history. Anyway, some backlash against white people is pretty reasonable, especially from races who have been oppressed, historically. I'm not offended, and I think I'm around 90% German.

  • And besides, I think when people stop talking about race at all and it isn't on job applications and we all intermarry racism itself will eventually stamp itself out.

  • @jesusmoshes2 -

Good points.  Not to mention that a very SMALL percentage of whites had even one slave, let alone a plantation full.  And never mind that a lot of blacks were sold into slavery by OTHER BLACKS in Africa.  But I guess everything is still my fault because I'm white.  Even if my ancestors owned slaves (which they didn't), I am not going to mope around and make apologies for something I had nothing to do with.  I will understand its wrong, but I will not make apologies for the sins of someone who lived years and years before I was ever even though of.

    So yeah.

  • I love that show. Never really thought about the racism in any kind of way but now that you mention it, the indian does always specify that he is cooler due to his ethnicity. I do believe that whites are portrayed as "racists" which leaves room for everyone else to bash them, thinking it's justified. It never is. I think racism stems from both sides. Or all 10 sides :p

  • Big Bang Theory is my favorite show.  =]

  • All Asians look the same deal....way over that topic.  Seriously.  People need to realise that I do not look like my neighbor over yonder just because we're from the same continent.

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - Too true. I think these days, however, people are really just opposed to the other culturally and using their skin as a perceived indicator of what their culture is. Perhaps, it has been that way for a long time and it is silly to use something so trivial, as you put it, as a monitoring stick to gauge who that person is.

  • I love being frail and pasty. ^_^

  • so by this...nothing in the world would be funny....race and discrimination are only a problem if we continuously take ourselves seriously...thats why dave chappelle is funny

  • okay first, i need to say..,

i LOVE the big bang theory and sheldon is a beautiful man. haha
i'm going to be so bold as to say that EVERYONE, yes EVERYONE is wayyyyyy to sensitive about racism. really.. people need to relax and just live life. not every little comment made is an attempt to offend someone. in fact, think of all the comedians who would NOT be popular if not for jokes about races. chris rock, katt williams, carlos mencia, even jim gaffigan makes jokes about white people. seriously folks, calm the f**k down.it's comedylaugh it offlive your life
    (:

  • White people are not pale... They are have lighter skins compared other races.

Race problems are still so sensitive nowadays that a lot of people avoid commenting on it...

I am Asian and personally I think racism is..well, common. I take it as everyday life. I take it with a shrug and a "Whatever, they're just jealous!" You can't stop them and their thinking, after all, it's a human's right. Only, you just can't let them know they've affected you. After all, it's only them and their little rantings about people not the same as them. Their racist comments only prove they are self-centered and pigheaded.

Right? Right? But sometimes I still do care, and I really want to punch their lights out when they remark snidely on Asians and sometimes, their dialects! Well, I have no problem with dialects but it's so sad to see someone making fun of my own race....

Racism is an ongoing problem. No one can ever solve it. Just live with it.

  • I agree, there's been a lot of that in commercials ( the white person will be the dumb one), t.v., movies etc... like its taboo to talk about any other race but "cracker" and other racial slurs towards whites are dumb down to make it "innocent", but if you whisper a racial slur towards another race it causes controversy.

but regardless, any type of racism should be avoided. its 2009, when are people gonna grow up

  • and that all Asians look alike... most people dont even know i'm Asian LMAO

  • I don't find the words Pale or Pasty offensive. But then again, I'm a half &half.
I think the example used in The Big Bang Theory is not a big deal... It's supposed to be a joke. And I think most people would have taken it that way, but if you take every little thing literally to heart than I suppose...
I'd say you should become less sensitive. If you think these sort of jokes are serious racism, then...wow. I can't even complete my sentences right now.

  • @slashteddy - differentiating between one race and another isn't racism. and posing the question she posed wasn't racist....that's just stupid. we don't live in a colorless world.

and ignoring racism is the WORST way to try to get rid of it. ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away.

  • @imperfect_smash - that's a totally stupid comment. white people are constantly made fun of, though i wouldn't say more than any other race for sure. but we don't deserve the hatred b/c of other white people int he past. sorry asshole, i'm white, my family's from italy, we didn't get here until the 30's i had nothing to do with it. and someone who's great-great-great-grandfather or whatever who owned a plantation doesn't deserve it either. it's not their fault that their ancestor was a piece of shit.

what an ignorant thing to say.

  • I HATE when white people become all defense about pasty cracker jokes, because they all melt into a soup of pity and Aryan back-patting. The most offended are the worst offenders.

"why are white people made fun of for our looks? how is that right?"

    "i know! i think we're the prettiest!"

    *vomit*

  • I can almost pass as any race.  Lol.  People can never tell.  I get people who ask me if I'm from places that in my mind I don't really resemble in any way.  It's funny.  I like being a mutt and making people think.  We should all blend in and make beautiful babies.  Keke.  I'm pale and pretty.  XD

  • As a black woman, I've experienced racism and seen it done to others. No matter who is doing it, it's wrong and stupid.  Unless you're closely related, a group of people doesn't look all the same to me. The girl who told you that was just showing how ignorant she is. I wouldn't considering calling someone pale a racist remark, though. Some people are just pale! Nothing wrong with that.

  • "Apparently, she is blind because according to her, all Asians look the same.  Yet if anyone made such a statement towards the black community, can we say outrage?"

Stop blaming what a select few do on a whole race. THATS REAL IGNORANCE.

  • @Charity_the_So_Called_Artist - so how many black people have you meant that assumed someone ws racist for not voting for obama.

  • There are all kinds and shades of racists, and NONE of them should exist because racism SUCKS.

Can't we all just get along???

  • Well, this is a brand new perspective to me!

  • @bodyheartmindsoul - So? My family is multiracial and we speak four languages. I really don't care about your family history; -- it was just a stupid comment poking fun at sarcasm. Get over it.

Some people are over sensitive over nothing. And yeah, I think some white people are very sensitive. It's just my opinion, ignorance not included : )

  • @imperfect_smash - sure white people are sensitive but so is everyone. it's not about race, it's about the individual. i just hate that bullshit comment, people say that all the time, and even if you were kidding (...) a lot of people aren't. and congratulations that you're multi-racial? what's your point.

  • There aren't many white people around my parts.  Most racism I see and experience can be called colorism, or interracism or whatever people are calling it now.  But I think it's stupid to blame an entire race for anything or worse, put all of the bad things on the past onto one person.  It's not fair to strip a person of their individuality.  There is no excuses for it.

  • Racism = bad in general >:O !

  • I don't think I will dare to joke like that in a real life situation.

  • @bodyheartmindsoul - Making racist remarks.

  • I've been thinking about posting about this for a while. I agree with you.

  • but asian people are the prettiest :)

  • That fits along with my thoughts... never understood why racist comments against Caucasian was reverse racism. ???? racism is racism doesn't matter what color is the target IMO ...thanks for stating some simple and mainly taboo truths

  • @Murazrai - but did you mean her post was racist? or saying stuff against white people is racist? if it's the latter, how is it another form? isn't racism racism?

  • uhh i don't know about the racist remarks against whites, since i've probably never heard of that in my life besides in comedy shows, where they make fun of every race basically. but i know that nonwhites  get discriminated against a lot.

  • Us caucasians have to be the minority these days, or we are called racist.

    Which blows.

  • @bodyheartmindsoul - It is saying stuff against white people. Most racism rose from hatred and anger, but in this case, what I see is rather sort of self-experience or maybe humor.

  • I think it's interesting that many Eastern countries (Africa, Middle East, and onward) have a concept of paleness as beauty. There are products made to make your skin look as pale as possible in many countries.

In Europe and the US, however, having a tan is considered beautiful (How many tanning lotions and products are there in an average superstore?). I don't think that Big Bang Theory was being racist, just pointing out that many American women aren't attracted to guys when you can see all their veins through translucent skin.

It's a standard of beauty, not a racist remark against white people. I'm white and I feel perfectly beautiful. Sure, I tease about myself being excessively pale, but it truly doesn't bother me.

  • That's just the way it is. I've had many teachers make fun of Jews in class, and they've never gotten into trouble for their comments. Another teacher questioned Islamic religious practices against women in an e-mail to another teacher and was fired. There is a PSA about how it's wrong to make fun of people who are homosexual, but everyone can crack a joke about fat people and no one ever says, "That's enough."

  • What a stupid entry.

  • No, not really.  Its just the nature of some people to demean others in an effort to make themselves feel more important.

  • Wow we're finally getting a taste of our own medicine!

  • Yes trying being a white person living in South Afrfica.  I am so over it.

  • I'm white, and I don't care.  Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves no matetr what race, colour or creed!

And anyway, to quote the musical Avenue Q "Everyones a little bit racist sometimes"

    xxx

  • nope it's actually a fair world

  • I agree that racism goes both ways and that Caucasians get blamed for a lot of racism today.  It has been proven through studies that minorities are more racist towards other minorities than a majority to a minority. This is especially so in areas of poverty and/or uneducated peoples.  (So generally speaking, where i live African-American and Hispanic people are more likely to act racist towards one another than Caucasian people are to act racist towards either of these minorities) I am a white female living deep in the bible belt.  I have met a few racist white people but for every one of those i've met at least three black/asain/hispanic racist.  I think people who don't understand or lack tolerance of another's culture can become racist, regardless of race.  It is human nature to place yourself higher than others, to prove your worth by lowering others. I don't think any particular race is free from being condemned or condeming.  With all this being said, i watch Big Bang Theory because its hilarious and i can relate to it.  It is after all a comedy show.  Comedy is all about pointing out sterotypes and exploiting them.  Racism shouldn't be tolerated but in some cases, i don't think it should be taken too seriously.  I think getting upset over every racial slur gives it too much power.  Good post, very interesting =)

  • Racism isn't good. Ever.

  • i dont think whites are "attacked" the most .. but i do think whites are more subjected to be politically correct. We have to watch out mouths while other people can make songs like 'president' by jeezy talking about "white lies" & hes "half white, so hes half right".

i dont let it get under my skin..

  • I agree with this. And to go against what some other people said--just because most racism against Caucasians is less violent and doesn't have a brutal history behind it, doesn't make it right! Quite frankly I'm tired of being blamed for crap my ancestors did, not me. Racism is racism, no matter what color your skin is. The double-standard that 'white people should be able to take it' and 'it's not racist if it's against white people, they all deserve it' is a load of bulls***. If you're lumping one group together whose skin is different than yours, and treating them negatively--even if they're *gasp* white--you're a racist.

  • i'm white. i'm pale even for being white. i don't go tanning. WHY should i?

THIS is the color of my skin! i'm not going to risk aging and cancer to "look better"

my health is more important to me than what some ELSE deems as "beautiful"

i was sitting down once in the summer with shorts on, a friend of mine
(darker racial background) sat down next to me, looked at my legs in
pretty much horror and disgust... and exclaimed "omg! tan that shit!
it's like sitting next to a corps!"

people are ALWAYS telling me that i'm too pale and i should get a tan or anything like this...

this is a double standard as you would never tell someone of a dark complection "you're too dark! get a bleach treatment!"

(of course i would never say this, just using it as an example)

kind of makes you think how it seems ok to say something to one race
but you can't say the equivalent to another with out being preceived as
    racist.

  • I totally agree with you....

  • 1:  I LOVE THAT SHOW.

    "Reader, are you
disturbed by the fact that Caucasians are constantly victimized as the
defaulted racist offenders, even while they are attacked the most?"

As a white girl, I have to say this is absolutely true, and I am disturbed.  White men OFTEN won't look at me because I am a white girl.  EVERYONE always faults us for even LAUGHING at a joke someone of colour makes.  I'm pretty sick of being the only offender, EVER.

I'm sick of being called pasty and "need to get a tan" when I physically can't get a f*cking tan!  I BURN.  LEAVE ME ALONE.  Ugh.

  • ha, nope.  and sorry, but the "big bang theory" is probably not the best arena to judge racism. though, maybe try replacing "white" with "nerd."  yes, nerds do get made fun of, whether they're caucasian, asian or whatever. next time you think that white people get attacked the most, think of all the disney princesses and prince charmings.  oh, and how about all the other caucasian stars on TV these days?

  • Hi DearRicky,  I am also a big fan of The Big Bang Theory and agree with you regarding racist comments being swept under the rug repeatedly by the media.  While such comments can be entertaining within the context of a show or scene, they are not funny and add to the mentality of one ethnicity is better than another.  I do not understand the mind set of people who say things like "all asians look alike" and I do think that if such a comment was made about blacks or whites, there would be physical confrontation.  Meanwhile, we're suppose to let it all roll off our backs caz supposedly when it's said about asians, it's funny but when it's said about blacks/ whites, it's offensive.  I think most people treat others equally but few think of others as equals and that is where racism is still lurking and popping up again and again through side comments or "jokes."

  • Yes I am bothered by it.
Personally I think they're just jealous, because before being "tan" became popular in the 60's (did I get the right era?), being fair-skinned was what people wanted most. But now everyone goes to tanning beds to get burnt. I think it's silly.

For the record, I've always thought Asian people were really lucky (being pretty, cool, and smart and all). So I don't know why people feel the need to bash us. Hm...insecurity I guess. :/

(Besides, tanning leads to cancer and bad, wrinkly skin in your old age. If you naturally have dark skin, then that's cool. Keep the natural colors and tones of your body.)

  • @Schristian - Not necessarily. I'm Mexican, but also pasty looking. XP

Also, wouldn't racial attacks constitute ad hominems? I see no science in that. Mythbusters ftw!

  • While you may have a valid (though beleagured) point about reverse racism, you seem to have missed the humor of these lines in the show.  The "geeks" in question are referred to as pale or pasty because they spend all their time indoors, not because they are white.

  • Racism sucks :biter:

  • maybe it's because I'm looking at this from a black perspective that I don't agree.

Yes, white people are made fun of... but so are chinese, blacks, indians, etc.

Do I think there are racists whites? Yes. There are also racist Indians, Chinese, Blacks etc.

To think that your race is being bashed more than others is silly..and maybe a little self-centered You can easily find a show where they make fun of some other race. I have felt racism, not only from other races, but from my own race as well, I have asian friends that have been victimized to ignorant rants from others. I have white friends that has has to bite their tongues while someone says something foolish about their race. It's a sad fact of life. We have it everywhere. However, I think if you are going to be upset about jokes made in the media about white people, you should be upset about jokes made about other races too.

  • Yes, I'm sick of how other races can make fun of someone for being "white", but if a "white" person makes fun of another race then its instantly racism. It really irritates me. I am not racist. But there are too many peoploe who are. I see black comedians making fun of "white" people all the time, but not the other way around. For some reason it is socially acceptable for every other race to make fun of "white" people, but not the other way around. That confuses me as well as angers me. Its prejudice.

  • This is somewhat similar to another story I read a while ago. People say I look white all the time. I'm Hispanic yo.

  • @nimbusthedragon - I hate that people think "racism" is hatred or discrimination from whites towards blacks. That's not right. Racism is hatred and discrimination from anyone onto any group of people due to their race, you know?

    _____________________________________________________________________

I've encountered racism a LOT, as a younger white girl going to a school 50% white 50% black and a lot at college, now. I've just learned that racism, in any form, from any person is just wrong. There's no such thing as "reverse" racism, or any excuse for white people to hate black people or black people to hate white people.

My granddaddy was a poor, white man. He didn't own any slaves, we're from the North - I don't take kindly to black people blaming me for the pain that their great-great grandfathers and mothers had to endure, just like I don't discriminate against blacks, asians, hispanics or anyone else for any reason. It's just not acceptable to be racist. We need to accept people as people, as our fellow people, as someone we are related to, someone we can relate to.

Making remarks about white people being pasty is fine, I'm white and I'm not offended... but what would happen if we made remarks about nappy-headed people on a big network TV show? It's just not good either way. It's ok to make jokes, it's ok to realize that people look different - and sometimes it can be comical. It is not ok when the jokes aren't balanced or when being different means being bad or hated.

  • @MsButterworth311 - It's surprising that you just come right out and say that - because maybe YOU make jokes about blacks or asians or something, but I don't. I don't think that me, as a white person, owes any race anything other than a kindness that is owed to every human being on this Earth. I don't discriminate and I don't deserve a "dose of my own medicine," thank you very much.

  • @rushed_luck - I agree 100%, it's all prejudice.

  • I agree. A lot of people think that there is only racism torwards African American, that belief is completely false. Also, a lot of African Americans believe that since Caucasians did it to them for so long it is socially acceptable. That's also  not true. However, not EVERYONE believes this. I am African American and I know that there is racism torwards EVERYONE, and it is NEVER socially acceptable.. or morally acceptable to be racist, prejudice, etc. etc.

  • @Me - I'm sorry, I keep commenting on everyone.. but everyone is saying "REVERSE RACISM," when there is no such thing. Dude, it's just racism - flat out - one race hating another. Part of the problem is that white people got labeled as the first racists, atleast in the US, and for the right reasons I think, but that seems to make everyone think that racism is somehow different if it's coming from a minority. It's not. It's ALL prejudice, it's ALL racism.

  • it just makes me sad, because honestly, people are beautiful no matter what color they are. I'm proud of my fair skin, I work hard to take care of it with loads of spf and what not. But I can say I'm envious of people who have any form of darker skin that can wear pastels and yellow. Every race has what makes them beautiful and I just wish more people could appreciate it.

  • Racism has being goin for a long time and no matter how much we try to remove it there will always be racist people and you can find them anywhere (in the bus, supermarket, home, school, work & ect). All we can do is try.  If a comment was not intented to be racist then the person should be offended or take serious action but if it was really bad explaing to the person. You cannot complain about an entire race ( or country, species o anything for that matter) because everyone is different just because the majority of what you know about a race or country was that they are racist, doesn't mean they all are so you cannot assume some is racist just because the are white, black and/or the other races. Even in families it is the same I am not like my mum, dad or brothers because we have gone throught different things I may of collected some there personality and habits but I will never be exactly like them.

  • Actually yes. Granted in US history there have been some rather ugly things that happened but that was, and let's say it together, in the past. That being said, I'm tired of racism in all its forms. Las Vegas recently opened up a Hispanic Arts Center. Uhm... so if I go and open the White Girl Arts Center let's see how much hate mail I'd get then! It's STILL racist. Why can't we open a Cultural Arts Center without ascribing a race to it??? Thanks for standing up - much respect!

  • It does annoy me that people are allowed to insult white people all they want, but GOD FORBID any other race is insulted... ¬_¬

  • If I respond to this, it's not racist. But finally someone responds to this problem.  I'm a White Mexican, granted, only a 1/4. I experience white discrimination DAILY. White people cant dance. Bullcrap. White people cant jump. Again, bullcrap. If we had a White History Month or a special scholarship to whites for college, it would be racist. Why can't we be special too? We were not here first. Mistakes in the past do not rule the future. I was discrimated and still am discriminated by my own race, Mexican. I am also discriminated against by even white people. It pisses me off to know that people think of White as a disease, or an ailment. I love being white. I may not look exotic because I have no dark pigment (besides my freckles), but I'm still freaking awesome (and humble... xD) I'm white enough to be a vampire, and it just makes me so upset to know that the lighter I am, people see me as the dumber, more whoreish, and less fashionable White Girl. Oh, and because I'm white, I'm Republican, Christian, cant dance, am a plain jane, and cant do much else. So I may be Republican and CHristian, which have its OWN stereotypes, but plain jane? Please. People look different, even the "exotic" ones. No one looks the same, except for identicals.  I am WHITE and friggin proud of it. It just bugs me how much crap we white people receive for being "colorless"

  • I said before in another post about something similar here on Xanga that I feel like white/caucasian people are more subjected to racism nowadays than black or asian people.

Take the presidential elections, for example. Everyone blasted John McCain for being "just another old, white president."

What is wrong with a white president? Does it even matter than he's Caucasian? As a society, we preach so much on accepting people of all races, but then when something the like the presidential elections come about and it's all "First BLACK president" and "no more WHITE presidents". Firstly, President Obama is half African half Caucasian.

    Kristine

  • Great Show!
    They make fun of everyone...
and if comedians that make MUCH more racist remarks can have their own show these guys should have 2!

  • so anyway... umm...

    LIKE,all people are racist?
some are just more intense and extreme than the others regarding this issue.
if not racist, people still judge others by their appearances. You think like the world is perfect.

I saw some huge black lady sitting on the train. A white lady stood near her and she looked at the black lady for a sec. then BAM. The black lady was like " WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT. ARE YOU LOOKING DOWN ON ME BECAUSE I AM BLACK?"
    and everyone heard her yelling.
the white lady just stared and got off at the next station.

now,the black woman is a racist, and the white lady is going to be a racist (at least against this black lady), and everyone on the train is a racist at that moment in time.
obviously, the black lady was loud and crazy. but when the white lady share her story to her friends, her friends might generalize the situation.
hence,"black women are crazy" would be what they are thinking.
but yeah, people are stupid to make themselves look bad while representing their heritage.
and in terms of tv shows, they are tv shows... they ALWAYS make jokes like that.
    GAWWD.
grow out of this race issue already. watch The Office, you will LOVE it.

  • Not really. I mean racism is wrong period no matter what. I think white people just take it to heart more.

Also I guess some people think it's kind of okay to make fun of white people because they feel like whites owe them.. like they have a debt to pay for all those years that minorities were discriminated against. So they're kind of think "well whatever just take it because you owe us anyway". Which is messed up. But.. that's how it is. That's not how I am but that's how some people are. Which sucks. I wish we could just change the world like that but we can't. Takes time. If people didn't have so much pride then maybe we'd see changes.

  • @yogaforbrunch -  A man named Mr. Bill and his wife, friends of my dad. They can't talk politics anymore because they risk ruining their friendship over it. People on the internet. Myspace. Is that enough?

  • You're kidding me right?  White people being the victims of racist abuse? I don't even think there's a racist word for "white people" other than "white people". lol.

And whats wrong with being pale and pasty? I like white girls.

  • yeah i am disturbed that white people are always considered racial offenders when they are constantly being attacked.
i think that minorities find it right to attack white people after being attacked in the past
    i think its wrong.
if you don't want it done to you, don't do it to other people.
however, i know a lot of black people who think lighter is better.

  • @jb132 - actually there is a racist word for white people. its "cracker".

  • I agree completely and I think it occurs with obviously all races and any form of racism is horrible and unfair.

  • Disturbed no, annoyed yes but thats because racism exists within every culture and is directed at people of every skin tone. Those who encounter it daily in severe enough form often become racist themselves and the cycle continues. But I think a lot of people mean no harm and they joke about it as a way to start an otherwise awkward conversation of what is and is not acceptable...and what do you know here we all are having a conversation about it.

As for that all asians look alike nonsense forget that moron. I've been hearing "all (whatever race that person isn't) look alike" my entire life and I just feel bad for people who say it.

  • yesssssssssssssss

  • White people racist haha well ok everyone can be racist but I feel esp. blacks can be really racist. esp. towards each other. We never unite and we can be really racist towards each other quote on quote "Why do you sound white?" *This statement mostly comes from black people. It's sad that there's so much black on black racism it's even sickening where's the unity!

  • White people have never been the general target for racial remarks. I've been to almost every country in the world, and I can say that the one country where racism is at its prime is none other than America. And since America is predominantly white, you cannot possibly conclude that Caucasians receive the most racism.

Perhaps the two derogatory statements that you heard, could have been prevented if the American media had not come out with thousands of shows, movies, songs, etc that portrayed other ethnicities in a lesser light.

  • I'd say this is not true.  There are images of beautiful white people everywhere.  Most shows on television feature all white cast with a "token" minority.  When I was younger I was surrounded by white images.  Even today when I look at the magazine stands hardly any mainstream magazines feature African Americans on the cover.  I don't see it as a persistant problem.

@PookieFlirtsAgain - Definitely agree.  Blacks are incredibly racist towards each other.

      @Agent_Spanky - I've never noticed this either.

  • I'm a white female from Mississippi.  We've had friends refuse to visit us here because they think we all put on white robes every night and set fire to the countryside.

  • they are victimized the most? hah. wow.

  • @jacksoncroons - perhaps another crack at white people. they have small p...

    ...ieces of chalk.

meh as a white person i don't give a shit what somebody says as long as it is meant as a joke and is light-hearted.  seems we're all pretty sensitive nowadays.

if somebody didn't mean harm by the comment, don't get hurt.

  • this is so true!!! im so glad that you have this idea!!

  • The main difference is that racism has been used by whites in the U.S to keep people they considered not white out of positions of power. Since I don't know of any examples where racism has been used to keep whites out of power, I'd say a joke about someone being pasty isn't really so bad. Obviously we want to put an end to the ignorance that fuels racism, but I don't think attacking a television show for having a character make a joke about a person being pasty is the best way to go about it. Especially when that character described themselves as exotic, which seems significantly more racist.

  • If only there was some sort of group you could join, to affirm your white heritage.

  • Racism = fail.

I got in an argument with a girl (from somewhere in central america, I don't remember where precisely) who totally went off on me for calling her racist after making RACIST remarks about 'white people', in which she called -me- racist for calling her racist! I mean, seriously; what?

I don't agree that white people are 'attacked the most', but I -am- disturbed by how 'acceptable' it is to bash caucasians.

  • Thank you, I appreciate this.

  • Sadly, everyone gets racially attacked. As much as we try to prevent this from happening, as too many jokes come from it. HAHA... no, it's unfortunately a part of human nature to judge and categorize, and hence discriminate.

  • I saw some comment about how it's only fair that white people get treated like this because of "the horrible things white people did in the past". What kind of backwards logic is that? First off, I'm white and all of my ancestors were in Eastern Europe at the time. Not America, not England, ect.. And second of all, why should people be held accountable for things they DID NOT DO? Fucking bullshit.  You know, Irish people were treated like shit when they came to this country too, but does anyone have anything to say about that? Of course not.

And I like how only white people did bad things in the past. What about the Huns? The Moors? Read a textbook. Idiots.

  • This has bothered me for a long time. I'm glad you wrote about it. It's good to know I'm not alone in my thoughts.

  • As a caucasion woman, I totally feel the racism against me.  People have told me (in public) that I need to go tanning because I look unhealthy.  I'm sorry--I've been in a tanning bed before, and I don't see the obsession.  They're uncomfortable, make you sweat, and god knows how many people have been in that bed before you.  It's bad enough that I get uber tan in the summer because I'm a lifeguard.  I've also been told that I look prettier when I have a tan.  Well who the f - - - are you to tell me how beautful I am or not because I can't control my complection?

And as to the (certain) black people who have the audacity to say that all white people (including chinese apparently) hate black people, then guess who the eff is the racist?  The black person.  Just saying.

  • DearR, this was a nice, interesting & personal post.. I think all of us, in all racial groups, at some point or another are targetted for ridicule & (at worse) intimidation & harrasment.. I mean, this instance was relatively harmless comedy, BUT the problem with mainstream tv & media (in my opinion) is that it is overwhelmingly populated with White Liberals, who for whatever reason are constantly obssessed with beating up their own ethnic identity or wringing their hands with White Guilt, so this kinda comedy & commentary flourishes, while these same writers are fearful of criticizing & ridiculing non-White folks ?        anyways, peace.

  • @terracookie - Omg, I know!  Have you any idea how difficult it is for a white person of Irish and German decent to get a scholarship in this country?  It's ridiculous that just because we don't have enough color in our past we don't get money from the government to go to school.  I'm sorry, but just because I'm white doesn't mean I have enough cash to shell out on college without a bit of help.

  • whatever anything~
white and black still a ppl''
    but i still reckon that racism = fail~ _/

  • I get this all the time, and it ticks me off to no end. I shouldn't have to pay for my ancestor's mistakes anymore than any other race should be gaining from their ancestors hardships. I wasn't personally responsible, I don't actively participate in it, and I sure as hell don't encourage it, so why should I be marked as a second class citizen just because someone else is more jaded than myself? Its stupid

  • @IfIWereAchilles - I can think of a HUGE example. Its called affirmative action. I'll give you an example. Two people go in for a job interview, one white and the other black. Both are equally qualified (same training, experience, etc.), but the interviewer has a better connection with the white person and thinks they will get along better with the rest of the employees based upon their personality. The interviewer goes to their boss and hands them the resumes and interview notes of each applicant. The interviewer's boss then looks over their employee demographics and realizes that they are not in compliance with their state's affirmative action codes, so they hire the black applicant instead of the white applicant. And don't even bother telling me it doesn't happen because I was the interviewer who had to call the white applicant and tell them they didn't get the job. Oh and the guy who got the job? Went on to embezzle millions of dollars from the company and put them out of business.

And I highly doubt you would be so glib about the racist remark if it had been a remark about someone of a darker skin tone.

  • i love big bang theory!! hahahaha

  • racism is racism. it doesn't matter whether which race the offender belongs. blacks can be racists. whites can be racists. anybody can be. although i don't think the caucasians are attacked the most. i think every race has had their fair share of attacks. as a technical support engr. in a call center, i get that myself a lot.. being a Filipina who constantly talk to people from different kinds of races on the phone.

  • This is why it's great to be a Cherokee native. No one can say a damn thing to me and I'm a neutral sort of off-brown color.

  • @LucyWrites - Yes! THANK YOU! I can't tell you how many times I have to fill out an application or questionnaire and it asks about my ethnicity, even for statistical purposes. I write, I PREFER NOT TO ANSWER. It shouldn't matter, ever ever ever. I understand why some affirmative action policies were established, but they just don't seem relevant anymore. And it's a conscious way of putting labels on people, on differentiating between them when there is no longer a reason. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist, I'm just saying let's put these labels out of our minds, because they're not helping anything.
And I'm sorry, but there are poor people from every ethnicity. It's a problem across the board, so I don't understand why some organizations will give college scholarships to you just because you're ethnicity "x" and can keep a 2.5 GPA.
Also, I don't think white people are really discriminated against. I mean, the Big Bang Theory? Come on. It' s supposed to be taken lightly. Think about the Simpsons, and how they portray the guy who runs the Kwik-E Mart. This also should be taken lightly.
But as far as actual hatred goes, that's just unacceptable.

  • Indeed. Racism sucks in any form, and it's a sure-fire way to piss a lot of people off.

  • @lizheartshakespeare - You can't use one example of a single person's actions as a basis against affirmative action because there are numerous accounts of white people taking advantage of their business. Maybe you haven't been paying attention to the economy for that last ten or twelve years.

I would argue affirmative action has done a lot more good than bad. And if they were equally qualified, the odds of that same white person getting a job with a different employer is high whereas he would've been guaranteed the job before because nobody but a white person would have been considered previously. Hopefully you see where your logic falls apart. Affirmative action isn't taking anyone's ability to get the job they want away, it's giving those who wanted it an opportunity they wouldn't have otherwise had due to institutionalized racism. That is why a comment about pastiness, on a television show that nobody is forcing me to watch, doesn't offend me.

  • i love that show!
but really, people make stererotypical jokes at me all the time and to be honest i dont care

  • I think that if you look far enough back in history, most races have been discriminated against at one point or another. Caucasian's get the racism finger pointed at them a lot more often than other races because they haven't been victimized on a large scale in recent history.
I wish instead of playing the blame game, everyone could work toward a more equal future. :[

  • Hi dear friend from the US,
Good Morning to you! I am from India.Quite well read too. There is NOTHING in skin color actually.Don't be too schizophrenic about it.Lots of fools get born on April 1 you know .Everytime someone calls you pasty skinned ,just tell them --Oh your BD must be April 1 !
Learn to be indifferent  to such ignorant comments.Relax!! Cheer Up!
The real diffrence is in tone only.Black people have Grade 6 we Indians 2 or 3 and light-skinned people 1 or 2!
    As elementary as  that!!
love sadaboy@xanga(Visit my blogsite also please!!)

  • dear ricky, get a tan. ;o3

  • It is sad to see racist black people and yes, I know there are racist white people too but it's not fair to a lot of us. Pretty sure my ancestors weren't here during slavery like a lot of black people like to bring up. My ancestors were over in Ireland and Italy. But no matter what, I think there will always be racism, though I've never looked at a person of another origin or race differently than I look at someone who's white.

  • @ElliottStrange - So basically you get good deals on colleges and have beautiful skin. Haha, lucky. I mean that in a nice way.

  • YOU CAN'T SAY THEY ARE ATTACKED THE MOST! I highly doubt that-maybe its just the shows you are watching. Reverse racism is still racism and is not acceptable.

  • @Pure_Magdala - Well, I can't confirm my heritage; which is to say that there is no documentation. Only knowledge within the family of our lineage. So I don't get free schooling.

  • @ElliottStrange - Well boo to that.

  • Racism sucks, end of story.

  • Wow, this blog reminds me of today. I was at the mall with my boyfriend, we were taking a look at a magazine full of women. (It was a mans magazine, like with women in their bra and panties modeling on each page.)  There were so many beautiful sexy colored women mostly black or latina, we happened to turn the page after seeing so many gorgeous women and happened to end up seeing a really pale white woman in purple undies. Let me just tell you, we were so turned off. It looked dead and unappealing.( Not to offend but this was what we felt.)

I can see why so many of them go and tan themselves.  I had a white friend of mines tell me she's embarrased of how whites, tan their skin to look more appealing and have some color.  I'm not racist but it just depends on your preference.  If you ask me, I'm happy I got color, beautiful and brown able to shine and sparkle in the sun without the need of bronzer or whatever you all use. =] My bf's Puerto Rican& Itallian, he's not dark nor a light brownish color, he's like beige and I love him the way he is.

So the author of this blog is Chinese. Not a surprise he wrote this blog. I've read before off xanga's very blogs people in Asia beleive pale skin and light features such as blue eyes and blond hair is superior.  You would think the author being asian would write something about himself and his race but he chose to defend whites....along with comments from an asian female saying she's marrying a white male. Also, asians are getting surgeries to get rid of their almond shaped eyes. Wow, lol well if you like it and damn there nearly "worship it" go ahead and do it. I just think it's kind of ridiculous to look at another race and consider it more beautiful than your very own.

I agree that everyones created beautiful in their own ways.  Everyone has their own preference, and "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.''  Just because someone doesn't appeal to you because of their features doesn't mean you should make remarks.  Yes, I admitted that I think pale skin isn't something I look at as "appealing" but you'll never catch me shouting out remarks or making fun of it.  Now that is racist and It's ignorant when people stoop that low in making others feel bad to make themselves feel good.

  • i couldn't agree more. white people are always being told they're "racist" even when they're not. but if someone calls a white person "cracker" or something, than everyone looks the other way.  why is it just white people that are racist?

and i never considered asian people to be "pale" or "pasty." i always thought those terms were used mostly for people of european descent.  i've always thought of asian people as more of a milky white, which i would kill for. i on the other hand, who is of european descent, am so white that i'm almost translucent.

  • lol this topic is nothing new. white ppl fear to be seen as racists the most, and also the easiest group to be labeled as racists due to history. russell peters made some jokes about this issue lol

  • I don't mind the TV show cause I think it's funny and meant to be a joke but I do mind personal attacks. One of my closet friends (thankfully not anymore) used to call my boyfriend white boy. She never addressed him by his name. She always called him white boy, in the most derogatory way. Ugh, that's what I hate.

  • It has long been a pet peeve. Racism should never be okay, even when it is against the supposed "majority"

  • Have you noticed that the burglars in all those home alarm commericals are ALWAYS white guys?

  • I have often been commented on for being white (in a negative way) and it angers me, because if I turned around and said that exact same thing to or about someone who is 'black' or 'asian' for example I would be called racist and a terrible person and people could threaten police or court involvement.
Yet I cant because I'm white and somehow its my fault.
Oh and on the topic of racism, I hate it when people get angry at others who don't speak english
"We're in Australia - learn to speak fricken english!"
ahhh correction, since we're in australia, shouldn't we all be learning the Indigenous language of Australia from the Aboriginals.
hmmph, theres my vent for the day.

  • yeah, that racist bullshit is just messed up - white people are of a beautiful race; i say so even though i'm not white.

  • oh how hard it must be to endure racism in the United States for the white people... how hard, and tragic...
let the minority have their ability to be racist, because in the end... white people still have the wealth and the power.

  • I'm ginger so i've got really pale skin but i think i'm recognised as one of the stronger girls in my year.  More so than some of the boys (oh yeahhh!)  And it's obviously a mixed-race school.

I think in the real world, with real and sensible people, they just don't think like that - you're judged on your own individual merits, not stereotypes.  You just don't think like this towards people you know - they're all unique.

It really doesn't matter but all races have their strong and weaker people - Arnold Schwarzenegger is white, i don't think i'd have called him weak and pasty in his prime days.  I think half of the population is currently in love either with Zac Efron or Robert Pattinson (sorry for any bad spellings, i'm just not interested in either!) so I doubt their primary descriptions would be white and pasty.  And there's always Brad Pitt...

I'm just trying to prove a point with the celebrity name-dropping.   It also proves that stereotypes are sometimes kind of necessary when you're talking about impersonal things.  Like celebrities. But race?  It's just inaccurate to do so.  As I've hopefully highlighted.

  • Well,...check this out,....I'm bi-racial,...and we are the REAL minority.  Not accepted in either race. I say,.."too black to be white,..and too white to black".  I think races should embrace their differences.  What kind of world would this be if we all had the same characteristics. This is my very first post.

  • I do agree that racism against white people is never taken seriously, and does get accepted in a way that racism say against a black person never would be. Though, I think the thing on the Inbetweeners is mainly because geeks are stereotypically pale and pasty, because of time spent indoors and in front of computer screens.

  • I think it's pretty stupid, but a lot of races are made fun of so I guess they had to find some way to make fun of white people.

I am white and I still dislike when people say all Asians look the same. I don't think they do at all. *rolls eyes*

Racism is lame but seeing as it's been going since the beginning of man I think, and it is still going on today, it will be a very long time for it to go away. There will always be those thick headed people who can't see people as individuals. There will be those people from each race making the stereotypes seem true. So I guess as individuals we will just have to not be racist.

  • It doesn;t matter what race you are.Racism is just wrong.

  • It's safe to attack white people as racists... just like it's safe to blow up Nazis in movies and no one will protest. We're not allowed to protest. Every other minority can, but we can't.

I hate being called racist just because I'm white. I'm NOT racist. My natural ivory skin is far more beautiful than some orange bottle tan gal. It pisses me off when I hear all this crap on TV... so I turn the TV off.

  • caucasians are definitely not attacked the most.
penny epitomizes beauty in this show, and she is white.
raj was joking about the stereotype that white people like
    "exotic" people.

  • white racism isnt realy noticed as much. Its doesnt offend me. its that twats who take white jokes seriously and make generalisations. Its no enough to piss me off it just makes me irritable.

  • @nattata - hahah your comment made me laugh.

  • I agree. If I say something about them, I'm racist, but if they say it, they're just stating an opinion. I hate that.

  • I agree with IfonEarth. I DO understand that so many Caucasians are hit with racist remarks about being pale, redneck, racists  towards blacks, etc. But I definetely don't think they're attacked the most. From the people that surround me, the stereo-type for white people is someone who is " overly-polite, awkward, smart, and friendly" while the black stereo-type is " loud, angry, jokes a lot, and ignorant ". Which one would you rather be called?
And I also agree with LucyWrites with the statement about picking on the big guy. African-Americans will act more paranoid because of all their insecurities about being the less powerful/dominant ones ! You might think " racism towards blacks is over! It's the past! " but really, it's not. I'm African (Eritrean and Ethiopian) yet I look like the Mystery Race. I've heard that I look mixed, honduran, middle-eastern, even a dark asian. Yet I've never heard ONE person say I look African or black. But I HAVE been with cousins/friends that are dark-skinned and seen them being hit with racism. So basically, I've experienced racism/prejudice towards me in several different ways. I haven't had that many experiences, because yes, racism HAS gotten a lot better and lowered. But it was still just 50 years ago that there was segregation and extreme racial violence! So you have to understand why so many African-Americans are paranoid about every white person on the street being racist. And why they insult them a lot. Insulting them makes them feel like maybe, they're not the inferior ones.
I do understand what you mean though. Especially about people saying others are so " pasty and white" and need to get a tan. I've heard A LOT of my friends talk about that [mostly because the majority of my friends are white, lol.]

  • They are going to make a remake of Red Dawn and the attackers will
be Chinese. Anyway the box office will decide if it is alright to
attack a certain group. If The Big Bang theory viewership drops that
would prove or disprove your point.

    What about white privilege?
Is it something you are saying it is OK? Or the decline of White
privilege is something to mourn? I don't mourn its weakening
base....and it is not racist to say that...to me.

  • It's the last frontier of ok-to-hate, if you believe what you hear in a constant barrage of media:

    1. whites ("You only achieved that position in your company because you are white!")
    2. men ("He's probably just a deadbeat dad")
    3. naturally thin people ("Are you anorexic?")
    4. Southerners ("Stupid Redneck!" - all Southerners are portrayed as ignorant, backward, and incestual.)

And if you are the unluckiest - a Southern, thin white male, God help you.  I'm not kidding.
    Just some observations.

  • It is pretty bad that "Only White People Are Racist." Which is completely untrue. Being racist towards white people is far more common these days. Yeah I'll admit that there is a lot of racism towards African Americans, Asians, Native Americans, Middle Easterners[?], etc. But... it's "wrong" if you're racist towards them, although it's perfectly fine to be racist against a white person?

  • truth be told, whites, or caucasians for the sake of politicaly correct people, are in America the largest ethnicity in most places.  the larger chance for an occurance the more you will see it.  if there are 2 white people to every other ethnicity (fake statistic what if situation) the odds of you seeing a racist white person is twice as much only because there are more of them. (i know stating the obvious) but in my opinion everyone has equal opportunity to be racist or hopefuly accepting of all races.  its their choice

  • Last year, I struck up a rather good friendship with a guy in my biology class who *GASP* supports white pride. True, he admitted to me that he used to be one of those racists who thought only white people were headed anywhere in life, and that all other races were inferior, but he eventually opened up his mind to the fact that it's stupid to think that way, but he was still proud to be white and proud of his heritage and where he comes from. Why should he feel ashamed for being who he is, just because of what his ancestors did, you know? Just so you know, he's not one of those deluded stormfront white pride psyhcos (they would never dream of considering adopting a child that isn't "pure white"... don't believe me? go look on the site for yourself. oh, but they're not racist... right. they think interacial people are abominations. that's not "white pride", that's "hate of all others different than you"). He's just proud to be white. Not ashamed. That's it.

That's like telling the Japanese to be ashamed to be Japanese because of Pearl Harbor, or Muslims to be ashamed to be Muslim because of 9/11. There are bad people in all racial, religious, political, and cultural groups. That's a given. It's people who are too imature/looking for a reason to hate that actually think that the evil ones represent the entire group. That's the same with white Americans as well. Do you think it was only black people who have ever fought for the civil rights of blacks? If you actually do... gtfo our internets and go to the nearest library, and learn some U.S. history.

  • I completely agree with how unfair this is.
Surely making a sweeping statement in any form is complete prejudice, let alone due to the colour of someone's skin.
If people actually want to make a difference, they should be colourBLIND as opposed to giving more/less rights to any race because they believe they are being treated unfairly?
    It worsens any existing division!

  • @IfIWereAchilles - Would you like more? I can give you more. A man is passed over for a promotion THREE TIMES to supervisor (a position of power, no less) even though he scored perfectly on the supervisor's exam all three times because of the color of his skin. The letter read, and I quote "while your skills and experience match what we need for the position, we have decided to promote another candidate because we need more diversity at the supervisory level. We will contact you when there is another position open." My dad was devastated. He'd spent thousands of dollars to get the degree they said he needed in order to become a supervisor and they never promoted him. They did that to another of his co-workers as well. You know what he did? Took an AK-47 to work and killed his supervisor and a another co-worker. He's currently awaiting execution, pending numerous appeals.

The scenario I presented in my last comment has happened dozens of times. Now not all of them have turned out bad. But I can't tell you how many times the individuals I hired have resigned and/or been fired. I'm not saying that people of color are incapable of doing the job. What I am saying is employers should not be forced to hire/promote someone on the basis of their skin color. You say white people have had the advantage for years, and this is altogether true. But how does FORCING an employer to hire someone based on their skin color create an advantage for those people? It doesn't. All it does is put them in a position that they may or may not be right for. All the while that company is spending literally thousands of dollars to train an employee that may or may not be the right fit for the job? Talk about wasteful spending.

Furthermore, how would you feel if you knew that the only reason you were hired for the job was because of your skin color, not because of your qualifications or experience? Yea, you have the job, but I wouldn't want to go to work everyday knowing that all my employer sees is the color of my skin and not my accomplishments or ability to do the job. That is a sad way to live. And to say that people of color need affirmative action in order to get hired is basically telling them that they can't do it based on their skills and experience. How much of a motivator is that? I would say not much.

And for the love of all things good in this world, you can't tell me they STILL need affirmative action. We have an African American president for peet's sake! If there is any time to get rid of it, it would be now. He is a shining example that people of color CAN rise above and become successful. He didn't gain public office through affirmative action. The people voted him in by CHOICE because they thought he was the best candidate for the job. While affirmative action may  have been useful when it was first implemented, it serves no useful purpose now.

  • I attack Caucasians the most, they are such an easy target. I have never seen the white race being attacked by the media. I see it happening to black people all over the place. Asians are just asian most of them cant help how they were raised, most of them have a strict cultural background.

  • Funny... I have NEVER experienced this.  In fact, most of what I've experienced has been just the opposite: women who have dark skin are considered not "beautiful" enough for guys of ANY race.

  • Caucasians are constantly victimized?  Tell it to the kids dying in Africa for Blood Diamonds that many MANY white people buy.  Tell it to the constant victims in police brutality.  Tell it to the Asian and Black people that are mis-portrayed as hip hop artists and kung-fu masters.

I think if I were white, and the most I had to worry about was being called ugly, I'd be pretty happy with myself.  At least I'm not picking out shiny rocks from ice cold river for 12 hours a day so that rich white people could show off their bling.

  • @Aniki1119 -

"Rich white people show of their bling"...hmm.  Didn't the word "bling" come from black people?  You know, the rich black rappers who wear "blood diamonds" large enough to eat dinner off of?
And how did the slaves get here?  Oh yeah.  They were sold to the slave traders by other African tribes, i.e., other black people.

I know whites are to blame for a lot of problems, but they are not alone in that blame.  Caucasians are victimized in the sense that they are no longer able to defend themselves against other ethnicities without turning into racists, and that is a load of bull. I think it racist of other groups to constantly use race as an excuse.  But, its always Whitey's fault, isn't it.

  • I dont care. I'm white and I'm fucking gorgeous.

  • and I have never noticed it, probably because comedy is comedy and we all need to stop being so serious now i think. Please.

  • @lizheartshakespeare - While I understand your frustration, I think an example a little farther removed from your family would be appropriate considering the personal stake you have in it. Also, you most likely have no idea how the other candidate scored. It is possible that his scores were equally as good. They might not have been, also, but in the end it was the employer's choice to add "diversity" and without knowing anything else about it, it seems perfectly within their rights to choose who they want so long as that person had the opportunity to apply.

Since affirmative action was removed from the college application process, far fewer people who are not white have been going to college, at least in California, since that's the only state's school system I've been exposed to. The reason for that drop is because of the neighborhood schools and the way they are funded, which inherently makes schools from low income areas weaker in performance. What happens is because these schools don't have the money for things like AP programs or IB, their college applicants get disregarded despite the individual student's intelligence primarily because of funding. Affirmative action helped to get many of these students into colleges that previously didn't consider them, and now, that is slipping away because of its removal.
I doubt I'll be able to change your mind on this issue and that's unfortunate, but I do hope that you consider how racism is still an institution in this country and that "race" although a social construct, is still a very real issue that needs to be addressed when it comes to equal opportunity.

  • @IfIWereAchilles - No, you really don't understand my frustration. I provided an example both from my personal life and one from my professional life, yet you pounce and focus on the personal example. Would it have been any different if it were a stranger? No. As for the guy who did get hired he scored lower than my dad did. And he was fired six months later after it was determined that he cheated on the exam and lied about his credentials.

And as for this BS your giving me about under-performing schools, I have to correct you. When I graduated HS in 2002 I attended one of the most under performing schools in the state of CA. We had limited AP classes so I went to the local community college to get a leg up on my competition. I got accepted to USC, UCLA, and Harvard. If kids from under performing schools want to get ahead in life then they need to take the initiative just like I did. Its not my fault they don't, and I sure as hell shouldn't have to pay for their lack of initiative. Instead of sitting on my dead ass, I got a job, paid for my own CC classes, and graduated top of my class ALL ON MY OWN.

Racism is always going to be an issue, and I'm not naive. All I'm saying is its not NEARLY as bad now as it was 20 years ago when affirmative action was instituted. And all it does is give people of color a crutch to lean on, giving them an unfair advantage in an already competitive work environment. They want equal rights and they want to be treated fairly then they need to get off their ass and work for it just like the rest of us. I shouldn't have to pay for my ancestor's mistakes anymore than you should, and its not fair that they have an advantage over me, based simply on the color of their skin. They want equality right? I'm all for them having EQUAL opportunities, but I can't change their circumstances. Its up to them to change that.

And you can't tell me they don't have the resources available. There are Cal Grants, BOG waivers, federal aid, and more private scholarships than I can remember. We have public transportation for cheap, and if they really need it, public housing. They have computers with internet access at school to apply for aid. The CC's, UC, and CSU systems have job placement offices on campus that connect students and alumni with potential employers to help cover the costs that scholarships and grants don't cover. The community colleges in and of themselves are a great asset. All you need to be admitted is a HS diploma or equivalent and be a resident of the state. You get a college education for far less than what you would pay at a private university. The unit price is currently $20, and that is if you don't get financial aid. All they have to do is apply. There are great counselors at the CC's that will even help them apply for financial aid and guide them through the process. But they have to take the initiative and ask for that help. Are they incapable of doing so? Answer me this one question. Are they incapable of getting on a bus, going to the local community college, and asking for help? If they are incapable of doing so then all the affirmative action in the world cannot help them.

  • I've read afew of these comments of what people have said and generally I agree with the general consensus of how white people feel they can't say anything because they maybe deemed racist. Now I have a chinese boyfriend and I've dated black, asian, white guys so I'm far from a racist, but the comments that offended me was that of a person named on here as 'Ebony Barbie', making a generalisation that all hot women are Latino/black and white women are not might be you and your boyfriends opinion, but not everybody shares that view. It's as if your trying to say white women are ugly, which as the media shows us everyday and if you walk down the street shows it aint true. You get ugly people in every race! Now I don't think any race is better or more beautiful than the other, but as a white girl myself we like to tan ourselves not because we're 'ashamed' of our whiteness, but to go for another different look, like black women do when they get a weave full of fake hair done to give them a different look, it's similiar thing. As you know women love changing their image, whether it be make-up, hair, etc. White women don't go round saying 'Oh black women have aload of Asian/Caucasion hair done so they can look more western'?! Thats just ridiculous. So you should realize white women don't go around tanning themselves because we want to be black and because we're white doesn't mean we don't have 'colour' as you call it! If anything we're more colourful, fair, olive, pale, pink, we have different hair and eye colours so to me you just sound like a woman bitching. You also completely contradict yourself as you say here, 'Just because someone doesn't appeal to you because of their features doesn't mean you should make remarks.' Well thats exactly what your doing and as a white woman i find that offensive. I tan in the sun, that doesn't mean I'm ashamed of my skin tone, just means exactly what I said, I tan when I'm in the sun!!!!! All I can say is white women mustn't be that bad, as most famous African/Americans ie Beyonce, Halle Berry, Tyra Banks, Lil Kym,etc have either had surgery to make their features look more western or wear make-up that makes them look white, so being white can't be a bad thing,ie it obviously appeals to a wider market else they wouldn't do it. Now if i sound offensive to anyone I' sorry, but i'm so sick of black women bitching about white women, we might have our tans and bronzers you can keep your weaves, I've got my own hair thanks!!!!! As you say 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. I like being white and having colour too, whether pale or bronzed and I'm sure alot of white women would agree with me!!!!

  • When I allow myself to think about it, yeah. Not just against caucasians, though.. But just in general. And it really urks me when people call me a racist simply because of MY color.. And not only that, but if I say something's negative about someone else and/or what they've done.. I get called racist if they're another color. My goodness. That urks me so badly. I'm like "It had NOTHING to do with what color God made them! It was about what they've done, not what color they are." It's like people can't see past the color thing. You know? :/

    *sigh*,

    ~*Akarui Mitsukai*~

  • As far as whites being treated like the inferior race, that's the defonition of racism. There is some kind of racism against every race and it's all stupid. The Bible says "God wishes that none would perish but that all would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus christ." That means that to God we're all equle.

  • Not down with racism. However, it don't hurt my feelings none. I'm was remarking just last night my amazement that there's always someone even whiter than me. They ugly, too.

  • @Zeke777G - Another good point.

  • I don't care.  They have a lil' bit of time to make up for.  I'm very weird and white, so I always get special attention. //shrugs

  • @xFlyMyPrettiesx - Ditto. I think that applies to all races. Stupidity knows know racial boundaries, lol.

  • Oh, Ricky. Always causing a stir... I love it!

I've never really thought about it this way, but I do agree with you! I go to a college where I am in the minority, the majority being Asian and Black. I had a black woman call me pasty once... it was my first encounter with someone being racist towards me and it left me hurt and confused. I'm not racist myself, but I never really thought it could go both ways.... at least not to me.

I'm subscribing to the "all racism is wrong" idea and am patiently waiting for the rest of the human race to join me.

    Wonderful post as always!

  • clearly, you are an idiot.

  • @Rissa - so you really genuinely believe that white people are the most common victims of racist attacks? give me a break.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - I feel like racism towards Black, Asians, and others are more blatant and easy to spot, but white racism is more commonly accepted and not really seen as racist. You may disagree, but I have the right to my opinion.

  • @Rissa - my initial comment was aimed at the composer of the entry.

frankly, i find it terrifying that any white person can actually convince themselves that they are 'sufferers' of racism. a few anecdotes here and there prove nothing except that some people are irrational and prejudiced. if this kind of behaviour were truly widespread, and not isolated to tiny incidents, then fair enough. but it absolutely is not. white hegemony remains. also, if you're offended by being called 'pasty', and if you think that being called 'pasty' is racist, maybe you need to be a lot less sensitive, rather than blaming other people. if the woman called you a cracker-ass albino whore, then maybe you could get offended by that.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - It is widespread. Each tiny incident adds to it. It's prevalent in the media. Almost any foreign character is ripping on the pasty white guy. I'm not saying that I am more oppressed than anyone else, I'm just saying that most people don't acknowledge white oppression because it seems harmless. It may not be as harmful as other forms of oppression, but it exists nonetheless.

And yes, pasty is a negative skin reference. If I were to call an Asian yellow man, or a black person ashy, I would be racist.

  • @Rissa - It is widespread. Each tiny incident adds to it. It's prevalent in the media.

bollocks. the media is a white industry. frankly, it is a little offensive that you could try and get away with saying something so obviously ridiculous. 'each tiny incident adds to it', isolated incidents are isolated incidents. racism is a social issue, and it does not exist against whites in any meaningful way, because any groups who do feel hatred towards whites are far too politically and socially insignificant to have any meaningful impact.

Almost any foreign character is ripping on the pasty white guy.

what the hell does that even mean? i don't understand at all.

I'm not saying that I am more oppressed than anyone else

maybe not, but the entry quite clearly states that position in the question at the end, and you seemed to be in full agreement with the post, so... and racism against whites is largely harmless. do you know how many white people die in racially aggravated attacks in america each year? or even get injured? and how do you suppose those figures compare with the number of blacks, hispanics, or asians? like i said, give me a break. you're talking nonsense.

And yes, pasty is a negative skin reference

so is 'freckly' or 'spotty' or just plain 'blotchy'. you're talking nonsense.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - I obviously see that you are simply looking for a debate, but I'm not buying into your bollocks. We disagree, get over it.

  • @Rissa - ah, i see, you think that simply having an opinion, no matter how unfounded it may be, suffices as intellectual honesty. i don't respect your opinon because it is not supported by reality. you are very easy to offend, it seems.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - No, I am simply too tired to deal with your nonsense. You haven't offended me one bit, don't worry your pretty little head about it.

  • @Rissa - @Rissa - i can't deny that you do incite hatred of whites. perhaps you are a self-fulfilling prophecy. i have never felt so racist towards whites as i do reading this thread and the long list of socially and financially privileged commenters who genuinely think that mild adjectives qualify as racism.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - You really are failing to get under my skin,  which I can tell you are so desperately trying to do. Give up and move on to another that will play along. I have work to do, I won't be responding to your bait any longer.

  • the only fragile thing about my pale, pasty skin is when im in the sun too long lol

but yes its irritating. i think every race is somewhat racist... soo...yeah >_>

  • It's been pretty well documented that racism against the so-called ethnic minorities went on for decades and centuries in some cases, going so far as leading to slavery. Caucasian people get slandered in *two whole episodes* of some random little sitcom starring *surprise* a largely white cast and "several" people mentioned to you their personal belief that black/asian women/people were better, and this is supposedly cause for a huge protest? Suck it up.

  • All people are beautiful! And that we all look different just makes the human race even more beautiful!

  • To tell u the truth, I never noticed that. But they do to the minorities... just like in the Rush Hour, Chris Tucker said to Jackie when he accidently hits Jackie - "What?! You all look alike!" ... What the heck?! I know he was trying to be funny but that got me pissed.

I hate racism, I dislike it. To me, everyone is the same, equal. But unfortunately this ain't the case.

  • Apparently, she is blind because according to her, all Asians look the same.  Yet if anyone made such a statement towards the black community, can we say outrage?

    *SPAZZ*
I HATE THAT!! Chinese look different to Japanese, who look different to Koreans who look different to Malaysians who look different o Chinese etc etc!!! GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE YOU SAY STUFF ><
Man I spazz out at people who tell me that. What's worse is that they think Asia is one big country, or all Asians are Chinese, or Japan is one part of China (okay I'm Chinese too, but that's still SLACK) etc etc.. SOMEONE TELL ME HOW THESE PEOPLE PASSED SCHOOL OO

    -rant finish-

    ... For now

  • @Rissa - never knew racism could apply to white people.  Now that's pretty racist.  It basically means that racism was meant for blacks, hispanics, and asians.

and yeahh... @Big_Esh - I'm sorry, but bling was a term i used just now to get the added affect.  I'm sorry you're so picky.  But yes black people do wear diamonds, but there are so few black people that can afford diamonds in this country, so you won't see many of them around.  And the reason why you have this black rapper figure floating around your head is because American media portrays black people as hip hop artists and basketball superstars.  Fortunately, black people are so much more than those two qualities.

Cry me a river for white people. Poor white people, i sympathize with.  But middle class and above, give me a break.

  • As a black man, I hardly think that the words pale or pasty are racist, I haven't  used the terms but, I don't think that there is much negative connotation to either of the phrases. We are all victimized daily, but I think that to some degree, we've all come to the thought of "its all in the past, I refuse to be a victim" so as long as it isn't something completely over the top and direct, I'll allow it, but that little-bit that we've allowed is now shaping our society (the shows, the jokes, the ads, the social norms)

  • Really good post!
    And I agree with AnamcharaConcepts.

  • Variety is the spice of life. That's just how it is.

Did you hear the joke about caucasians? Apparently they are more coloured than the 'coloured'. The joke goes like this: Caucasians turn pink when they're embarassed, red when they're angry, green when they're sick, blue when they're cold and purple when they're frustrated.

BTW, that was just a joke... hehe.

Personally, there is beauty in all races. Most of my friends are Caucasian, and I would love to be pale like that. Personally I like my boyfriend's 'paleness' compared to my tanned skin, even though he prefers mine. I guess it all works out in the end.

Maybe one day, everyone will just be beige.

  • @Charity_the_So_Called_Artist - I wonder what they would say to my husband, who also didnt vote for Obama and is against illegal immigration.  He is both Chinese and an immigrant.

  • @Aniki1119 -

First of all those people are over there killing each other, and it really doesn't have anything to do with the situation at hand.  Those diamonds get bought buy biget rich people and have nothing to do with a certain race.

Cops do their job, there are still racist out there but every cop isn't out there to make anyone's life hell.

And people wouldn't misprotray anyone if that wasn't the image you put out there yourselves, so who's fault is that exactly?

If you are in african picking out shiny rocks from a stream then yeah I do feel sorry for you, but if not what the heck is your point?  Other than you yourself are being racist.  There are sevral other things that people deal with besides being called ugly, and the fact that you don't know what else to say other than something about people thosands of miles away who in the end have only themselves to blame because they are the ones discriminating against and killing one another.  Just proves you really don't understand this conversation to begen with.

  • @Aniki1119 - are you seriously seeing the same people I'm seeing?  It didn't matter how poor they were everyone in the whole freaking high school I went to had gold chains, designer shoes, designer hats, designer grills, jeans, rims, cars, those god awful bling shirts with all the cartoon characters the whole kit and caboodle every last person just about.  While I wore what my parents could afford to get off the discount rack.  Something I got picked at every day for.  That's all I ever saw in school. no one was ever so glad to graduate from that place as I was.

If everyone is too freaken poor to afford all the damn "bling" then where the heck is it all comeing from?

Yes, and white people are more than shallow rich people who wear a lot of diamonds.  Before you can expect a styrio type to go away you need to quit going by one.

Hmp, I don't think middle class and upper class of any race has anything to cry about.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - you've obviously never had to deal with the same ridicule and torment as some of us have.  How can you really pass judgment on something you've had no real expereince in?

  • @Mirravin - umm. i don't understand the conversation to begin with?  this guy is complaining that white people have it bad.  Now I agree, I don't even like the idea of race.  It's too vague and arbitrary to judge people by the color of their skin.  But looking at a general view of the world, white people are not doing so bad in America as compared to blacks and hispanics in this country.  If you don't believe that, then just look at statistics of African Americans and Hispanics.  An African American is more likely to go to jail than college.  And i can guarentee you, the rate of crime goes up due to the rate of poverty.

And if you want to pick on the word "bling" i'll explain it to your ignorant ass.  It was developed by rich black people who sold out to their own race.  They brain wash young minority youth that bitches and dough are the only thing to work for in this world and therefore do not set up a good goals or aspirations for them.

If you want me to explain anything else to you, i'll be more than glad to do so.

  • @Aniki1119 - It's not about who has it worse, prooving you didn't get the point.  No one's trying for a whinning contest.  It's about the fact that whites are getting bashed because they are white a lot more than everyone want's to believe because all they want to do is say oh, but we've had it so bad so you desirve it.

I understand the term "bling" and I think it's a stupid, idiotic word.  So I'm sorry I didn't give it the respect you believe it needs.  Oh yes, my ass is ingnorent last time I checked my brain was in my skull.  Wait let me look, yup no brain in those butt cheecks.  In it's defence I know it's a dumb ass, but a least it's not a smart ass eh?

  • i don't think they are the most attacked. you obviously don't hang around too much. i don't really care for racist jokes but everyone makes them so for you to make white people seem like the most victimized, that is a bit far-fetched.

  • i saw this epidsode also and feel racism should be abolished already, its not like we're living in the 50s still. this is a new generation teach your children not to be racist. I acutally am white but bought my sisters son a black little einsteins doll so he wouldn't find it weird to have a black toy.

  • I think asian people get it the worst (besides native americans who we've almost completely killed off), 'cause asian people never openly complain or make a big deal out of anything and except in little cliques (like nail shops or hospitals) are usually some of the most polite people. White people too, but a white person can't stick up for themselves otherwise it's racism.

  • It's just a different type of black person, the racist kind. I, however, am ANTI-racist, and ANY racist I come across are in for a huge lecture.

  • depending on what race you are, there are always gonna be some problems that you see in another race and even in your own race. racism is doublesided and both parties usually do it. i doubt there will ever be a perfectly acceptable world where everyone is equal. hell, even colors in a box of crayons are shorter by which color is used most. no one ever says "hey my favourite color...is every color". life.

  • The Big Bang Theory is pretty much my favorite show, so you're pretty much awesome...

  • The first thing was in regard to Jews. Jews are not only a minority, but have always been discriminated against. To say they are apart of the white majority is ignorant. Yes it disturbs me, but it's just as socially acceptable as discrimination against Asian Americans. Sorry I didn't read the whole thing but I just felt the need to comment on that part.

  • i know what you mean.

i hate racism in any form. why people hate people that are different from them is a mystery to me.
i get called white girl (which is kinda dumb since i'm very tan and tan is a shade of brown just like "black people" are really just a darker shade of brown) at my school allll the time (the majority of the people at my school are African American or Hispanic) I'm like excuse me I prefer the term Caucasian American.

  • im white and ive always just found it funny... but i just generally like stuff thats not pc!

  • Earlier this month, a 19 year old black coworker got into an arguement with a black inmate.  The inmate then told my coworker "Shut your bitch-ass up!" and the coworker said "Hey, I'm not some punk-ass white boy."   In retrospect, I should have told a supervisor about it.

Also, I think that coworker is racist agains whites.  He's always picking on me and other white coworkers sucking up to the inmates when the closest guard is white (if that makes sense).  I'm 24-going-on 25.  He shouldn't pick on his elders like that.

  • Every race gets attacked by every other race. It's not just one or the other.

  • I love TBBT! And I wish we could all just love each other...no race is more beautiful than another...people are so ignorant -_-

  • I'm so sorry, Ricky.  I fail you now because I have a certain resentment towards the Caucasian race.  Mainly because of their imposing standard of beauty that has affected people all over the world.  They've chosen for the rest of us what is and is not beautiful.  Small noses, light, flawless skin, petite lips, jaw structure, etc.  The most "beautiful" women of different cultures are all embodying these qualities.

    Examples upon request. :)

  • Imo.. white people are more attractive.. But I am not racist... People can say Native pride, Black pride but a white person who says white pride is racist.. I never understood that...........

  • It's pathetic that people today feel they need to keep racism alive. Why is it so hard for all of them to just accept the differences and be happy? Forget the past and accept things the way they are today. If you're going to hate a whole race for something done in the past then I say you're not worth my time -_-

I don't really think it bothers me to be called that more so than just hearing it.

  • No 'white' people are really white. Unless they painted themselves white

  • 420 comments, WOW I think thats the most ive ever seen :P

    Anyways.......
I've had a black women tell me (I am white) that I dont know  REAL racism since I am white.. Which makes absolutly NO sence at all... ANYONE can experience racism... Its sad, but true... Okay, yeah, I am pale, but does skin colour make anyone "better looking" than others? NO.. I hate it when people make fun of people for those things... Messed up..

  • Yes, I am.  There's a black history month, but there's no white history month.  Most colleges have clubs only for asians or blacks or hispanics, etc, but if you try to make one for only white kids it's racist.  There is no white kid scholarship, but there's a scholarship for everyone else under the sun.

    ftw.

  • I recently had a falling out with a Tumblr friend over racism. I don't tolerate any type of racism and she was posting all sorts of negative messages directed at white, American, and European women. They don't have style. They're ugly. All white people have a savior complex. White people think they're soooo liberal but they're all closed minded. When white people wear indian-inspired clothes they look stupid. The only reason a white woman should wear a saari or choli is if she is given one at an Indian wedding so she doesn't ruin the bride's pictures.

I sent her a message that I was going to unfollow her because she had taken a nasty racist tone. She posted my message to her Tumblr then started publicly harassing me. Some people...racism is simply NOT okay. Bullying people and making them feel bad about themselves is NOT okay.

  • They're attacked, but they're still the standard of beauty.

Not that it's right or true, but I kind of understand the blacks being more beautiful than whites comment. A lot of "beautiful" white people with blond hair and blue eyes would suddenly look plain if you gave them darker features, but many black people have those dark features and look gorgeous.
