  • The Realities Of White Oppression

The feedback received in my campaign against racism (White People Are Beautiful Too) never ceases to amaze me.  One particular comment that caught my eye was the person who found my defence for the Caucasian race “disturbing” because I’m Chinese.

Is it disturbing when White defends Black?  How about when William Wilberforce made it his personal agenda to abolish the African slave trade?

Defending someone requires empathy alone.  There’s no such thing as “reverse racism”.  Racism is racism, while socially accepted discrimination against Caucasians was created by none other than self-loathing White liberals as a deception.  White oppression is real, but people are too afraid to speak up, rendering anti-Caucasianism harmless as it remains hidden.  Calling someone “pale” or “pasty” and alongside with “frail” is racism.  The same goes for making fun of a darker skinned person without the use of chocolate.

If the history card is to be played, isn’t it racism to call a Jew “frail and pasty”, considering their history of unspeakable turmoil within the walls of Nazi concentration camps?

In one of the comments, MsButterworth311 wrote, “Wow we’re finally getting a taste of our own medicine!”

This is a dangerous mindset.  Not only does it imply that every member of the Caucasian race deserves prejudice, it lumps them together, including the Irish who were enslaved.  Irish females were forced to be raped by African men to create more profit in the slave trade.  Do they deserve a taste of said medicine?

History gives us the opportunity to better ourselves, not to repeat mistakes, but hypocrisy outweighs logic.  While there are some who claim Whites aren’t the most oppressed, they contradict themselves by acknowledging them as the safest group to attack.  This form of safety is the exact reason White oppression exists.

Even more mind-boggling is how Black women are actually defending the same liberals who deem the original African female unattractive.  How often, if ever do we see a Black female with kinky hair in entertainment?  Their nakedness is exploited in science and nature documentaries because black breasts are considered ugly and to resemble those of a monkey’s.

Almost every actress of colour is conformed to the standard that having light skin and delicate features is the only form of beauty.  It causes insecurity amongst Black females, creating an environment of unpredictability that feeds into the deception promoting White oppression.

Insecurity as in (EbonyBarbie), “There were so many beautiful sexy colored women mostly black or latina, we happened to turn the page after seeing so many gorgeous women and happened to end up seeing a really pale white woman in purple undies.  Let me just tell you, we were so turned off.  It looked dead and unappealing.”

To further elaborate, we must take into account the comedic industry.  Would Russell Peters be able to thrive on making racially discriminating jokes if he was Caucasian?  Chris Rock discriminates against the Caucasian race time and time again, yet no one is publicly offended because racism against Whites is encouraged.

Either we abolish racism, or give everyone a free ticket to make fun of anyone of any race.  You can’t have it both ways.  You can’t go and call someone “cracker”, or “white trash” and get away with it, but yet you can…

Funny, how there are consequences to defending Whites and none with minorities.  Making examples of their oppression is apparently racist because I’m generalizing?  What the deluded fail to understand is the difference between the two because examples are evidence that racism exists, while generalization is a catalyst that yields hatred and more.

Generalizing is bringing up blood diamonds as a justifiable defence to suppress the truth.  As Big_Esh very intelligently wrote, “Didn’t the word ‘bling’ come from black people? You know, the rich black rappers who wear ‘blood diamonds’ large enough to eat dinner off of?”

Affirmative action is a voluntary slap in the face to minorities who see no problem with its falsities.  They’re agreeing to be intellectually inferior and that their sole reason for employment is skin colour.  It’s hilarious how these hypocrites are racist against themselves.

As far as White boys are concerned, listen up.  You’re neither frail nor pasty.  Get that stinking weed out of your mouth and speak like you finished grade three.  Stop jumping around like a bunch of crazed apes to that hip-hop gangster (c)rap and pull your pants up already.  You look like you just soiled yourself!

Get offended when you’re discriminated against, and stop taking insults like a doormat.  Grow some balls and be the White man you were meant to be.  Take a stand for your women because anything else makes you nothing more than a White boy.

    DO NOT BE DECEIVED:

White people are beautiful, and Caucasian women don’t look like corpses because of their impeccable whiteness, though excessive tanning will cause death from skin cancer.  White women are beautiful just the way they are.

Reader, what are the dangers of White oppression remaining hidden?  What are the damaging ripple effects of this mass deception?  Why do you think people continue to buy into this racial propaganda?

  • i really don't know. we've got over 200 years of white enslavement of blacks, and we're 50 odd years fresh out of the civil rights movement. there are still people around who remember having to go to a colored bathroom.  i feel like we should let them crack the jokes for a couple more decades then call it quits.on the flip side, racist jokes only feed the fire of racial tension, but still, is it so easy to forgive and forget like that? i can't answer that, only the people can.

  • You are right, but at the end of the day, life is hard for pretty much everyone.  If you try to get outraged at all the injustices in your life, you're just going to be.........outraged. Better to move on and actually accomplish something.......prove your critics wrong by doing something, instead of just asking them to stop.Any time you do anything different, you will find critics, so just forget it and move on.

  • Oh Ricky, admit it, you just love white people.  P.S.  I have a bear I've had since I was a itty bitty and his name is Cracker.  Does that make me racist against my own race?

  • "There were so many beautiful sexy colored women mostly black or latina, we happened to turn the page after seeing so many gorgeous women and happened to end up seeing a really pale white woman in purple undies.  Let me just tell you, we were so turned off.  It looked dead and unappealing.”I don't think that white women are unattractive at all, and if she is being insecure, she has a reason to be. It's very rare to see "minorities" in fashion magazines. Fashion magazines are designed to tell women what's what in fashion and beauty, and if all we see is white beauty in magazines, then how are we not going to feel insecure. I'm not saying that white women are not beautiful in their own way, but i'm also saying that I don't think white people are oppressed. Sure there is prejudice against them but overall, they're not oppressed in any major way.

  • Great post.Hilarious last line, about the sun tanning.

  • I did not know that bit about Irish slaves, that's really interesting. Sad, and terrible, but interesting.I've always figured, if I'm not racist towards anyone, no one gets to be racist towards me. Period. Whether or not I'm white. Do unto others, and all that jazz.

  • @Cuenquita - I would have to agree. Discrimination and oppression are two different things.

  • I'm exceptional white, and have been called ugly all my life, told I need to tan to be beautiful.  I hate how people still can't get over the color of others skin.  If skin color turns you off you are racist plain and simple.

  • i support French people! (cuz they've been making gewwwwwd horror cinema for the past few years noaw )

  • @Cuenquita - can you really say that until you've been there?  Have you been bullied every day of your life because of your skin color? Get told your ugly every single day just because you have fair skin?  All because every idiot person in this world thinks that they need repayment.

  • i was listening to n.p.r. the other day.......and peoples were talking abt asians getting together(in the u.s.) and getting some kinda racial solidarity, except they said pacific islanders..no i think they said all asians..hmmmmm  maybe they could get together at dallas stadium for brunch and stand 4 high...i mean i don't get it..then one guy said he was treated kindly in iowa , but still felt different......welll if you feel different then you will be.....its a self fullfilling thing......they wanted to be separated out to say hey look at us..were all asian...and then want to  blend in...isnt that stupid?????..i'll never get it..all races should stop seeing colors and act like freaking humans and forget it.................................

  • @rebootie - that's the thing, sadly they already are acting like humans.  It's human nature to act ignnorent and selfish.

  • I believe that negative comments toward a race or culture is considered racist. But let's remember that if a person has a preference it doesn't make that person a racist.  It is how we treat each other.  It is a matter of respecting the differences in all of us.

  • Excellent post! Well spoken! I don't know what else to say.

  • Reverse racism exists, but the term itself is not accepted and it is still the same wrong doings as racism. The term "minority" is just on a demographic basis, which only reflects the amount of a certain people. It does not mean that the race is weak or anything else. I agree with the rest of your post.

  • I just think it is frustrating to be discriminated against as a result of the fact that my ancestors may have or may not have [but probably not] owned black slaves. I didn't even know those people. I didn't oppress anyone.I think my white skin is beautiful. I am very, very pale. And it works for me. I could lay in the sun for hours and not get the least bit tan too. It isn't because I am weak or because I don't go outside. That's just the natural state of my skin. And I think there are many beautiful black girls too. I think women in general are beautiful, and it is ridiculous for women to constantly compare themselves to others. And black people are barely a minority. There are almost as many black people in America as white people.<3

  • 'History gives us the opportunity to better ourselves as a civilization, not to repeat mistakes.' ...I...I...I think I'm in love with you...I do agree with the girl that you rec'ed earlier today (sorry, this whole crazy life thing is really taking a toll on the amount of time I can devoted to being online lately...details escape me) that white people at the media's pets when it comes to missing persons/murder cases. Back when Tim had satalite radio, he was listening to a comic, who's name also escapes me, whom said something along the lines of, "You've got to be careful with white women. They go missing all the time!" Jennifer Kesse. Jon Benet. Caylee Anthony. Laci Petersen. Grandma's watching HGTV again or I'd flip on the 10 o'clock news and continue the list. Meanwhile, a black woman's murdered and seven years after the fact the city of Orlando throws up a billboard in the area in which she was killed, asking anyone with information to come forward. I don't recall if there was even a reward for info offered. I've long stood up and called bullshit on that. But that does not make it right to put down any race, period.@Cuenquita - I agree that "oppression" is the wrong word. Whites are still largely in power in many ways. We do see mostly white news anchors, actors, etc.. But when you look at the qoute that you referred to, the original author was remarking not that she never saw any models of color -- just the opposite, actually; "There were so many beautiful sexy colored women mostly black or latina..." -- and fashion magazines tend to be more diverse than any other publication, from what I've seen...so...I guess I'm confused as to why she has the right to be hatin' on the white chick in the purple undies...??

  • @Chinese_Sait0u - I can understand what you are saying but the problem is... they are passing their racism down to their children. :( <3

  • @Mirravin - There is a difference between oppression and prejudice. The people that bullied you were discriminating against you, they were prejudiced. That is my point. Individually, you might be facing unjust discrimination but I don't believe white people in general are oppressed. Oppression is when a group of people exercise an unjust power over another. Prejudice, sexism, and racism (against white people or otherwise) can lead to oppression but only if its incorporated into the law or/and into our culture. Open a magazine, turn on the television, listen to people incorporate stereotypes in their everyday talk. I'm sorry, but white people are not oppressed.  And I know all too well about being bullied because of the color of your skin. To add to the conversation, is calling someone pale really insulting? Genuinely curious because people often refer to me as dark or tan, and I never found it insulting, it's just the way I am, so wouldn't pale be just the way you are?

  • Like I said before, I refuse to be victimized. I despise the notion of playing the race card, and in the interest of either eating or having my cake, but not both, I will not play it myself. I can't go around telling other people to lighten up and then start whining myself, right? If we could all just sit back and laugh at ourselves without getting offended about it, I feel like the world would be a much better place. I agree with you about affirmative action... it's people who can't see far enough past their own bleeding heart to realize that they're putting their efforts into the wrong place. All the legislation and money wasted on AA would be better spent on inner-city education to really 'level the playing field'; the divide in opportunities nowadays isn't a schism between white/black, it's one between rich/poor -- which translated directly into better/worse educated in almost every circumstance. Unfortunately, this is largely a perpetuating cycle that many blacks and latinos are trapped in, and thus the knee-jerk reaction is that looming spectre of racism. "Black people aren't going to college so they're being oppressed!" is the cry, when there are more complicated causes than that - ones that AA in its present form simply isn't going to fix. I digress. Anyway, I don't feel like I'm taking insults like a doormat; Chris Rock's cracking jokes about white people just doesn't bother me. Chances are I've made the same joke myself. That we can't make similar jokes about black people just shows that there are indeed knee-jerkers who want to throw around allegations of racism at the first opportunity, and that is by no means the sort of thing I want to be involved in or associated with. There's a lot of ground in your post that I feel like I could respond to, but I don't want to get too far into tl;dr territory (I fear I've made it there already D:), so I'll let it go at that. All in all, this was a great read and it's refreshing to get a new perspective on things!

  • @phantomFive - amen, amen, amen. I want to give you like ten gold stars for this.

  • I'm "white," and my ancestry is mostly Irish and Gypsy, not exactly the "power classes" of europe.  But, i get treated the same by the "black" people who live all around me all the time, refusing me service, calling me racist names, etc.  It's a regular occurance - a few times a week, usually, but there's not really anyone I could ever complain to about it, because when I have, the common response is "well, white people have it coming," or something to that effect.  Thanks for saying something.Incidentally, I have begun to wonder if there is a way past this.

  • @Cuenquita - that's the thing in my community the only white females considered even close to pretty are all blond and as thin as a stick.

  • I think one of the main reasons (if not the main reason) that it's "acceptable" to be racist against white people is because of all of the slavery that went around a while back. The thing though, is that the younger generations haven't gone through slavery. The younger generations have never owned a slave. Older people remember, yes; but most of the people who are racist against others haven't gone through that. I think that there should be no jokes made about someones race, unless every single race is open to do that to others. If we're going to make racist jokes, we'd all better be able to do it - On ourselves and everyone else. Racism is sucky no matter what.

  • @filtered_sunlight@momaroo - I picked that quote because Ricky mentioned that she was insecure and I think she has a good reason to be. I was not justifying any unjust discrimination she might possess against white people.Yeah, fashion magazines are more "diverse" than other magazines but take a look at the models, they all have "white" features, large eyes, straight hair, and skinny. These are features you wouldn't actually see from minorities (except for the exceptions to the rule, right?). Also, even if the magazines are more diverse than any other publication, that doesn't mean the majority of the models aren't white.

  • @Cuenquita - The actual words don't matter much, it's the meaning behind them.  When people say, "you are pale" it is a criticism because in our society tan is considered better.  It does get annoying after a while, but no more annoying than any of the other typical criticisms and labels that go on in high school.

  • As always, DearRicky, you are the man.  Any society that turns on part of itself will eventually consume itself.  It's so completely cheesy, but the Sesame Street song "We Are All Earthlings" is nice.  If we could look at one another and see a human being who is beautiful and worthwhile instead of "wrong" because they are different, the world would be a much nicer place to be.  I believe in God and that God loves each person individually, so I try to look at people and see the person God loves.  Sometimes that is hard because I tend to be shallow at times, but it's worth while to try.  Given the chance, most people are lovely.

  • To answer your question- I think we've already felt the effects of racism this last election. McCain and Palin made a point to stick strictly to talking points- I can't say the same about the other side- "first black presidential candidate" "historical moment" were all that Obama's people were saying- most weren't listening to talking points- political issues (not saying ALL Obama supporters were that way- some were dead set on Obama paying for their mortgage). Then there were the Black Panthers standing guard at the entrances to polling centers on election day threatening white people "not this time- this is our turn"... hmm... racist much?? I wonder how many white people chose Obama out of some mythical guilt they were made to feel for possibly voting against the first black presidential candidate. No one I know who voted for McCain Palin did so for racist reasons- but I certainly cannot say the same for those who voted for Obama. Politicians (and screwballs like Sharpton and Jackson) need to stop drumming up racial angst and inciting people. I know they won't because it pads their pockets- but they represent the worst of America when they do that. Your average American wishes to be over and done with racial issues- we're ready for unity as a nation.

  • @LLroomtempJ - It's the unspoken racism....often when someone says "you have a big nose" they are really saying "you have a big nose and that is bad."  Sad but true.

  • @LLroomtempJ - Ah. I guess I understand.

  • @Cuenquita - I think we're looking at different fashion magazines or something... I've seen quite a few models in magazines like Vogue with hair and features that looked like they'd been selected from the Discovery channel's special on Zimbabwe. Beautiful, exotic looking girls. Models in general leave the world with insecurities, even if you're white...it doesn't mean you look like them.

  • @phantomFive - that is your subjective opinion. Not everyone who points out what makes me unique is doing so because they think what makes me unique is inherently bad.adjectives can be derogatory, neutral or complimentary. What if i like pasty skin? Pasty is an adjective. What matters is authorial intent, not reader response.

  • Great post, yet again I think people are just getting a bit to politically correct with all this. There are plenty of jokes, all races being the butt of them. Like you said, Chris Rock uses white people many a times. I FIND THEM FUNNY. I am not offended. It's a joke. He's not being serious. Enough already.I like Chris Rock, I like Russell Peters, hell Denzel Washington is one of my favourite actors. And when it comes about that I like "black music" all hell breaks loose. I'm put into a category of white people loving black people music. Get a freaking life. So what if I like a little rap, or hip hop or r'n'b. Why should it matter to you? FYI I love all kinds of music, my music library is not limited to that. And by the way, just because I like a little Limp Bizkit does not mean I'm a head banging white trash of sorts.People need to stop getting their panties in a twist!DearRicky, you are for the win on this. I sincerely hope you don't get too much crap about this

  • You have skewed the definition of racism to be something that it is not. If i say that you have slanted eyes, is that RACISM? If you say that i have a big nose...IS THAT REALLY RACISM?!?!?!?!?racism is not pointing out our differences, but rather DISCRIMINATING ON THE BASIS OF OUR DIFFERENCES.I don't think that this is my first time pointing this out to you.Discrimination is not pointing out that a black man has curly hair. It is not hiring him because he has curly hair.Discrimination requires an action based on the DISTINCTION that is made. Here's a definition from dictionary.com:Discrimination:to make a distinction in favor of or against a person or thing on thebasis of the group, class, or category to which the person or thingbelongs rather than according to actual merit; show partiality: The new law discriminates against foreigners. He discriminates in favor of his relatives. If you can read this comment and still continue on with the things that you say, you are showing yourself not only to be ignorant, but unthinking.i can't believe that i subscribed to this foolishness.oh - and this entry sounds very intolerant and hateful. What if some asians and white people WANT to present themselves as urban? what if they ARE being who they want to be? who are YOU to define what they have to be? Sounds like you're discriminating against this particular minority group on the grounds that you deem them to be less socially acceptable than others that live up to stereotypes. You would do well to take a class or seminar on racism at your local community college or something. You really need it. Someone might discriminate against you on the basis of your poor logic and deny you a job or something...

  • @LLroomtempJ - It depends what the person is trying to communicate.  If you are trying to say I'm a loser because of my big nose, that's discrimination.  If you are just saying I have a big nose, that's not.  If it's hateful, it's racism (or noseism in this case).

  • @phantomFive - ok - we're on the same page.

  • @filtered_sunlight@momaroo - We must be. "Models in general leave the world with insecurities, even if you're white...it doesn't mean you look like them." No, it doesn't, but the more common features amongst models whether they are minorities or white are white features. I mean really, whenever I see an Asian model, she has larger eyes than usual, black models are extremely thin, when in reality most black women are beautifully curvaceous. These are features more associated with white people. I have seen magazines that display fuller models like TeenVogue but for the most part, models in general, all have similar features. Not saying that these features aren't beautiful, but fashion magazines really aren't as diverse as you say they are. And yeah the fashion models do leave the rest of the world with insecurities but I think it takes a much bigger toll on minorities.I'd like to share a video with you, I hope I haven't been insulting you or anything.  found this pretty interesting, i'd like to know what you think.

  • ... apparently I don't see any of this where I live. "The Realities of White Oppression". . . right. I don't mean to be snide about it, but... I've just never heard any comments "oppressing" white people. Of course in a group of friends or on television you see jokes/cracks on it, but there are the same types of comments on every race. "White oppression" is no special case. I live in a city that is very very diverse. We have just about every culture-combo right in my block. I get where you're coming from, white people have it just as bad as minorities do. So what, we are all equal then. Let's just get on with our lives. Right?Good post though, it's always nice to find something to actually stop & think about.

  • @Cuenquita - I wonder as to what sort of statistics regarding racial phenotypes you have to support your claims here...

  • @QuantumStorm - @_@ You don't need statistics, you just need to look around.

  • @Cuenquita - Bullshit. Unless you can back up your claims with actual numbers, you're just committing a generalization fallacy.

  • @QuantumStorm - The idea of race itself is based on outward appearance. Are you going to tell me now that white people don't have white skin? or that that black people don't have dark skin? Really?

  • @JadedJanissary - I totally hear you about your background, yet being treated exactly the same.  It's ridiculous, especially because I, nor anyone in my family (that I know of) was involved with the slave stuff, so I don't understand why they have to take it out on me.  I was born at the tail end of the eighties and my family has been in the Cleveland area for as long as I can remember---believe me, we did not contribute to the enslavement of black men and women.

  • @Cuenquita - More smokescreening. You stated:"the more common featuresamongst models whether they are minorities or white are white features.I mean really, whenever I see an Asian model, she has larger eyes thanusual, black models are extremely thin, when in reality most blackwomen are beautifully curvaceous. These are features more associatedwith white people. "Again, where are your statistics supporting the claims that: 1) Asians DON'T have "larger eyes" than the "usual" (what is the "usual"?)2) Most black women are "curvaceous" (how do you define "curvaceous"?)3) The features of "larger eyes" and "thin" bodies are more associated with white people."Looking around" is not the same as providing hard facts to support your claims. As for white people not having white skin or vice versa... there are "black" albinos and melanic "whites". (Again, however you define "black" or "white"... )

  • @pillowpixies - Yes, but the offspring of most Whites get to enjoy the fruits earned off the backs of minorities while the underprivileged have to start from scratch.  This is probably the root cause of all the sour grapes.  If someone could hit one big reset button and everyone can start from 0, then I think racism can be eliminated.  Until that day, it will be very difficult for minorities to forgive and forget.  *note*  I think the worst situation is to be a poor White man, because nobody is on your side.  You get left behind by fellow White people, and minorities will not cut you any slack either.

  • @Cuenquita - //Of course the notion of race is completelystupid, because race itself is based off of generalizations, in whichcase, me and everyone else who is commenting on race is in the wrong .//Yup, sounds about right.

  • @coolmonkey - Not all white people are privileged, sadly. There are plenty of underprivileged people, and I won't deny that at all; yet it's not just the minorities that are underprivileged. There are plenty of white people who're underprivileged. Not all white people are up on high horses saying, "Ha, I'm going to screw that minority over ASAP." If everyone would stop trying to screw each other over, then people could quit being paranoid about it, then we wouldn't worry about being a certain color. The least everyone could do is give everyone an equal opportunity to be screwed over.

  • @QuantumStorm - Wow the exception to the rule! You win! The usual is smaller eyes, curvaceous is having larger breasts or heavier than other races, that doesn't mean all people of those particular races have those features, but those are the features associated with those races, it's nothing you can prove with statistics because they're ideas we hold as a society. Of course the notion of race is completely stupid, because race itself is based off of generalizations, in which case, me and everyone else who is commenting on race is in the wrong .

  • thanks for your first post an this one, good stuff. i'm sick of what i think of as the "white guilt mentality." when white people get discriminated against, a lot of them have the idea that its not as bad because other white people kept slavery going and gave minorities crap. i always thought it was stupid though cuz i havent oppressed anyone today so by lumping me (and most white people who haven't done anything wrong) in with the racist idiots, all that's done is perpetuating racism against more innocent people.

  • @pillowpixies - As I have mentioned before, underprivileged Whites are at the bottom of the barrel.  They are arguably at a worse position than poor minorities.  But until we can find a way to start everyone on equal footing, this lingering hatred will continue.  So long as there is the dynamic of advantaged vs disadvantaged, and that dynamic is spawned from a long history, we can not have true peace.  We can get along, but racism won't disappear.  Minorities will use inequality as a crutch when they can't succeed, and Whites will use equality to try to sweep history under the rug.

  • @QuantumStorm - I promise you, that wasn't meant to sound sarcastic...

  • @Cuenquita - I took it seriously.

  • @coolmonkey - yes, being white must be so fucking perfect like you make it out to be... its not like any of us white people have struggled. its not like any of us have deadbeat fathers or have had to work to support ourselves since before it was even legal for us to hold a job. and of course we all make our bank by oppressing minorities. yep, me being a laborer on a maintenance crew is just holding everyone else back. oh, and my mom too, she's a contractor who edits legal publications for a living, she's "earned her fruits" by exploiting minorities. you've just got everything figured out, cuz you know, us white people all start out with an Ace in our hand in the game of life.with all due respect, you've successfully just spewed the stupidest shit i've read on xanga in quite a while

  • @Ballisticfutbol - You clearly did not finish reading the rest of my comment.  And in doing so, have proved my point entirely.

  • You've got some interesting points. This is really worth thinking about and it doesn't matter if people agree with what you've said. You've made them think...and ticked a few of them off so much that it seems they didn't think at all before responding. lol. In order for racism to end we all need to stop and think about the ways in which we help to keep it going...because we all do even though we don't intend to. I never thought of calling someone pale and pasty as racist (and I've never called anyone pale and pasty for the record) but I can definetly see how by sheer repetition it can become a slur. Case in point, Don Imus. He said what he said about those basketball players because he heard it so much he thought it was funny/ok.As a black woman and minority, if such a thing even exists anymore, I think this is a not so nice side effect of the shift in the ethnic makeup of America. But I grew up in the south where many people's feeling towards race issues is "you're either with us or against us" so I've never really been presented with an opportunity to even think about this until now. To think all this time we all thought that mixing of the races would speed up equality and instead it's just creating new groups of people to oppress. I think this is going to be the human race's fatal flaw. As for white features of ethinic models/actresses, it's sad but true. I happened across a blog about that very topic awhile back. A black man had broken down a list of black models/actresses that were favored in Hollywood. The most popular ones almost all had more Caucasian features. I'll have to try to find the link.

  • @coolmonkey - no, i saw the cute little note at the end, my issue with that is that you seem to make white people who don't have every priviledge in the world out to be some rare exception. i may not be an expert in the socio-economic status of white people, but i really doubt most white people have it made like you imply at the beginning. furthermore, how exactly do most white people "earn their fruits" at the expense of minorities? generally speaking, most of us don't own factories that profit from minority sweatshop labor or plantations with underpaid minority workers who slave away all day and thus make our money for us. so i honestly cant see how you can say most whites earn their money by exploiting minorities.

  • @coolmonkey - I hate to admit it, but that's the truth. It's hard to think that any form of racism will ever be gone, considering the fact that many people (I know at least a handful) like to complain about everything and anything, no matter what. I'll continue to dream on, though.

  • @Ballisticfutbol - I meant that, chances are, your ancestors were not slaves, you did not have your property confiscated, you weren't moved into concentration camps, you didn't have special taxes imposed on you based on your skin color, etc.  Even if you are Irish or Italian, you may have been treated like trash as well, but you have the benefit of being able to "blend in."  My point that poor White people are at the bottom of the ladder is because they don't have any of the above reasons to be in the position they are in.  If minorities were never put in such a disadvantaged position in history, then who knows if their reasons for being poor are legit?  The point is, poor Whites do not have any plausible excuses.  If you don't want to hear about racism, then talk to rich immigrants that bought their way over to the US.  I'm sure most of them have no gripes whatsoever.  In fact, I have no ill-will whatsoever since my parents are said immigrants.  I was just trying to explain why these lingering racial tensions still exist until you so rudely butted in.

  • @PreciousOnyx - Finally someone else annoyed by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. They've had their day and now they cause more trouble than anything else.@pillowpixies - Lol, I completely agree. Everyone should have the chance to be screwed over regardless of their race, it might just make them a better person.

  • @thats_not_my_name - Lol, I really think it would. I'd never screw anyone over on purpose, but if I were the type to do so, I'd like to believe that I'd do it no matter the color of their skin and I hope that others would screw me over whether I'm white, black, tan, pale, etc. I'd prefer to not be screwed over in general, but nevertheless.

  • @coolmonkey - ok, i'm sorry, but i've never bought into that whole fantasy that because of old barriers such as slavery, braceros, or whatever else that the descendents of those who suffered injustice a century ago are screwed and can blame all their issues on stuff that happened to their ancestors decades ago. and i'm a little curious "poor whites do not have any plausible excuses." sorry for not being wealthy, i guess we've just been too stupid and lazy to ascend the ladder, it all makes sense now. anyway, again, what i would really love to hear is an explanation of how most white people "earn their fruits" at the expense of minorities... you seem to avoid answering that. i know i've been an asshole, but seriously, you made the statement, now go ahead and qualify it, bud.

  • I would tell you everything I love about your post, but it would be longer than your post.

  • I agree that there is no such thing as 'reverse' racism. Seriously, that's bullcrap. But I still don't believe calling someone pale is an insult.

  • This was well-written. I don't like really like the topic of racism because not being completely opposed to it makes me a bigot, in some people's eyes.

  • I'm going to let a lot of shit fly, but I am going to watch for white men who speak with forked tongues. Then again maybe lawyers are more to blame for forked tongue speak. Reverse racism is forked tongue speak for, "I want my share," (fu-- affirmative action)How about the use of the phase "Why don't you go back to -----(fill in the blank)? This is evidence of "white privilege since it is often directed to Americans who don't look white.Anyway those people who look for beautiful people are often skin deep in their judgment. I accept beautiful people who are beautiful on the inside. I want to be around people who are generous, caring and thoughtful, not people who are vain, crass and shortminded.

  • What exactly are you trying to say?  White oppression?  Whites as oppressors or as the oppressed?  A few racy jokes do not an oppressed people make.  I believe we already went over this, and the majority of people who responded to your post disagreed widely with your ill held view of caucasians as an oppressed group who need defending from racist jokes that the media makes about EVERY race, including the caucasian race.Let it go.  Very few people are likely to take you seriously or agree with you until caucasians experience at least half of the discrimination that other races have experienced at the hands of whites over the past two thousand years.

  • There will always be racists..@Mirravin - I'm exeptionally white too..And if I wasn't I'd be jealous.. xPI don't get why anyone would think it's ugly at all!Being a fair skinned maiden is so much better than being a girl in a can..(spray on tan/hair dye xP)

  • @Mirravin - Same here. Something about being celtic gives you super-white skin, I guess and I've been called ugly all my life over it as well. My skin looks even whiter because I have dark hair, which apparently even some of my relatives have told me makes me look like a vampire. I like to think of it as naturally gothic. School was pure hell. The good news: there is vindication for girls like us. I'm 40 and have barely any signs of aging because I keep my pale ass out of the sun. I've seen pictures via Classmates of some of the people I went to school with and a lot of them look like an old leather shoe.Oh, sweet justice.

  • @mr_randyc - I agree. I love all races but asians are just so beautiful to me, I can't help but find myself drawn to them.

  • "Amazing Grace, how Sweet the sound,That saved a wretch like me.I once was lost, but now I am foundWas blind, but now I see."William Wilberforce wrote those famous lines hundreds of years ago, but they still ring true. Without grace and understanding, we will never learn that we are all 'wretched' beings. No one person is above another; no one race or gender or age or anything. Until we grasp that, we will never be free from the snares of unnecessary pride. Great post Ricky!

  • Good post. People seem to attack the white race on the grounds of slavery as justification for being racist against them. Yet, if you pick up a history book, you will actually learn that the slave trade of the 16th-19th centuries was quite different than it is perceived to be. The slaves were rarely kidnapped by European slave traders, but were actually already enslaved in Africa by their own Kings and Queens. They were traded, or exported in exchange for other goods. And even then, the majority of these slaves were sent to Brazil. So I am tired of hearing ignorant remarks about justifying racism against whites.I don't like racism of any kind! We should all move on. We can be proud of our ethnicity without demeaning and belittling other races. I also don't like how I have seen where if someone (who isn't black) opposes  our current president for his performance in office so far, they are deemed a racist, when race has nothing to do with political views.

  • There is a difference between racism and being offensive.  Chris Rock's comedy is good example.  It is often offensive to white people and people who are offended should feel free to speak their mind. However the long history of black oppression in the US makes issues of racism towards whites a much difficult to address.

  • You're absolutely right that you don't need to be a victem of the problem to stand up against it. Racism is everyone's problem because it breeds anger, violence, and ignorance. Did you know that nearly 1% of our millitary is made up of active gang members? Many of them are killing soldiers both on US soil and overseas because of racism or gang rivalry. What happens when a black medic or gunner is killed by a US KKK idiot? Who does their job now? Who suffers from this racist insanity? The whole unit! What happens when you accodently witness a hate crime? Who believes the killer will allow you to live to identify him?And as for the chick who said the whites are getting a taste of their own medocine: she's an idiot. I don't know about the rest of you but I have personally never owned a slave. How long will we continue to hate each other for the actions of the previous generatios?

  • Very good entry!@Alyxandri - Actually Whites make up 80% of the population of the US, with Blacks at only 12.8%, hardly "barely a minority".http://www.census.gov/popest/national/asrh/NC-EST2007-srh.html

  • Racism will never go away if this continues. And I'm sick of it. People have to start calling the media and other people out. And not just about the oppression of European people, but every race. I go to a city school that is predominately African American, and I see this every. single. fucking. day. And the teachers (who are European) don't say a damn word or joke with it. But I remember an incident last year where a teacher called a bunch of special ed students "monkeys". The situation was totally blown out of proportion. The teacher(European) meant to use "monkey" to describe the kids as wild, fun, goofy, and rowdy. But someone overheard ( who was a student that usually gets into trouble and not someone you would call a good student) and immediately thought it was a derogatory term to describe the African American students. W.T.F. This incident was even reported in the newspaper, tv. etc.I should also add the teacher calls her own GRANDCHILDREN monkeys. Thinking about this is so frustrating. I don't know what to do to stop it.

  • Though I'm not religious, BLESS YOUR HEART for writing this for caucasians.  This happens so much and I'm sick of being looked at as just someone who can be made fun of, put down, or anything based on my skin colour.  I'm just as worthy as someone else, and no one else is less worthy than me because of skin colour.I REALLY wish this was more widely read and accepted worldwide.  I'm sick of those fucking famous comedians taking huge jabs at white people for their jokes.  Like sure, joke about all funny stereotypes, but don't just sucker punch us in the jaw the whole time.  I hate that.  It's NOT acceptable to just say shit about white people because of "minorities".  We're people too.

  • @for_ever_mustard - FYI there are more coloured people where I live than white people.  I'm considered a minority now, and I'm constantly discriminated against in the markets I go to, frequently NOT given "discounts" because I'm white.  So while it's not SLAVERY I don't think we should have it get to that point in order for this to be stopped.  I won't let it go, and she's right not to.

  • I'm sorry. I'm almost completely white (I have maybe an ounce or two of Native American, and I really wish I could check), but I'm not convinced this entry does what it intends to do, i.e: to prove the realities of white oppression. While I acknowledge its existence and prevalence at times, I can't help but think that in America, whites have it best. First of all, we're the BEST OFF economically, and due to YEARS of racism, blacks are worse off than us in multiple ways... economically, being healthy, and not to mention there's still instances of racism from police against blacks. Being called "pasty", while slightly offensive, just doesn't equate to that, nor does it equate to being called the N-word out of sheer anger or spite for black people in general. Just how does Chris Rock discriminate against whites? A few jokes, perhaps? Also, affirmative action doesn't always work that way. And it isn't always discriminatory. For now, you'll want to see this article. While I acknowledge the importance of pointing out racism against whites, I do not see that this entry even does so. Sorry.

  • @femaleBASSPLAYER - yeah, plus some people just look really fake with a tan on. you know those people that look like a orange no matter how much they try to tan let they still do it?  Why be something you arn't after all.

  • @for_ever_mustard - [What exactly are you trying to say?  Whiteoppression?  Whites as oppressors or as the oppressed?  A few racyjokes do not an oppressed people make.]Agreed! Thank you.

  • @ZombieMom_Speaks - ha ha! That's not a bad thought, but it's mean.I like it!

  • No race is ever safe. That's that.

  • @Axis_of_Doom - It's not just jokes, people from my senor class walked out on the prom with an hour left to go because they started playing "white people" music.  what the heck is that if it's not racsist?Oh, and why are white people concidered ugly if they don't have a tan to appear more darker, that's not racsist either? Why is it concidered uncool to be white if that's not racsist? How come you get picked on for wearing certain styles and told "your trying to be black"  what's up with that if not being against a color of some sort?A black and a white have the same grade average, and are trying to get into the same school, the black get's in atomatically without further concideration " so that everyone get's a fair chance"  if the two people had been of the same color there would have been a bit more done than just picking one.  there's nothing wrong with that either right? Why were whites discouraged from voteing at all this last election because they were scared of getting marked as a racsist for even showing up regaurdless of who they were voting for huh?  Is that not a sign of oppresion? I could go on and on with this list.  Proof it's not just a few racy jokes, that really don't help your defence by the way.

  • @coolmonkey - yeah but there are a lot more poor white people than you seem to think, to say that whites are just given everything sums us up in a whole and we arn't all paris hilton thank you very much.

  • Just remember that I am privileged and you must worship me.

  • I just wish I could rec this more than once.

  • If you have not notice I can't take anyone seriously, who points to another race and says they are racist, or privileged, or have any other cultural trait by virtue of their race.Such people are self contradictory and too stupid to even waste my time thinking about.

  • Here's some little tidbits of information for everyone who, to this day, is STILL complaining about slavery. 1. Africans were originally TRADED or SOLD to Europeans. Not taken by force. Africa had it's own inner slave trade, and on a side note, there were very few countries that didn't have slavery. Rome. The Vikings. Portuguese. Great Britain. Ireland. I studied for two weeks about the Arab Slave trade back in tenth great social studies. Morocco. Saudi Arabia. Afghanistan. Nepal. China. Japan. Korea. Hawaii. New Zealand. Easter island, for Christ's sake. 2. Here's something else: Between the 16th and 19th centuries, between 1 million and 1.25 million Europeans (the pasty pale people that are apparently ugly and dead looking in purple lingerie.) were sold as slaves in North Africa. 3. Zanzibar was east Africa's main slave-shipping port. Not east America, or east Europe, but east Africa.  Here's one thing that really, REALLY irritates me- why are there specific scholarships for blacks, and "minorities", but none for caucasians? And why, when someone finally did attempt to create one, was there such a loud upheaval about it? There are plenty of unfortunate people out there, and not all of them are black or minorities. There are two predominant women in today's society (well, off the top of my head, I mean) that are black, and famous: Oprah and Tyra Banks. Both of them are sporting the straight hair and "white" aspects. Maybe, if the minorities are feeling insecure about it, they should look to the people that can actually have an impact to change. You know, it's one thing if it's an older person, who actually experienced REAL segregation, but if you're in your twenties, or my age, or even your thirties, and you're complaining about what MY ancestors did to YOUR ancestors, give it up. Please.

  • @Mirravin - I will first acknowledge that I made a mistake in my first comment. DearRicky only pointed out minor instances of racism. Well, for starters you seem to be attacking quite the strawman you've set up. I did not say that there is no such thing as anti-white racism. I only said that whites have power and privilege in America that no other race has. The proof of this is everywhere. I'll argue this later. You've attempted to point out a few instances of anti-white racism, although some of these are flawed. So if a certain group of people dislike a certain type of music that is dominated by mostly white people, that's an instance of racism? Perhaps... but I honestly doubt it. That could be a mere distaste in a type of music which coincidentally happens to be played by *mostly* white people. Now, if the same group of people heard, say, rock music played by all black people and liked it JUST for the simple fact that it was played by black people, then that would be a sign of racism. Or, if the same group of people hated certain rap music simply because the rapper(s) is/are white, then that's racism. But while the instance that you have described may be one of racism, I don't think it alone can be merited as such. [Oh, and why are white people concidered ugly if they don't have a tan to appear more darker, that's not racsist either?]Note the misspellings of "considered" and "racist." :P It's a simple preference of appearance. So what if I'm completely revolted by pasty skin? I'm not saying I am, by the way. What if I simply preferred to date black women because I find them very sexy, and more often than not, I choose to date them. It's not "you're inferior because you're black/white," it's a simple preference of appearance. It's not like I'm being oppressed if some woman turns me down because she doesn't personally find me attractive. Furthermore, just because a group of people find pasty skin ugly doesn't necessarily mean that they won't date someone with pasty skin. [Why is it concidered uncool to be white if that's not racsist?]Well, that is racist, but I don't see much evidence of this. Perhaps it's because I don't really pay too much damn attention to popular media that happens to be brainwashing just about everyone in America.[How come you get picked on for wearing certain styles and told "your trying to be black"  what's up with that if not being against a color of some sort?]Sure, that would qualify as racism too. I never said there's no such thing as anti-white racism. [A black and a white have the same grade average, and are trying to get into the same school, the black get's in atomatically without further concideration " so that everyone get's a fair chance"  if the two people had been of the same color there would have been a bit more done than just picking one.  there's nothing wrong with that either right?] First, you're obviously talking about affirmative action, which actually helps level the economic playing field between, say, whites and blacks, giving them more equal opportunities. I use blacks as an example here, but this could apply to say, women. Job and educational discrimination is grounded in sheer prejudice while affirmative action is grounded in inclusion for groups that have been historically discriminated against and are still feeling the results of such discrimination today. Do you not know that blacks overall are much poorer than whites? That whites live longer AND healthier? That more blacks are killed on the streets than whites? That blacks are more likely to be discriminated against than whites in America? So much for "white oppression." [Why were whites discouraged from voteing at all this last election because they were scared of getting marked as a racsist for even showing up regaurdless of who they were voting forhuh?  Is that not a sign of oppresion?]I'd simply like to see evidence of this. I'm not denying this happened. I'd merely like to see evidence. Also, I suggest getting your terms straight. Oppression is the systematic exercise of governmental authority in an unjust manner toward a specific group of people (or perhaps ALL people underneath that government), while racism tends to be most defined as the belief that certain races of people are inherently superior over others. Discrimination is treatment based on, in this instance, someone's race. In other words, it's an act, not merely a belief like racism is. I could be a racist son of a bitch and not discriminate. If I did discriminate on the basis of race, then my discrimination would be racist. You should also consider that all of the examples of anti-white discrimination that you have pointed out PALE in comparison to how many minorities are treated today. For more, see here and  here for starters. A simple Google search may enlighten you :) .

  • @Alyxandri - [And black people are barely a minority. There are almost as many black people in America as white people.]Ahem. See here.

  • @Cuenquita - [Yeah, fashion magazines are more "diverse"than other magazines but take a look at the models, they all have"white" features, large eyes, straight hair, and skinny. These arefeatures you wouldn't actually see from minorities]Good point. Kudos to you.

  • The problem is, we want to think of ourselves as a society that is beyond racism.  But as long as you have laws and customs that specifically recognize race, things are never really going to change.

  • "Affirmative action is also racism and a slap to your own face if you agree as a national minority.  When you agree with the falsities of affirmative action, you also agree that you are inferior intellectually and can only be hired because of your race."Thank you for putting that in. AA is so backwards. Not many people actually think it through, and instead think of it as a free pass for something. You said that wonderfully.Another thing that makes me mad, is that in cultures that claim to be hurting because of the 'white man' they have so much racism in and amongst them selves. The whole black woman trying to look more white makes me sick. Why is it that they cannot accept themselves for their beautiful dark skin and that there has to be such animosity towards lighter skin amongst blacks. Tyra Banks is a great example of this. For a really long time, looking at her, I thought she was white. Nope, she's black. Black with straightened Caucasian hair and contacts. I don't see any celebration of cultural heritage in a woman who has wholeheartedly done her best to look the least black she can. There is nothing wrong with being dark skinned or having african hair. Black women may not be shown as much in magazines and media, but maybe if they saw some more positive role models instead things would be less harsh and more acceptable. The media in itself is a huge assister in hatred. If we don't like a certain type of person, we pretend they are not good enough to be placed on a magazine cover. I see 18-25 years in age, busty, thin, white tanned females with abs- on just about everything aimed to women under the age of 30. This is NOT right. There is more than one characteristic woman. There are sexy bigger women, pretty chinese women, cute mexican women, and tons of other diverse individuals who are both healthy and sexy.

  • the fact that you know who William Wilberforce is....is...HOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • This was very well written! As an Irishman, I have brought up their treatment for years using essentially the same argument you have. You, however, have done a far better job than I ever could. Thank you, I agree with all that you've written. I wish I had more to say, but I really think you have already said it for me.

  • I think I love you now. Seriously! This was perhaps the best post ever and thank you for defending white people. As a human being, I can't tell you how upset I get that people still discriminate. The sad thing is that if we were to turn out the lights, we'd find some other way to discriminate - people with deep voices shouldn't be trusted, or people with high pitched voices are often thieves, as an example. We'd find a way. This is an awesome post, well written, well thought-out and thank you, on behalf of people everywhere. Thank you!

  • You bring up some very good points.  I got called a cracker once, just because I walked past a chubby black girl.  Really, is it necessary?  White people do get racism, unfortunately.  I agree with AibellFaeire.  I can honestly say I have never been racist in my life.  Ever.   However, if a guy from a ghetto walks up to me and starts acting scary around me, I'm probably going to feel uncomfortable, whether he's black or white.  And the unfortunate statistic with that is that the majority of those people are black.   But I don't think that's racism.

  • @Axis_of_Doom - My point being it doesn't seem right to label it as such, why does it have to be label "white people music or Black people music"?  Why would we segregate ourselves if it wasn't some form of racisum?I openly admit my spelling is horrible, you've proven that I can't spell, it proves what? that I'm not good at spelling and you noticed good job.  Other than that it has no reliavance , and yes I know it's spelled wrong and yes I'm too lazy to run it though spell check.  That's admitedly who I am. Bite me.  :P it's a school thing I haven't been too far out of highschool so I still remember who was popular and why.  I could care less what's going on in the media.Oh, and why couldn't they get the two people to take a small test and interview them to see who scores higher?  Isn't that more fair than saying, oh he's white, let the other guy in.Plus, it seem like the majority of people in poverty like it that way!  They don't strive for higher things, they don't care if they have to live on food stamps, and some of them actually rather live on food stamps than on their own!  Lot's of people from all different races actually step above the poverty line and make something of themselves, but it's only because they truly want to.  Well since most blacks get well fair were whites can't, and there are just as many trailer parks filled with white as there are black,  I think it's pretty safe to say that tit's pretty equaled out.  Especial since I came from a poor family so I've seen the evidence with my own eyes. Uh, well since they get heath care before anyone else it's more than likely their own fault. No offence but there are also more blacks out on the street killing each other that has nothing to do with race.  Why becuase a white person isn't going to speak up about it because they are too afraid that they are going to be called racist. It was all over the new for one, and it was all over xanga because countless people blogged about how they were being treated when they voted and how they were treated whn they found out who won the next day, it wasn't americas proudest moment like it should have been.  Racist people screwed that up, and a lot of people couldn't be happy for being discriminated against.Insted of being the most proud moment in America it just prooved how racist America really is.  Personly I don't think Obama desevered that and if I were him I would have been outraged.Furthermore the ingnorent people who look down on minoraties are full of bull to begen with.  That doesn't give them the right to treat the rest of us like dirt!  I'm saying it because I've seen it,  people are more racist than you care to believe.

  • Like you can save the world. :P (just kidding, no offense)

  • @Mirravin - I hate it when Firefox randomly decides to close on me. Oh well. Attempt two: [My point being it doesn't seem right to label it as such, why does it have to be label "white people music or Black people music"?  Why would we segregate ourselves if it wasn't some form of racisum?]It's a mere observation based on the fact that whites dominate the rock scene and blacks dominate the rap scene, and an observation that a certain group of people doesn't like the music. That's all. I don't think this is a very good example of "racisum." :D As for misspelling, it was just an observation. Relax. I will add the caveat that good spelling and grammar help make others take you more seriously. Your sentences flow better and make more sense. It's almost hypnotizing. [Oh, and why couldn't they get the two people to take a small test and interview them to see who scores higher? Isn't that more fair than saying, oh he's white, let the other guy in.]I have at least attempted to address affirmative action already. You would do well to address the arguments instead of merely repeating yourself. [Well since most blacks get well fair were whites can't]Statistically, blacks are poorer than whites, so it would make sense if more blacks got welfare. I tried to do a Google search on this point but I will simply say that this point has been DRILLED into my head over and over again in my various Sociology classes again and again. It's one of the main things you learn if you take a Sociology class on race. [there are just as many trailer parks filled with white as there are black,  I think it's pretty safe to say that tit's pretty equaled out.]What? Are you using this as an argument that blacks have it just as good as whites?! Are you serious? Is this merely a personal observation based on WHERE YOU LIVE or do you have anything at ALL to back this up to mean that there are just as many "black" trailer parks as there are "white" trailer parks in America? There's more to economic equality than merely racial demographics in friggin' trailer parks. Try arguing that blacks are just as likely to graduate college as whites, for instance. Try arguing that blacks go to jail just as much as whites. Maybe then you'll have an actual argument. [Uh, well since they get heath care before anyone else it's more than likely their own fault.]I honestly hope you don't mean "blacks being poor are their own damn fault." Even saying so is to be completely ignorant of our country's history, and how hundreds of years of oppression and racism tend to lead to a certain group of people being poor. [No offence but there are also more blacks out on the street killing each other that has nothing to do with race.]Just saying that blacks tend to have it worse in America due to being economically disadvantaged. And there's even instances of oppression against blacks from police to boot. I would like to see some entries/articles about racism against whites and Barack Obama please. Just because there's blogs about it doesn't mean racism occurred.

  • what is disturbing is people saying they are oppressed."no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."- elanor roosevelt

  • oops. i guess in some cases people ARE oppressed, but certainly no one in this country.

  • Racism is racism and no matter who it is directed towards, it is negative. We should all be defending each other when it comes to racism. I still stand by what I said before. I don't see the mere use of describing someone as pasty or pale as a racist insult. I don't go around calling people either, but it's an observation. Compared to other people, that person's skin doesn't have as much melanin and pigmentation and that isn't a problem. Calling me chocolate or comparing me to a brown crayon isn't racist. If I say someone has a lot of acne or that they're sun burnt, is that racist too? They are just more observations. It isn't enough to just describe people this way for it to be racist, it is only an issue when I'm discriminating. I don't think calling someone frail is racist either. I've only used frail as physically weak. People usually use the term to refer to someone who is sick and is actually physically weak. How is that racism? It's true. I'm not a fan of racist jokes. I don't think any one race is better than another. I don't think white people deserve all of the backlash for things that happened in the past. Yes, my ancestors were slaves, but I'm not going to be racist because of it. That would only make me just as bad as anyone who committed those atrocities. Just because I wasn't alive during slavery doesn't mean I don't sympathize or hurt for everyone who suffered. The past still stirs up some deep emotions for people so yes, some people are still hurt. I don't think whites are the most attacked, but I do think people are more willing to act like nothing is happening. It still isn't right.Affirmative action may be seen as racism now, but when it was first implemented that wasn't the intention. The intention was to level the playing field because so many people were racist and discriminating against black people. If someone of a different race is more qualified than a black person, then by all means, they deserve the job. But if two candidates are equally qualified for the position then some other things need to be taking into consideration and that doesn't include race. Maybe the Chinese people you're referring to do appreciate their culture but other cultures too.All of that and I didn't answer your questions. We're all beautiful.

  • @redressretro - [oops. i guess in some cases people ARE oppressed, but certainly no one in this country]What about gays that can't marry in many states?

  • "Racism will continue to exist as long as the minorities allow it to." As long as we have things like Black History Month, and scholarships for minorities, racism will continue to exist. We must stop defining one another by the color of our skin, but rather by the people themselves. The fact that I'm white is NOT the reason I get high grades and suck at sports (aka nerd lol). The fact that Harriet Tubman was black was NOT the reason she was so great, but rather the fact that she rescued so many slaves. Hitler was a horrible person because he wasd the cause of so much genocide, not because he was white. So how about we all take a step back and look at a person's character, qualities, and talents rather than whether or not they have a tan. Great post.

  • @Axis_of_Doom - affirmative action is a racist act upon itself immpossing the thought that we must give a handicap to certain races because otherwise they wouldn't get in because they don't have what it takes otherwise.  Do you like send the message that the majority is smarter than you so we  need to help you in?  Or vise versa those guys have color so they are more special than you so they get in first.Overal measage is racist however you look at it. plain and simple.I have already tried to state that the reason most Americans are poor is because they don't have the good sense to want more than that or strive for more.  Nothing to do with what race they are.  Slavery and segragation were years ago now everyone is poor. not just one race. I'm not saying that this aplies to all poverty stricken, but it does for most.  To solve the poor proublem you don't accomandate one race and leave the rest in the dust you try to fix the prob with all of them.  Anyone who is poor should get welfair no one should come first! that brings about more racial tenson!  If we want this issue to be resloved ther must be EQUAL treatment.  Oh and I took sociolagy thank you.  I also passed with flying colors too.I'm not saying black have it as good as white I'm saying that they have it better in a lot of ways.  They get accomendation that whites could only hope and pray for.  Again stressing the point that there is no reason to treat anyone diffrent because of this additude right here!  Because eveyone claims to have it so danmed bad and they think everyone else is supposed to fix it for them, when they have the ability to help themselves.Oh, and I'm not compairing it to my own hometown and where I live because if I did then I'd say that only white people are poor and black people are all rolling in foodstamps and weed money, but I didn't do that did I?Oh and I was saying that it's their own fault for not getting figen medical help when all they have to do is sign up for medicaid!  they don't even have to be below the pov levle just on the line, if yur on the line and white you have to be figen pregnent to get it, and it only lasts for as long as yur pregnent.  Our own gov discrimnates once again.  If you have the means to good health and don't use them it's your own frigen fault!Oh, and I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure I do have the whole thing with Obama somewhere in my reconmendations.  wait I do it's called the blogg I've been afraid to write.  It's the only one of many I actully thought to put in my reconmendations.  Plus I've indeed witnessed this for myself because I was one of those people who rather not vote than have to deal with people asking me to see if I was "racist" or not.

  • at this time i should be getting ready for work so i dont have time to say everything i want to... but basically my input is "golf clap"THANK YOU FOR WORDING IT AS I COULD NOT!

  • Thank you for this.  I live in an area where I am the minority- the token white girl, if you will.  And I get the same kind of treatment from my neighbors with darker skin that they get in areas where most of the people have white skin.  Treating ANYONE as anything less than a human being with the dignity belonging to them as such- I don't care if they're PURPLE- is stupid.  I always held that opinion before I moved here, and I've moved from firm to almost rabid on that position, so I won't really get started, lest my reply rival the OP in vehemence and length...Kudos."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." Elanor Roosevelt

  • I am not racist and frankly I am getting tired of all the racial crap that is still going on and will be going on forever. I don't like however when I see (mainly men) who tan to get darker, dress like a hip hop gangsta rapper, have gold or platnum teeth showing, and is listening to rap music, but the minute some one black looks at them they damn near run into a tree trying to escape. WTF? you want to mimic a black person but still have nothing to do with them?. I had a white woman with a mixed child ask me bluntly how long was it before my child ( who does look mixed but is not) would sit still for me to comb her hair.....Umm hello she is my child she got her hair combed on a daily basis.she then proceeded to tell me about  Her daughter   and how only her black friends can comb her hair good. To me that just made her seem like a bad mother. Dating outside your race should be for love and not a trophy. I see nothing wrong with any race doing something because they like it, but not because they think they have to fit in or to avoid being called something they are not.A racist is someone who  continues to call another out by skin color . It will continue because they are teaching there kids to be that way. It has nothing to do with a holiday or minorities some of you need to do more research.

  • I see a lot more racism going the other way. Especially on TV. And frankly if minorities are "allowed" to be racist then why is it that white people are suddenly the bad guys. Yes there are still skin heads out there, and Nazis, and other groups of white suppremists. And most of them will go so far as to kill anyone else, but it's the opposite in many areas. The thing I hate is that you can watch Comedy Central and a lot of times all you hear is cracker this and cracker that. Racism. But if a white peroson drops 1 n-bomb with exception of George Carlin lol, he's immediately the spawn of satan. Yes it's sad that some racism towards minorities still exists, but most of the country are really decent people and it's not an issue. And if you look at the rest of the world they are infinitely more racist than America is, but since we are obsessed with these liberal ideals it actually becomes a subject of dispute here. And it's not like any other race in existance hasn't been enslaved before. Yes what happened to you was more recent and should not have been done, and yes there are a lot of people around from the civil rights movement, but I didn't do that to you so please stop being so angry about it. The sooner you move on the sooner we can put this issue behind us. But there will always be those people on both sides that will never comply and will be arrogant to the grave and ruin it for the rest of us that are trying to be decent people.

  • Nothing wrong with being called chocolate.

  • The dangers of white oppression remaining hidden?  Perpetuation of the stereotypes, I guess.

  • I love this post! Too much to be said in a short paragraph..However, I must say...  I'm sick of people acting like i owe them something and I should lick dirt..Frankly, arse-holes, A very large quantity of my ancestors on both sides actually spent every penny, to the point of debt solely to set free, and/or send Africans home...Pretending every white person was a wicked slave owner back in time.. What the hell does that have to do with their grandchildren? Are we to pay for what they did? Does that make it right? It changes nothing. That's what pisses me off immensely about the way that people treat white German men. They have nothing to do with what happened in the past, and I have found far less of them to be racist, than I ever have african americans(especially in St. Louis) and american indians(I attended an all Navajo school, and it was immensely racist even in the early gradeschool). I think black, brown, white etc. are all beautiful tones, their individual ancestry, culture etc. is truly interesting. I won't be ashamed of my culture, or my skin, and I sincerely hope you won't. And yes, I happen to like being pale(I am naturally, so it makes sense), however not all pale people are pasty or sickly either...I'm just ..white. Asians and caucasians should be proud. And they have a right to enjoy the lilly-like tissue that covers what we all have, even if we only rarely show it..a human heart. I could have explained this better, but I'm actually quite tired despite the earliness here. thank you DearRicky, for posting this. :)

  • this was a really awesome blog, props to you for writing it.  it took guts.

  • People are always going to take this concept the wrong way.  Regardless of how much you could possibly justify these truths, many people are simply too ignorant to consider them.  That's our prognosis with racism/equality and it will always exist.  Until we stop teaching ignorance to kids via the education system and religion, we can't say this kind of shit to people.  This is hard for me to accept because I'm with you on this and it's been something that I've always wanted people to understand.  How do we change closed minds?  By what means can we open them?  Is it even possible?-Z.Watson

  • @camunderwater - Try reading more than a couple lines, you cunt.  You're missing the whole point.

  • @redressretro - "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."- elanor rooseveltThat statement is simply dissmissive.

  • @youcomebeforeyou - mmm oh go fuck yourself. i'm not a cunt, i don't look like female genitalia. i actually uploaded a picture of myself unlike some of us creepers? go to hell or better yet go outside. you're taking this way too seriously to get THAT offended. i just personally feel like this person is constantly calling out racism INTENSELY via 2 races. why don't you put up a descent argument instead of calling me names? what are you? 30 something going on 13?

  • @Chinese_Sait0u - I truly hope you do not believe that, if you think everyone having their turn at racism is the answer, you are seriously disillusioned.  I am going to say that your comment was an attempt at humor, so I can sleep tonight...:: dante

  • @Mirravin - Use spell-check for Christ's sake. It's making my eyes bleed. On affirmative action, consider:- I think I may have argued this before, but job discrimination is grounded in prejudice, while affirmative action is an effort to overcome prejudicial treatment through inclusion. To make a comparison, what's the best way to restore a body who's system is out of balance? Give it vitamin supplements. What's the best way to conquer discrimination in the workplace, in the schools, etc., and help, say, African Americans get on a level playing field with whites? Affirmative action, unless you have a better way. There's a difference between not including a group out of simple prejudice and trying to make sure that discrimination simply doesn't happen. -Furthermore, if you follow this link (which I linked to earlier), you will see that what you seem to be saying, i.e: that AA lowers the self-esteem of women and minorities, goes completely against the data given. See Myth 8. -Blacks have it way worse than whites. What kind of sociology classes did you take? Did you take any on race and ethnicity? If you did, I'm surprised you didn't learn this. It got pounded in my head constantly. -Further, it advances a multi-dimensional workplace by encouraging pluralism and diversity, not giving preference to one single group. Doing so lets minorities be role-models for minority students, encouraging them to follow their dreams. -There's a difference between goals and quotas. See here and scroll down just a wee bit. [Nothing to do with what race they are.  Slavery and segragation were years ago now everyone is poor. not just one race.]The data I've learned about in the past three years would suggest otherwise. Consider this:-Any group discriminated against will be poor (I want to see if you disagree with this, lol). We both know that blacks were more heavily discriminated against than they are now... or at the very least, governmental oppression was extremely rampant. No need to elaborate on that. -Any poor people that reproduce will most likely reproduce more poor people.-Therefore, blacks are, on average, poorer today. [Anyone who is poor should get welfair no one should come first!]I have already stated that since blacks are poorer on average, they are more likely to get welfare.[I'm not saying black have it as good as white I'm saying that they have it better in a lot of ways.]Like?[To solve the poor proublem you don't accomandate one race and leave the rest in the dust you try to fix the prob with all of them.]You seem to be attacking another straw-man. I'm not saying "leave the white folks in the dust and don't help them whatsoever." [Oh, and I'm not compairing it to my own hometown and where I live because if I did then I'd say that only white people are poor and black people are all rolling in foodstamps and weed money, but I didn't do that did I?]I really don't see your point then. There is no argument whatsoever in here. Furthermore, I got that impression when you said that there are just as many "black" trailer parks as there are "white" ones. Lol. [Oh and I was saying that it's their own fault for not getting figen medical help when all they have to do is sign up for medicaid!]*Sigh* I've asked this before, and I'll ask again. Is this a PERSONAL observation or does this happen all across America? If it's the latter, I'd like to see some evidence. [Oh, and I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure I do have the whole thing with Obama somewhere in my reconmendations. wait I do it's called the blogg I've been afraid to write.]Please. Relax. I simply asked for some blogs to read about the subject as politely as I could.

  • i'd have to go with yo(bud)da on this one ricky, 'fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.'you o.k.?

  • About the pale, pasty, and frail comment on The Big Bang Theory. He called him pale, pasty, and frail not because he is caucasian, but because he IS pale, pasty, and frail. Pale and pasty because he stays indoors most of the time, and frail because he never works out! I do agree that a many white people in the United States are discriminated against. However, those ARE NOT racist words! Asian people can be pale and maybe pasty and maybe even frail if they don't work out, and yes, I do know several. Would calling them so be considered racism, or not because they're not Caucasian?Maybe I'm just annoyed because I think pale is gorgeous and don't think it's an insult at all.

  • @haloed - Do you have proof that you are denied discounts on account of being white?  If you do, that sucks, but I still don't believe that you being forced to spend a few extra cents is proof of the oppression the caucasian race is experiencing.  Oppression is a big word with big connotations.  You complain about comedians making racy jokes at the expense of caucasians yet seem to ignore the fact that comedians make fun of everyone.  Tell me, do you laugh along when they make fun of other races because that doesn't affect you personally?  Are caucasians above being ridiculed while everyone else is fair game?  As I said before, a few racy jokes do not an oppressed people make.

  • I don't think it really matters if people prefer one race as opposed to another. But people do need to be more considerate when judging others out in the open. We need to learn to respect and understand. What comes around goes around.

  • Racism is a cheap laugh, which makes it worse. People play off stereotypes, which shows a lack of creativity as a human.

  • That's pretty impressive. But as one of those who have been picked on by racists for a few times(here in Perth. Most Aussie whites are racists against Chinese. But I don't understand why they always go to Chinese restaurants if they hate us so much.), I don't feel that much of a need to defend those white bullies when they were picked on by other cultures. They are having a taste of their own medicine. I am happy that the world is quite fair about this. When you pick on someone, you are expecting people to do that onto you in the future. It's just a matter of time that will happen to u. It's just like setting up a new world record. You think you have beaten everyone up with your ability at this time and you are the king of the world. I would say, "You just wait." There's definitely someone in the future who will beat the crap out of u to set a higher record.I never and will not ever pick on people who "looks" inferior to me. But I will hold my ground if I were picked on by those bullies. I believe a lot of people who are not native to a piece of land will share the same idea: We love to make peace. But we will defend ourselves when wars are raged against us.

  • Just for a little bit of social work.Prejudice is always an attitude or a set of beliefs and values, but never an act.Discrimination is always an act. Oppression is the same as discrimination.Prejudice is one of those "ugly" words that people tend to avoid and instead use "bias". Everyone has some form of prejudice whether or not they realize it. It is something that is taught through families, media, and any other part of society.Discrimination and oppression are one and the same. Both are used to put down, push aside, or get rid of a particular group from another group that wants to be, and believes, they are superior. We do this by "dehumanizing" the oppressed group. For example, Hitler and the Nazi's dehumanized those of Jewish descent (as well as many others) which meant they saw them as lower, as animals, as nothing, instead of as equals deserving of the same rights and considerations. Thanks for this post! Racism, in any form, is unacceptable and degrading.

  • @Alyxandri - It's sad that most people seem to be under the impression that every white person owned slaves. Only the rich owned slaves. They were the only ones who could afford it!

  • I could not have said that better myself. Word for word it covered pretty much everything I would have said on the subject. And did anyone else notice that some people just copy and pasted their responses from the last blog? lol

  • Fabulous post.... very well-written. I usually feel like skin is insignificant but when I notice the self-tanner sitting in my bathroom and think about the skin-lightening cream in my friend's bathroom it's a shame. Why do we always want what we can't have?

  • How true. I could elaborate; but I'm exhausted mentally and physically. But to be short: I was the subject of racism at the hands of a black supervisor at one of my jobs.Racism sucks; and does anyone who supports racism. Though racist jokes are still hilarious.

  • everyone should be free to be who they are without prejudice, yes. But the past is still full of white oppression. My fathers generation still hurts from it so it is hard for me not to be wary of  folks who think they have right to put me down for my heritage.

  • I think that if it continues, whites may see some antagonism coming their way. Jokes will lead to insults. Insults will lead to hazing. Hazing will lead to confrontation, violence, etc.

  • I guess it's a good thing to point out that it's a two way street. However are there really dangers into letting it go unnoticed? It's just how our society is. Racism will probably always exist and what's it to me to be called pasty or a cracker? Really, it could be much worse. This did make me happy though, I feel a little less pathetic having to buy spf 60 because the other stuff isn't strong enough :)

  • @camunderwater - 21 going on 22 I suppose.  I'm not sure what you meant by your comment.  Tell me about the racism between Jews and Chinks.  I apologize you got so offended by my C-word, and yes, physically you are not that.  I guess I meant it as a metaphor of some sort.  Creeper, faux 30 year old, sure.  Check my blog man.  I got pics if you need proof.  You don't need to worry about any cyber-sexual advances on my behalf.Peace and Power to Discussion

  • Thank You! :) you really have quite a gift with explaining your view and it's great to read this.i was talking to a friend of mine and a class mate went up to her after a presentation and said something along the lines of "wow, you look like total crap, are you feeling ok? you look really ill?"she simply replied... "no, i'm fine.... this is just my skin tone"she thought perhaps the lighting may have made her fair skin a little "off color", i know myself personally, i do tend to reflect lighting color sometimes... (my mom has asked me if i'm feeling ok because i had looked very flushed, i simply was reflecting the red in my shirt! lol)also, what's your thoughts on inter racial dating?what about biracial children?i've had strangers comment on my son's "tan" and when i inform them that his father is indian, you can see the look of discomfort as they realize they just put their foot in their mouth. (i personally don't find it offensive depending on their tone and how they react when i tell them, i know it wasn't their intention to be rude)

  • This is all very sad to me. People are upset about how the other people are supposedly treating them.  Seeing people upset at others for comments they make, actions, whatever, just seems to throw us in the same cycle. Calling people racists doesn't make them stop and think, it makes them defensive. So, they throw back in your face what racist things your people have done. When are we going to let things go? There is racism, yes, but pointing fingers gets us nowhere. Getting angry just gets us angry...and may get others angry too. But, we need to learn to focus on ourselves and change ourselves. It starts with one. Don't allow your friends to say ignorant things about others while around you. But, don't berate them. Counter the critism with something positve about those type of people. Stop yourself from thinking nasty things about a particular race. It's amazing how the thinking changes with the people around us when we handle things in a postive way. As long as we keep beating each other over the head over how racist the world is, it won't change.

  • I think you said it all with the "Two wrongs don't make a right" thing. We are all beautiful creatures. Let's start treating each other as such.

  • Super post! I really do agree with you. Racism has become out of control. I am a white female, and when I say white...I mean I am 1/2 Polish..We get just as much flac as anyone else. Racism against anyone hurts me, I am the most un-racist person. I have stood up to alot of people that seem to spit out racial slurs like it is the air they breath...I have mixed sisters and I have been apart of bi-racial relationships, it isn't easy. Why can't everyone just realize that it is a great thing to be unique and different, that is who we are, and we shouldn't change that because someone else doesn't like it.

  • When you name phenomena, they self-perpetuate. If you are offended by white oppression, quit oppressing. Quit being oppressed. Call it out when you see it. -But quit talking about it-People are inclined to perceive situations in a way that best forms to the way their mind is processing things at that moment. It's called priming. For instance, if a woman sees an attractive man and is sexually interested in him, if an average looking man comes along right after him, she will be more inclined to be sexually attracted to him. With regards to this topic in particular, I feel like you are creating problems where there are none. Instead of priming people with hatred and separation, perhaps you should try love and co-operation. Just my two cents :) -LindsayP.S. I feel like you also might benefit from doing a bit of research into what real oppression looks like. Liberia is a good starting place.

  • I find it sad that the west has been so open to the experiment of multiculturalism, yet westerners of European descent still get most of the hate. I don't  think I should have to hide the fact that I would prefer to marry someone of my own ethnic makeup for fear of being called a racist or a bigot. Such words are counter-productive & just deepen the resent. When people attack the physical traits of caucasians, I can't help but feel confused. Isn't it black men who prefer lighter-skinned black women? Isn't it India that has made a multi-million dollar business from selling skin lightening products? I may be wrong, correct me if I am, but isn't fair skin also treasured in northeast asia?

  • I think all kinds of racism are the same, regardless to what race it's directed to. So, people in the world, don't get your small intestines in a knot arguing "racism against *whatever race you are talking about*" D:

  • "As far as the Chinese are concerned, no, you are neither a “chigga” nora “gangsta.”  Stop jumping around like a bunch of idiots!  You haveyour own culture to appreciate.  Learn kung fu and remember thatmachine guns have nothing on you!"I'd like to think that there is more to Chinese culture than Kung fu.I get what you're trying to say, but really?  It sounds like you're telling them that in order to be in touch with their cultural roots, they should embrace technological deficiency because of Kung fu (which is of course, only one of many styles of martial arts originating from China).  Chris Rock bashes white people, but he bashes "niggas" too.  Russell Peters is a hit (with Asians!) because he hits home with all the Asian jokes across the board.  They make fun of everyone, really. Also, I would hardly call whites"oppressed."  They are subject to racism, but I hardly think they areat a disadvantage within the United States.  Now, a white man trying tolive in Korea?  That's a totally different story

  • I've been meaning to write about this for years now. I don't know how many times I've heard, "______ because I'm black/Latin/Asian/etc. you dumbass cracka/white girl!" I've blown up about it a couple times, it's nonsensical reactions like that that only reinforce those negative stereotypes! You wanna talk racism? I grew up in Hawai'i, and I was the only white girl in school, let alone the only Jew. Having my entire 4th grade class tell me that I'm going to hell because I don't believe in a "real" god isn't racist because I'm white? Being yelled at for enslaving you great-great-great-whatever grandparents when I'm only 3nd generation American isn't racist because I'm white? Well excuse ME for getting my definitions wrong.

  • I don't think there is anything I can add to what you said.  I think you nailed all the points I might have made, and probably argued them much better than I could.

  • Nice one Ricky. What you said is true, sadly. Being a white person these days can have disadvantages - depending on where you are and what other types make up the area. Even a fucking redneck like myself gets sick and tired of racism. It's been going on for thousands of years and probably will continue unless they find a way to cure it. Maybe someone will find the gene or some component in our DNA and design a way to remove it from all people - probably around the same day we're able to travel at the speed of light - warp speed Mr. Worf.  Engage. ------------------------------------------  ----------------------------------------------------Stevie T

  • @RicanConfessions - Ever see those old movies - a big boiling pot with a couple of explorers tied up in it, being made into stew? A hundred African guys dancing around a big pot, boiling up a fresh kettle of soup - another couple of white men would be hanging by their heels from a tree for the next batch. All this racism talk is making me crazy. I wonder what would happen if someone aired one of those old movies today? Probably start a riot. On the other hand, it was OK to boil a black guy - in the movie "Roots" for trying to escape. Now there's discrimination!  heheheheheheeh

  • @Lesabre500 - "Ever see those old movies - a big boiling pot with a couple of explorers tied up in it, being made into stew?"No.

  • Excellent post. If Blacks can be proud of their race, Asians can be proud of theirs, and jews can be proud of theirs, why is it racist to say that you have White Pride? When Blacks do it, it's called Pride. When Asians do it, it's called Respect. When jews do it, it's called Tradition. When Whites do it, it's called Racism.Nothing wrong with being White. I love my race, I love my heritage, and I love my people.Doesn't make me racist.

  • today my dear insightful Ricky, this one will not only write to you from the perspetive of the wolf who lives in her heart, this one will write as the woman in whom the wolf heart resides. To begin from a scientific viewpoint:  this one belives that a certain amount of racisim is natural. Consider that we all have evloved with minute  adaptational differences (such as the shape of the eye, the standard size and build, skin color, type of hair, etc.) due to the areas in which our ancestors chose to make their homes. it is lie the difference between a grey wolf, and an artic wolf. Both are wolves, but they are slightly different to adapt to their surroundings, one residing in the frozen tundra, the other great forests. All humans must compete for the same resources... food water, shelter. in each ecosystem there are varieties of these resources and each of the different tribes of man has adapted thusly to manipulate these. but when the different peoples reside too close to gether and are forced to  compete for these same resources..... this one thinks that racisim may be in a very small part  of the brain that most people never  consciously  access.   If two wolf packs  share the same territorial boundrey, and the one population of rabbit is being slightly overhunted due to the unusually large amount of preditors in the area, these wolves will fight quite often in a battle to secure the most resources, and ensure the survial of their own strain of DNA.  In the past perhaps our crow magnon ancestors went through this with the neaderthals, one theory is that the competition for resources was so severe that the crowmagnons drove the neanderthols to extinction. Consider the early american colonists and the native american's battle for territory. There, I have analyzed  it. now I will speak as a woman. On my mother's side of the family, there is  Cheyenne. On my fathers side of the family, German and Chinese. I am a 24 yr old "white" female, and I am married to an african american.I live in a small city and sometimes it can be quite unconforable  doing the most normal things together.  In the end  I do not allow it to  get to me too much because I know that our love is stronger than what most people posting here have come to dub "ignorance" I think that if we all remembered that we are all living things, on the same planet, that every human race is human, that we all think and feel and  go through silmilar things in our lives,  and we will all die the same,  I think that we could over come this battle for resources   through a newfound unity.please continue to inspire this one with your wise posts.

  • @Axis_of_Doom - really could i get a picture of that?  Funny it's a perfectly human flaw yet it seems to bug people so much.  You know I thought that was the very thing we are trying to get rid ofin this country don't you think?  As americans we should be worriedabout who does better!  Not what color they need to even things out!that's just a big pile of gwano and you know it!It's like that news story I just watched the other day.  A group of firefighters are suing the system because they had their tests thrown out because they wanted a black man to fill the position they were after, and they scored higher than the black guys running for the same position.  How exactly is that fair now?  If everyone has an equal chance of getting a job here in America then why did those test get thrown out?  Why does the job not go to the most qualified man not put up for the job?  I say if you want a black fire department captain find one that scores higher than the other guys.  Just tossing the aside like that isn't fair at all.  That IS RACIST! oh and it's all the work of your wonderful AA you think so much of.You know what, you're right, it gives them instead, a sence of entitlement.  Everyone thinks they're just supposed to have everything handed to them, and why not it's all they've ever known? What because they hire one race before the other?  Again I don't think mixing it up is enough reason to hold one higher than the other.  It gives people the excuse not to really try becuase they know they don't have to.  They'll always get the job just because they have the "skin" for the job?You rather teach lazy dependacy than teach people to work for themselves?  Just so that we can keep everything all evened up?  You know if you can't do the job better that the next guy You don't deserve the job more than him.  It's as simple as that.  We need higher standers than just making sure we have a mix of things.  Make these people work for what they get like normal people should.Oh, and these wonderful links arn't even gov offical their from some pickish collage website.  You want to turn peoples heads, sway opinions?  Don't bring me a link of some stupid stuck up collage that did a few survays and think they've got the whole damn thing figured out. Those are just thier own personal opinions, and may or may not hold any real facts.Furthermore, Medicaid is offered to anyone who meets the requirements that's just a plain and simple fact.  It's something that the gov inforces so yes, it's all across the U.S.  Because the gov made it that way duh.And this last bit is my personal input because I've witnessed it on more than one ocasion, the conversation of people braggin about how they love their foodstamps because then they can spend their own money on things they want like shiny spinning rims and long gold chains instead of using it on food.  Doesn't sound to me like someone who's having a worser time than anyone else.  Oh, it sound to me like they're doing a bit better. that suggest that these so called poor people like being poor though wouldn't it?  So who's fault is that exactly?  After all why would they want to not be poor when they already get anything they want?  Which means it's no ones fault but their own for being poor in the first place now isn't it?You know at least I've seen this stuff with my own eyes instead of just pulling it out of some random website.  Go see what I see, see what countless others see.  Look at the world with your own eyes.  The truth is out there.

  • Racism is lame. Pretty sure I've said this before some where, but I believe that just because someone is a certain colour, gender, or age they should not be generalized. People should be looked at as a single person. It is hard to do that because people allow themselves to become the stereotype. Example [and I am not racist. I like people of all races]: I live behind a co-op complex, meaning taxes pay for most of their rent. The back of the complexes face the back of my house. The people are usually fine and they stay to themselves. At one point a Black family moved into one of the complexes right behind my house. They had about 6 kids and they were always yelling and swearing and going on the roofs of other peoples houses beside them. Then everyone on my street started missing their things, and their cars and houses were getting broken into. The police saw the suspects breaking into a car once and chased them to their house. It was the black family. They acted exactly as the bad stereotypes tell them to. It was quite sad. Once they were given a warning, because they were minors, the family left. If we didn't have the stereotypes do you think this would of happened? And as I said before I am not racist. This was a true story and I do not hold the fact that my dad's truck got broken into and there was $500 worth of damage done to it, against black people. I hold it against just those kids.

  • I think everybody just needs to except each other, regardless of colour etc. I mean, I still get some stick from ignorant people who challenge me because of my hair colour, am a redhead, but I just brush it off, it's their prerogative if they want to take the mickey, but I think, living in the UK, we're wuite multi-cultural, although there is still racism here. Good post though.

  • I have no problem with black people. My best friend is black. I've even been HIGHLY attracted to a few black women. Now that's really no big deal. A white guy finding black people to be okay? Tis a good thing! But to me - and I'm the one saying this - it still feels awkward because I have lived most my life around white people. That's just how things have been and I've had very little control over that. The highest black-populated area I've lived in was Indianapolis. My job at a movie theater was predominately black. The ONLY time I've ever really felt like I was the odd white man was when I didn't know how to talk about a matter related to the identity of black people as black people. Meaning, I didn't know how to address a matter that I was concerned might accidentally offend someone who's black. I want to just be able to talk with them as comfortably about things that might be (stereotypically) a black thing, whatever that might be, and joke and hang out as if they were just any other person...and they ARE!And to top it off, I don't know which black person is feeling the discrimination more compared to another. I don't want to be insensitive. The fight of segregation that MLK, Jr fought to END is a victorious battle, but it still carries aftershocks, and I at least want it to be known: I'm a white man who still feels the shame of the sins of my white ancestors.I don't know...maybe I'm accidentally continuing the problem. I mean well, but maybe I'm thinking too much about it. The more I focus on the problem, the more I'm likely to make the same mistake (that's a Bilical truth, too...I wrote a sermon about it for my youth group years ago). I suppose I "suffer" from ignorance about who your average black person is in a personal way. Even my best friend, who's black, still seems otherwise because he actually lives on the other side of the country... We've never met - he's my buddy from a Chistian chat room. So that up-front experience I have with black people is limited.Sometimes I wonder if I'm just perpetuating the problem I mean to help stop.

  • yep, racism is racismno matter who it is directed towards_esther

  • A very good post this. You made a lot of good points here.

  • @Alyxandri - ...what makes you say that there are almost as many black people in America as white people? As of 2006, not including biracial persons,Whites: 221.3 million (74% of population)Hispanic or Latino, 44.3 million (14.8%)Black or African American, 40.9 million (13.4%)Asian, 13.1 million (4.4%)

  • white people opressed? LMFAO.

  • @de_Stille_een - he or she is probably from a city. here in nyc i think it looks almost equal. but nyc does not represent the rest of the country

  • Chris Rock makes fun of people of all races... not just whites... I think its unfair to say that he's guilty of making it one way...

  • but I think you make a damn good point nonetheless...

  • LOL@ "learn kung fu" You made a lot of good points and some really worth thinking over.  I have often pointed out (as you have written) the "whiteness" of black actresses through the presentation of their hair.  It is true that most very successful black actresses imitate "white" hair by having it straightened or relaxed to decrease it's natural form.  Often we will see women who are wearing natural hair on tv or movies to speak with a particular accent or broken english or shake certain body parts more than others (i.e. head, finger snapping, etc.).  I think, on a subliminal level, it sends the wrong message and frankly, we can't afford to do that.  It is tough enough growing up in a society that puts so many unnatural pressures on young women and now to have such a statement thrown out there with such ease is irresponsible.

  • Yes, reverse racism does not exist. Its just racism, plain and simple. Racism means to discriminate against people because of their heritage, ethnicity, skin color, etc. (At least this is how I see it as). I love your posts. From the way I see it, most people notice racism when it is directed towards a minority, but when it is towards Caucasians, most people I know don't even recognize it. But I don't think that White people are being oppressed, since, Whites are still largely in power.

  • "When you agree with the falsities of affirmative action, you also agreethat you are inferior intellectually and can only be hired because ofyour race."Or I agree that minorities are at a disadvantage due to policies put in place by an all white government, and this is one way that they ( the government) can try to mend their mistakes.

  • @MysteriumFidei - It's called racism, because it is most commonly heard in a racist way.  It is said by racist people in a manner that suggest that they are superior to other races.   It makes sense for a formerly oppressed people to show pride in their heritage.  If you want to be proud of something, be proud of the country you live in, or the country you trace your family ties to.  No one cares when Irish people are proud to be Irish.  You should be fine that way.For the record I think this whole conversation lowered my I.Q.

  • @BlazingNegro2007 - "It's called racism, because it is most commonly heard in a racist way."OK, it's good to know that my belief in the racist, anti-White double standard is real. Everyone else can be proud of his race except Whites.

  • Great Post. If the slave trade is to be brought up to justify the oppression/insult of white people then perhaps it would be worth bringing up the 1 million or so Europeans enslaves by the Barbary Pirates of North Africa or the up to 5 millions European Slavs enslaved by the Ottomans (admittedly being a Janissary is a lot different and more prestigious than being a plantation slave). In others words the Slave trade was not just limited to Whites enslaving blacks it goes both ways...

  • Some people are extremely insensitive and uncaring to how the opposite side of any argument, quarrel or feud may feel. I clearly understand how they may feel and agree with what you have to say. I'm not trying to be rude at all, but in today's culture, normal sized black and latina women are usually considered beautiful, while Caucasian women usually have to be as skinny as a hair and blond to count. It's all so sickening that I wonder how the Caucasian women that agree with this foolish belief live with themselves.

  • It kinda bothers me when people say "whites are still in power." There is no collective group of whites that gets together and decides things before splitting up into their respective occupations to carry out their racial duties. The truth is that there are people in power, and a lot of them are white. But you could just as easily say blacks are in power, because there are people in power, and some of them are black. That's stereotyping in itself.I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH THIS POST. KUDOS.

  • @NaitoOfNarnia - I think feeling shame for what someone else did is what may be perpetuating the problem... you didn't do anything wrong, and you seem to be very accepting and tolerant of others so you're doing very well! :) Don't feel bad just because someone who has your skin color once did something bad. It is completely unrelated to you and you don't need to be born into guilt, because guilt should come from wrongdoing, not genetics.

  • I recall seeing a commercial for a TV show where a black guy goes and visits an old white guy's farm to discuss the fact that the white guy's ancestors owned the black guy's ancestors. It sounded a little accusatory, with the dramatic music that all reality shows tend to have and everything. What did the white guy do wrong? Couldn't they both leave well enough alone? They seemed happy enough without confronting it....

  • Excellent post.

  • @MysteriumFidei - I don't mean when someone says that they are proud to be white that it is always racist.  I am saying that where I live (rural Pennsylvania) I KNOW based on my personal knowledge of the people that I hear say that phrase, that they intend on demeaning other races.  They say things like "I sure am glad that I'm white.  I'd have to f***ing kill myself if I was a porch monkey!"   The people I hear say "white pride" are the same ones that call me a nigger when I'm walking to youth group.  Honestly, appart from those people, I have never heard someone say that they were proud of being white.  That isn't a double standard, that is life experience.  You CAN say it without being racist, and assuming you are saying it without demeaning other people, you aren't being racist.

  • @Sirius_Fan_Girl - To make a television show.  A controversial and dramatic television show at that... that makes money, and money is what they want.

  • @Sirius_Fan_Girl - I think people say the whole "whites are in power" thing because of the majority factor.  Like when there are more Democrats than Republicans in the House of Reps.  If the Dems have a majority one might say that they are "in power"  By the way I feel it is erroneous to say that "whites are in power" because it implies that white people are plotting against minorities or something, which clearly isn't the case.

  • I might consider what you have to say about racism if you didn't exhibit racism in this post. I don't think it is even slightly appropriate for you to tell Chinese people to go learn kung-fu.  THAT is a stereotype, and THAT is racism.  I don't care if you are Chinese.  I wouldn't tell my black brother (literally he is my blood brother) to stop listening to Tchaikovsky, and pick up some T-Pain because rap is "his" kind of music.

  • It's amazing how I've been thinking about this post so much, for a couple of days! I keep mulling over it. My opinion, too. I have been hurt by people of other races. I got a job through affirmative action because I'm a woman, then I was tormented by the black people I worked with. But on the whole, I don't think the white race needs to be defended. Individuals, yes. As far as who opresses, I know that black, hispanic and asian people are kept out of jobs, living places, and on and on by white management in Atlanta and Seattle. They're not considered as decorative. White people on the whole, in my opinion, are not so much racist, it's just things about other races don't cross their mind or interfere with their day, really. It's like "What, hunh?" it's like a british girl I know said when I complained about how badly I was treated in england. She said "Well, yeah but how do americans feel about british people?" I said that the truth was british people don't even cross their mind. Who cares about british people. You have to understand that we non-racist whites are privy to the racist conversations and attitudes of whites all the time. They assume we'll agree or tolerate it because we're white. Sometimes I blow it off, sometimes I say something. I defend Asians, I'm sure I'll get my grade lowered for defending a black guy in class, etc. I date Asian men and I get dirty looks from people. One of my FRIENDS who is German said "I can't even imagine what those people are like in bed." I kept quiet because it was so profoundly rude, what's the point? So, I think defending white people goes on a case by case basis, sort of like: on the whole, men hate cats. LOL. And there are some cats that are great and I defend those cats, but some cats are just dicks.

  • This is certainly true. And I think the attitude like that creates more racism. Such as the British concept of "Nanny state" and being "PC" being widespread. And going so far that the feeling imbued is one of the white "natives" being stereotyped as racist. Which leads to a large number of racist remarks and assumptions. Also the instilled fear in white people of being accused of racism makes makes large groups of people afraid of coloured people.Or so it seems to me.

  • @BlazingNegro2007 - This is kind of off topic but... T-Pain isn't a rapper, not in my book anyway. He's more of a wannabe r&b artist & hook-singer lol.

  • I actually agree with most of this entry, apart from your stereotyping of other chinese people & white people. Let people dress and act the way they want, music genres aren't segregated. Also ["Too wrongs don’t make a right"], it's "Two"...not "Too".

  • Coming from boththis post and the previous, part of the reason for the "white girls aren't as pretty" attitude may becoming from a subconscious defense mechanism. Not to say that it is right, butthat it is there. For the most part, white people tend to be more prominent in media (that I am exposed to), and there is very little mixing of different cultures, unless it's different white subcultures.Just another aspect to add to the puzzle that makes up the big picture. And a video to conclude: A Girl Like MeJust food for thought, enjoy!

  • The part about affirmative action hit me the hardest!I did my senior project on affirmative action, stated the facts, pros & cons, and my conclusion: it's wrong!I hate the fact that when I checked off the box Asian on my application, people "have the right" to say that I only got accepted to the universities because they needed to "fill their quotas."But why should I have to check "other" in order to not have ppl think I'm just a quota-filler?  And why the eff did I get in and you didn't when you're a minority also?I always hated the term "reverse racism" and I never did understood it.  There is only racism or the absence of it.Very well written Ricky!  I'm now a loyal reader!

  • Chris Rock has always offended me for that very reason.  Props to you for saying something about this, and for being brave enough to take the crap that is sure to come your way from anyone who disagrees.

  • You are SO smart.Goddamn it. I want just ONE OUNCE of your brain - just ONE OUNCE.  Jeeze.  Is it for sale?  Will trade.  But I'm not sure if you want to be a messed-up 20 year old FEMALE from Florida.Damn.

  • I'm English and i have never experienced racism personally. I've never given it either since i dont even understand the mentality to judge someone by their skin colour.

  • I'm not offended by racism toward whites in comedy because i am proud to be white, and it serves for comedy purpose, and often the generalisations are so far off the point that the comedian (e.g. Chris rock) just ends up looking like an ignorant prat who has never known any white people, hahaha, fail on his part.I enjoy GOOD comedy, some good comedy involves a few racist jokes (Fawlty Towers for example).

  • I havent read this post yet, but I hate white people! No really, most of the white people I meet, I hate them.Like i really dislike being around them and I usually want to make them go away as soon as possible.Usually I do that by being rude, or not saying what they want me to say. Most of the white people I meet dont want to talk to you, they want you to say what they want you to say so that they can say what they planned on saying. They are rather annoying.I think I will stick with brown people.I will read this in a little while, and maybe comment again.

  • @rebootie - I wonder how someone of a different race would be supported for showing up to something to show racial solidarity. It seems the only way to equality is to make fun of everyone else, that's truly sad. I don't think anyone deserves to be treated and differently because of any determining factor besides their own actions. The country should just have a national forgiveness day for everyone to air their grievances and move towards the right direction.

  • @for_ever_mustard - I laugh at all kinds of jokes made by comedians. Especially Chris Rock and Carlos Mencia. I believe comedy can dissolve racial tension. Laughter is the best medicine, ya know!?Asians are smart, black people like fried chicken, mexicans work their asses off, and white people are squares.Well I'm happy to be a smart square that works her ass off and loves fried chicken! I guess I'm equally racist?

  • @IHearTheOcean - well i happen to live near a ft. famous for the  'buffalo soldiers'...and the town always had lots of african americans here.........and for years  generations have lived with each other and just see each other for the most part ...as people ..color blind.......and that to me is the only solution....to be human ...and forget what color yer skin is ..cuz when we die //.....we all end up the same color........we are all just humans....................................

  • @rebootie - I believe this to be an optimistic ideal, but for this time it's just an ideal. Mankind is possibly not ready for world peace. It's our nature to destroy ourselves, some just try to destroy others first. I would much rather laugh along with the rest of the world. I know it may seem wrong and my kidding may be out of place but I dont really see a real and honest solution.

  • @IHearTheOcean - that's because almost everyone..thinks we are headed towards desolation.....and out of habit..we cling to failure....read 'the hundreth monkey '...i think you'll be surpirsed to see  that a minority of people can steer the rest towards sanity.................

  • @phantomFive - You are absolutely right. If you want something to change, you have to start making that change for yourself.

  • @alayshaj - "brown people"? Hahahahahahaha. OK, that is a first. Then maybe you should try meeting some other white people. It seems to me like you're in a vicious cycle of meeting just those kinds of white people.

  • This is an extremely well written post

  • @rebootie - And how do you get people to realize it. What can you do to fight an uphill battle? I usually just joke it off but it's so frustrating!

  • @LLroomtempJ - i wish there was a way to recommend YOUR comment, because you were most definitely "dead on," sir.

  • I am a history major, and so am quite over this kind of discussion. i wish I had something to add, but I have heard this rendered in so many different ways that it kind of just makes me want to vomit. I am in no way trying to offend the entry, I commend you on taking up the issue and 'stirring the pot.' I wou do raise some good pointsill keep checking in and maybe add something to another entry's discussion--you do raise some good points

  • I completely agree with you, and applaud your candor in this post.  I think you bring up a lot of good points, and I'm grateful that someone is speaking out.
