  • Overcoming My Fears Of Black People

Am I the only one who cringes at the thought of someone asking, “Is it because I’m Black?”

On Wednesday, January 14, 2009, I overcame my fear of confronting a Black supremacist for the first time in my life.  This was the same woman who blasted all Caucasians for being racists, claiming that I’m White because of my Chinese heritage.

She eats with me during lunch.  While I’m fine with the fact that she peels my oranges, it becomes more than disgusting when she rips the larger sections in half after picking her teeth, feeding them to me.

I shudder at the thought of consuming foreign saliva, especially the type that includes particles of chewed up food extracted from teeth!

Now, you’d think a nurse of all people would have the common sense and decency of hygiene.  I even gave her toothpicks with a kind but indirect explanation, yet she only uses them when she sees I’ve caught her in the act.  She must think I’m blind!  I was quite tempted to introduce some of this special toothpaste…

And you know how when you peel a fruit there are often black particles from perhaps a dried up leaf or stump?  When she touched it away with her finger lathered in spit, let’s just say I hope it didn’t come from her mouth!

At one point, she picked her teeth and ripped apart my last piece of orange.  I was so grossed out that I had to desperately lie and tell her I was too full.  She left it on the kitchen counter, but after leaving, my poor aunt was just about to eat it in an attempt to not be wasteful.   Time froze for a moment.

“STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!  IT’S BEEN IN HER MOOOOOOOOOUTH!!!”

I had to put up with this for more than a year, and all because of my ridiculous fear of offending a (racist) minority, even though I’m one myself on a national level.  Internationally, I’m a majority.

But on the eve of D-Day, I finally had the last straw.  She was pulling apple seeds out of her mouth!

    OH DEAR GODS NO!!!

If only she had chewed and swallowed them since apple seeds contain cyanide

I was tossing and turning all night long, contemplating my next move.  At one o’clock in the morning, it suddenly occurred to me that potentially offending someone outweighs the consumption of foreign saliva that includes particles of chewed up food extracted from teeth!  I was determined and unafraid, until the next day.

As my heart pounded ever so rapidly, I conjured up the courage and asked, “Would you mind using a knife with the fork when you feed my orange from now on?”

     “Okay,” she replied.

“OKAY”?!  WHAT DO YOU MEAN “OKAY”?!  I’VE BEEN EATING YOUR SPIT FOR A YEAR!  I DEMAND OFFENCE!!!

At least now there’s hope in that I can retire my stupid joke about chocolate ice cream in an attempt to break the ice with the divas.

    Dear Divas,

I’m sorry that I lied to you, but I don’t like chocolate ice cream.  My favourites are actually mango, raspberry cheesecake, and vanilla.

I told my Jamaican nurse about this and she laughed so hard.  The coloured folks must think me ridiculous.

Unfortunately, she lied.  She only used a knife once since then, in front of my parents.  One time, she left a used piece of Kleenex on my desk without my knowledge.  When I asked mom to wipe my nose, it hurt like hell for some reason.  We unfolded it to discover chewed up vegetable stems and dried up fragments of a spaghetti noodle.  It was a moment that defined the opposite to having an orgasm.

Excuse me while I go and throw up…

Reader, are you a victim of racial propaganda?  Do you ever dread the question “Is it because I’m Black?”  What ridiculous lengths have you gone through to avoid said question?

  • I think if you have worry about someone asking you that question, there is a problem. Either you have no business doing/saying said thing, or you're dealing with a highly paranoid person.
You shouldn't worry at all. If there is considerable room for a person to feel like they have to ask that question then perhaps you may need to check what you are doing/saying...or check THEM.
And if it IS because they are black, at least be upfront about it.
And if it isn't, then it isn't.
An answer such as, "...and no, it's not because you are black, it's because you're nasty" should suffice.

  • I don't pay attention to race and I'm not going to avoid saying something to someone just because they are a different race.  I guess I'm a pretty blunt person anyway.  I love diversity.  I love different races and cultures.  Also, no one has ever given me that question.  I don't think people are as racist anymore as others make them out to be.

    Pretty gross about your food...

  • I've heard of people using the "It's because I'm black, isn't it?" card to get out of things like shop lifting...with pretty decent sucess, actually. So you're not alone. I think the worst for me was the last job I worked, a customer came in...a black man, with with lips and hair resembling Denzel Washington and sunglasses on. I commented on the resemblance; meaning it as a compliment and got in return, "All us black guys look the same, right?" Uhhhm...no...totally NOT what I meant. And it definitely kinda left a mark of sorts... 'If I say something to this person, are they going to think it has something to do with the color of their skin??' And then I start second-guessing my own intentions and it snowballs from there. :-/

  • You were grossed out. So was I – your description was so vivd I experienced a mental vomit.

You also come across as a completely ignorant racist. I don't think you intended it, but that's how it is.

If you use the term "coloured folks" they won't have to ask: they'll know it's because they're black. Were you born just yesterday or eighty years ago or perhaps you are not from around here?

  • Is it? ... So, she feeds you? Interesting... I just avoid it for everyone. I can't stand others' saliva on my stuff. Eeew. Like in school, people just think they can drink my Dr.P. Well they can't, but they still do. As for the question, I think people avoid asking me that. (I'm Mexican.)

  • @goD_I_V_Aunc10 - For someone who blasts the entire Caucasian race for being racist while claiming that a Chinese person is white, I wasn't out of line to have been concerned. It's not only me who depends on her, but my family as well so I had to be careful. This really has nothing to do with race, just her.

@NoPenniesHere - Well then you're one of the lucky few who doesn't have to deal with very defensive and paranoid people, lol... I'd just glad you don't have to consume foreign saliva! I'll pretend I'm taking it for you! =P

@filtered_sunlight@momaroo - Finally! Someone who understands, haha. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but still it's good to know I'm not alone.

@dirtbubble - Of course I come across as an ignorant racist, to the ignorant who fail to have a sense of humour...

@StrawberriesMimi - I just hate the fact that she's sneaky and lies and takes advantage of my kindness.

  • What a misleading title. She sounds gross. I don't dread the question but I'm black so no one has ever asked me. I don't really think it is a question that needs to be asked though.

  • @DearRicky - Wow. There's a side of my town you can visit and talk to the "coloured folks" there. See if they find that term funny coming out of chinaman's mouth.

  • Singapore has made great inroads into stopping Chinese people from spitting on the ground. So I wonder if you Ricky avoid spitting in public? Well I am Chinese and spit more on the grass and try to aim carefully because I hate to swallow spit that has dust that I just breathed in (I am in construction).

Another pet peeve is the exagerated hand covering your mouth when some people pick their teeth. What is wrong with using a toothpick in public? At least that isn't picking your teeth with your fingernails...

Maybe the nurse wants you to skin your own orange?

  • I mean, not really. I don't put up with any unwanted bodily fluids. Sorry about all that, it really sucks to have to tolerate gross things.

  • Nurses seem to be some of the grossest and most unhygienic people I have ever met, do they know somehting we dont? I would not have a prob with the color of her skin, just her profession! She is a nurse right?

  • @DearRicky - First of all, I read your post and knew you were Chinese. And I'm not blasting the whole Caucasian race for being racist. What the hell does that have to do with your question on this post?
Second of all, you asked the question if people dread the question, "Is it because I'm black," and I basically said that you shouldn't even have to worry about whether a person is going to ask that question or not. And IF you are worried about it, check yourself or check the other person.

If a person is nasty they are nasty, regardless of race is what I'm saying.
I am ALSO saying there is an issue when something like that has to hold you back from expressing your opinion about something that is clearly worth speaking up about.

  • ....o.O! your chinese?

no seriously though I have worked with the public for 21 years I have come to the conclusion that ALL people no matter what color they are ,  are like a mystery box. You are afraid to stick your hand in it (deal with them) but when you do you may get something good or you may end up with a burnt hand.

You do have a right as a human being to ask for better sanitary conditions and if they get mad or bring up the question of being black tell them no its because of common sense....which  A LOT  of people lack now and days.

I don't really dwell on black and white I see everyone as gray =)

  • Man, at least you won't have to suffer that anymore. this is plain gross.

  • @dirtbubble - at least they'd notice he's chinese

  • i tend to make racist jokes, but honestly dont care either way for race at all.

to me we're all the same people with different shells.

but on another note while i really dont care about getting sick from swapping spit and sharing drinks

etc i can still understand why you would be grossed out: race included or not, it is pretty nasty to

see someone mess with themselves where ever and still try to serve you.

  • As a patient, isn't it your right to complain about her lack of hygene? :/

  • The 'opposite of orgasm' line was funny.

  • That was totally diffrerent than I expected this post to be. But it was pretty good lol. You certainly paint an unpleasant picture and I can pretty much picture it. YUCK! And if she asks that question just say "no...it's because you disgust me" I try to be as brutally honest as possible. But I have heard that question before, I usually don't worry about it unless it's habitual with someone. Then I take the high road, and tell them that if they really think this is a problem of race they should go to the ghetto and stop tainting the sovereingty of the community. But thankfully most people are better than that.

  • Interesting post. and yet gross at the same time. But yes, I dread that saying. Because it's dumb. If were to use the line "It's because I'm white, isn't it?" I'd probably get locked up immediately. It's just the fact that I'm sorry for saying this, but black people and Mexicans can get away with using that line, and it's insane. It shouldn't be about race or color. It should be about what the person did to get them in that situation. They stole a car, put 'em in jail for GTA. if they say "It's cause I'm black" or "It's cause I'm Mexican" simply just say "sorry but your still a human being and we humans get put in jail for GTA" Some people are stupid..I just don't understand the world today. And yes I have been grossed out before, but not because of that reason. I'd rather not say what it is because then people are going to freak out and say dumb stuff.

  • i have had those exact words said to me. It is really hard to answer truthfully.
but honestly, i dont really focus on ethnicity. But the food part really grossed me out.
haha, hilarious entry, but quite disgusting at the same time.
I dont think i'll look at an orange the same way again =

  • i don't see how race is an issue here at all. it seems like you are creating an issue that simply would not exist if you did not create such sharp distinctinos between people of different races. if this nurse, clearly unhygienic as she is, was the kind of person who would be likely to be racially offended by your disgust at her lack of cleanliness, then she was a moron, and what would it matter how she reacted? it feels like you are being presumptuous, labeling her with a response that she never even gave so as to justify what seems to me to be a form of racism on your part - namely, that black people presume themselves to be flawless, and consider all criticism to be a form of racism. from your previous posts, it seems that you are very quick to find fault in others for your own prejudices. of course, i don't know you at all, and i could be well wide of the mark. i don't know.

  • and, in answer to the question you posed, no, i don't really dread the question 'is it because i am black?', because only an idiot would ask such a question over criticism that clearly has no racial motivation. i find it no less intimidating than a believer getting offended over a reasoned discussion of religion. if the other person can't see beyond their own skin or dogmatic thought-processes, then i'm not going to be held responsible for innocuously offending them.

  • OMG I was so grossed out reading this!!!

I hate when they ask that question cause it's like indirectly asking if you're racist. Uh...no...how 'bout I just don't like YOU? Seriously wtf lol.

  • Uh, why do you even interact with this person? She doesn't seem too bright...and her race has nothing to do with her having no issue getting saliva on your food.Gross. ~shudder~ I don't see how you can get so upset over that whole pale pasty joke on that tv show and then say the things you have in this post. Not that I am in any way offended but I feel that it bears mentioning that someone might be. Someone could argue that you calling people colored is racist. Personally I find it hilariously outdated and realize you meant no harm. I kind of feel like your previous posts defending other races, while well meaning,  have been undermined by this one.

  • this is one of the strangest blogs i've ever read.

  • Are you stuck with this person? I mean, if you explain to her superiors that her "neatness" or "sanitariness" bothers you, maybe they'd send you someone else...

  • I am pale, not black...

  • Wow that's really disgusting. I don't think you should be afraid to demand sanitation, regardless if it offends the person or not due to their race. If it does then just simply tell them that is has nothing to do with race and say exactly what you just wrote. If they still try to play the racisim game, let her/him continue to be ignorant and fire the person.

lol nobody says "coloured/colored people" anymore. I think that terminology is really stupid because in all honesty every existing human being and animal on this planet is "colored." FAIL! lol

  • YUCK! People can be so gross.

  • thats so gross... personal hygiene should always be noted

  • LOLOL!!! This was so entertaining to read, it practically made my day for that matter haha. Maybe you should get a new nurse. Yeahh some black people scare me because I'm scared that they'll call me racist.

  • Yuck I can't imagine how you've been sharing saliva with her so far!
And blame the media for that question. They tend to emphasize racism more and more, if they would have just let it be, I doubt anyone would feel that they were being picked on because they belonged to one of the minorities.

  • it doesn't matter what color they are, that is pretty disgusting PERIOD. I can't believe you ate the fruits for a year! I would have refused to open my mouth to eat anything until she washes her hands.

  • Ok, Ok, ok, so for 24 hours I have been deciding what to say on this...I've decided to say... I don't think race has anything to do with her being a pretty unhigenic nurse....I mean, you've written about white opression and stereotypes...so why exactly are you afriad of black people...what assumption have you made about the WHOLE race that makes you scared to tell someone not to put their teeth crumbs on ur food?

  • @TiRocKiinPiinK - How is the title misleading? This is about my ridiculous attempt at getting over my years of black people, haha.

@dirtbubble - Chinaman? Interesting, lol... I certainly I wouldn't doubt there are places where people are ignorant without a sense of humour!

@PPhilip - Trust me, if I could skin my own orange, would!!! I don't live in Singapore so I don't have such a dilemma, but I did try spitting once and it ended up on my foot! Never again! =P

@Ninstein - I know, it's disgusting! It's definitely not easy being me sometimes... I just hate how she is so sneaky and lies!

@kidzandK9z - So true. I always see morbidly obese nurses smoking outside hospitals. It's such an oxymoron.

@goD_I_V_Aunc10 - Talk about defensive, lol... if you actually read my entry properly, you would understand like a rational person that I wasn't talking about you. I was making fun at myself, you silly person you! (:

@Fantasysfan - The problem is that I have asked her very politely, as I have mentioned, but still her sneaky ways are so frustrating! I don't care about if she is black. I have other black nurses who aren't defensive or disgusting.

@punkofzombie - It is, but if I offend her and she decides to leave, my family would be the ones to face the consequences without help.

@XactiLucius - If only it was just an unpleasant “picture.” You definitely have the grapefruits, haha.

@redhotpacsun - Exactly. It shouldn't be about race or color, but judging from her defensive comments and behaviour, I'm afraid it is. I mean if there were no consequences and I don't require help from nurses, I wouldn't be afraid, but there is no denying the unfortunate reality.

@Joycee_love - It's quite refreshing to know someone understands where I'm coming from here, even if I had to go through disgusting to accomplish such, lol... at least you can feed oranges to yourself!

@twotothefightingeighthpower - Presumptuous, am I? Coming from someone who blasts the entire Caucasian race to be racist, I had my reasons for feeling insecure, especially since she is someone I depend on it. Like I said, I don't care about race, just her defensiveness. She is a racist, if you haven't figured it out already.

@mayanao - I know. It's like “take that stick out of your ass and accept your disgusting nature!”

@thats_not_my_name - Unfortunately, I don't have much of a choice. Of course her race has nothing to do with her disgusting nature. I never implied such. It just so happens, that she is black and defensive. In my previous entries regarding “pale” and “pasty,” the main reason I found it offensive was because it was associated with “frail” and “indoors(y),” which a lot of people don't seem to understand. And the irony of my entire entry is that I use “coloured” in the end, the emphasis that I am ridiculous, which some people don't seem to understand, either. If I used the term “coloured” alongside with a negative term like “frail,” it would then become an insult. As a Chinese person, I'm considered yellow. I would much rather be referred to as “coloured,” like a rainbow, haha.

    @JadedJanissary - How so?

@styxx374 - Unfortunately, I am, lol... there is a shortage of nurses in Canada if you didn't know!

@Plastic_Alice7 - Indeed. I've always found it funny how people use the term “coloured,” which was the only reason I put it in, to emphasize ridiculousness. Somehow, I don't think the people who unsubscribed to me because of this entry understand that I was only making fun of myself.

@lilaznswtness421 - Well, at least I was able to entertain you out of my own expense, haha. Good to know!

@QweenCat - What some people fail to understand here is that she is racist, and although this entry is about how ridiculous I am, it's also about how I am trying to overcome my fears of dealing with a racist.

@Trigger821 - I never said she was discussing because of her colour. I don't understand why people are getting that, lol!

@AlterEgo909 - Silly, I never stated or implied that race has anything to do with her behaviour. I have other black nurses who aren't disgusting, of course, but that's a given. I'm not afraid of black people, just the defensive ones who are racist. I got OVER my fears, remember? Hello, I'm making fun of myself at how ridiculous I am! =P

  • @DearRicky - Well, it's hard living with them, yet at times it is hard living without them,

  • I worked in a restaurant once and the next table available was in the back of the place.  The lady who was to be seated there was an older black woman.  She threw a fit because she said we sat her in the back because she was black.  Our manager came out and explained to her that we were simply following a rotation and if she wished to be seated somewhere else, she would have to wait until another table became available.  She didn't like it at all.  I was glad I wasn't her server because she was pissed when she sat down... I bet there was no tip at the end of the meal for whoever her server was.

Sorry you have to deal with saliva on your food... it's really gross... blech

  • UGH that is gross

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - hey, i like you!

  • I read this at first and got offended because I've never said, "Is it because I'm black?" And I thought it was ignorant that anyone would think that all black people are just as ignorant -  we are people too, some are just a little darker than the rest.

However, I read it again. Then I thought about my misconceptions about other people and nationalities. I don't normally act of them, but some stereotype will pop up in my head when I approach someone. For example, if I happen to walk into a restaurant of prodominately older white people with my white/hispanic husband, I automatically think they are judging us. Whether they are or not, is not the issue, but that I have a low opinion of older whites. And now that I realize my own ignorance, I will work to stop it.

I think it's noble of you to publicly recognize your errors, no matter how controversal, and let us know how you are working to stop them.

  • sometimes i worry that my lack of eye contact with strangers will be taken as racism

  • why is she feeding you in the first place?

  • @DearRicky - I see. I guess they took it to an extreme. I kind of figured you were just messin' around.

  • wow.  how powerful the words 'if it isn't, then it isn't.'  i've been pretty much looking at it as 'if it is, then it is.'  right on.

  • @XDaemonessX - That is horrible. I hate when people do that because it really just trivializes the seriousness of racism. Those are the people that freak me out, the defensive and irrational! It's also very embarrassing to see.

@Butterpecan_ts - When did I ever say or imply that all black people are ignorant? I find it unfortunate that you fail to find the humour in all of this because in the end, I'm the one who has to deal with foreign saliva, lol!

We all have our misconceptions about other races. I was merely making fun of mine, and if you understand the person I am, you would also understand that it always find humour in things that bother me. Why not make the best of it, right?

@makethemakersmile - It can go either way, haha. You stare, you're racist. You don't stare, it's the same!

    @aZnNpAnDaPrIdEaN - Use your brain, genius. =P

@Plastic_Alice7 - If only people took the time to look at my logo, lol!

  • yes the "is it bc im black" excuse is so old and repetitive at times its disgusting. Just pull a "is it bc im asian" thing on her. its like a scapegoat nowadays seems like. In cases not meant to be racist, people just love to blow every assumption out of proportion. Well the orange thing is just gross. *shivers.

  • @DearRicky - "She is a racist, if you haven't figured it out already"

and if you haven't figured it out already, so are you. her actions don't excuse yours. your sweeping generalisations extend far beyond this one woman. you want to argue that one woman's saliva implies racism, or justifies your hyperbolic and seemingly irrational fear of having your criticisms perceived as racism by all people with black skin? and you want me to take you seriously?

and my condemnation of white people was ironic and largely aimed at the moronic over-privileged white americans who supported your ludicrous supposition that white oppression was in any way worse or more serious an issue than white oppression of other races. i'm an over-privileged white male myself, so i'm in a particularly strong position to recognise their massive idiocy.

  • Um, I AM black. I don't understand why you're afraid of them. Care to explain? You didn't explain very well-your friend is just one of those people. No offense to others like this, but seriously, not all people of this race are the same.

  • @goD_I_V_Aunc10 - i like me too! we have so much in common.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - Why would I care if you took me seriously? Your arguments can only be justified with attempts of putting words in my mouth. I never once claimed or implied that all black people are racists. I'm afraid she just so happens to be black and racist and defensive, nothing more to it.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Are you the main protagonist in this entry? I never said or implied that all black people are the same.

  • @DearRicky - oh, so the whole entry you just wrote which concluded with a sweeping question about the fear that black people will respond to criticism by invoking cries of racism doesn't support my argument? well, fair enough. why would you care what i think? you wouldn't. you seem far too ignorant.

  • at no time was I implying that you thought black people were ignorant. Either I didn't explain myself clearly or you took instant offense to what I was saying...

My point was that I read this and looked to be offended. You did title your article "Overcoming my fears of black people." Therefore, I starting reading your article prepared for an ignorant comment. So,  when I read it, all I took note of was that you thought all black people say, "Is it because I'm black." And I got offended cuz I never say that and it irritates me when people do say it. However, as I mentioned before, I reread your article.

I do not think that you think black people are ignorant. I think that you had a misconception and learned that there was no reason for it, even from the most disgusting people.

Also, I had also learned that there was no reason to be upset from your article. I walk around with misconceptions about people...and I'm sure most do. However, I thought that it was noble of you to talk about your experience with a misconception.

  • @DearRicky - I had no intention of that being my final message. I was simply stating an opinion, and I think that this black woman you were dealing with (excuse my black language for a second) had no home training. (Okay, I'm done.) The point is that she needs to learn some manners, and you have no reason to be afraid of black people, honest.

  • @Butterpecan_ts - Originally, you thought I was generalizing about all black people, which was why you became offended in the first place. Nonetheless, I appreciate your thoughts and I'm glad you understand where I was coming from.

@twotothefightingeighthpower - You are hilarious. Where exactly is this “sweeping” question you speak of?

The problem with your argument is that it contains no substance, only attempts at accusations and assumptions. Throwing words around out of thin air is unfortunate.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Way to cower away from the initial falsities of your argument. And of course I have no reason to be afraid of black people. Why would I? I only was afraid of her because she is racist and defensive. The point is your argument had absolutely no substance to begin with. I was looking forward to one of your “lectures.”

  • @DearRicky - you turned an entry about a disgusting nurse into an issue of race, attempting to trivialise it by confessing your fears of offending a minority. it appears that, even though you are prepared to superficially confess to making distinctions between people based on the colour of their skin, you remain unwilling to analyse your own shortcomings. you had a disgusting nurse. that is a fact. the colour of her skin is completely irrelevant, and only you have seen fit to make that the centrepiece of discussion, as is evident in the title and concluding questino of your post.

  • @DearRicky - I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or an insult. So I'll take it as a compliment! ^_^ The racist kind are always the worst, and I feel that, not only is she racist and quick to defend her own race and no other, but she is rude and needs to realize that, just because she believes that her race his the most important or the best, she doesn't need to tell every single person of a different race. And this is off-topic, but your sarcastic comment (if it was a sarcastic comment) about me being the main protagonist made absolutely no sense to me. I don't want to be the hero.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - Here is the dilemma. Either you are just another self-loathing white liberal too brainwashed to understand the complexities of humour, or you're just another troll trying to cause controversy, which I actually appreciate. Please continue.

Of course the colour of her skin is irrelevant. I was afraid that she would take it as discrimination because she is a racist and condemns the entire Caucasian race, calling me white as well. The fact is she is black and there is no denying it.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Your attempts at niceties don’t amuse me. It doesn't take away the fact that argument was forced to begin with. And “main protagonist” does not signify a hero, but the main character so you may absolutely no sense to me, either.

  • "my fear of confronting a black person", as i told you before, goes far beyond this one woman. if it suits you better to call me a troll because you are too arrogant to consider your own flaws rather than actually engage me, then i guess you're just reinforcing my initial comment, which was that you habitually project your own shortcomings onto other people.

  • also, your use of 'liberal' as an insult tells me everything i could ever need to know about you

  • @DearRicky - then it seems we've reached an impasse and I'd rather not start a feud with someone for a reason so inadequate as an opinion.
    @twotothefightingeighthpower - I couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @twotothefightingeighthpower - @twotothefightingeighthpower - So she is a black person. And? Do I need to dumb everything down just so you don't get the wrong idea? This entire entry is about how ridiculous I am for being afraid, lol... again, no substance. Also, you're not just a liberal. You are a self-loathing liberal. There is a difference.

@Queen_of_You188 - There was no feud to begin with. How can I feud with someone who lacks common sense, lol...?

  • @DearRicky - ...you don't know me well enough to literally say that, therefore I won't take it as an offensive comment. And what you said about twotothefightingeighthpower being a self-loathing liberal makes no sense.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - I can only judge from your words and in your words, you lack common sense...

  • I know I already commented, but I forgot to answer that bolded question... yeah, I do fear that question, because the one time it was asked of me I was terrified.  I had been helping out at a homeless shelter, and one of the people there asked for my phone number.  Because he was a COMPLETE STRANGER, I very politely declined, and the first thing he said is, "Is it because I'm black?"

I immediately shouted, "NO!" because I was so shocked he would think that.

Then he goes, "Is it because you think I'm homeless?!"

I said no quieter this time, and then he started shouting at me and following me and saying, "This girl is MEAN!"  I was so freaked out I kind of jogged to the back and told my supervisor.  What a jerk.

  • @DearRicky - you may believe that, but do you recall what I said before about some people paying attention to only their side of an argument/feud/quarrel? You are one of those people, from what I can see. If you looked at MY side of this argument, you'd see my opinion, but apparently you are taking your opinion, comparing it with mine, and deeming my opinion to "lack common sense". Could you try being a bit more understanding, please?

  • I really appreciate your post as it has inspired me to write about my own experience (although not as eloquently as you have done). I am sorry that your nurse is absolutely disgusting. The opposite of orgasm is a pretty awesome concept.

  • @DearRicky - then get yourself a white nurse? or a chinese one? how about just one that your comfortable with??

  • Ugh. Disgusting and lame post. Not funny, nor interesting. And you'll see my picture and think, "It's because she's 'black'..." Ugh. Hate these racial diversions. Why can't we just see people for people and leave race out of everything....

@redhotpacsun - No you wouldn't. Don't be so dramatic. Go to any high school, Caucasian kids say that all the time with their 'Black' counterparts. Seriously. It's all in stupid jokes.

  • @ultravioletskies08 - Which is why I don't understand the saying. White people say it as if their black or mexican. but you don't see black people or Mexicans say 'it's because I'm white' and if you do it literally is a joke. but living in Alabama, they don't do jokes. I just moved here, I lasted in school for about two days because that's all I heard. I mean, your black, but I'm not against you. You look and seem like a nice person. But for some reason, the people out here. It's somethin else. and I'm from Las Vegas. it's strange to see that Alabama is worse than Vegas when it comes to race. And to be honest, I have never had a black person come up to me and say "We gotta blackify you", that is why I left the school in the first place, because being an army brat I  normally change my personality to the people around me. I don't like it, and I'm sure I could control that, but for some reason I find it difficult. and now that I've found the personality I like, I'm gonna stick with it. so I'm home schooled.

But I totally agree with you, I'd love to see people for who they are and leave race out of it. But sometimes that's hard to do. Because if they are like...a gang banger. Then that draws the line. Because I can garuntee you that this gang banging crap and the stupid stuff from the past with the whites thinking the black should be slaves, it's just dumb. Just because your not white doesn't mean you should'a been a slave, your still human. And just because your Mexican or Black doesn't mean you have to act like it. and when I say act like it, I mean like, hard core.

  • @redhotpacsun - I know, or at least hope that was a bit of exaggeration. But in the rare case that it wasnt, allow me to make a comment. If you do think that someone would start some sort fuss over you saying "its because im white" then I feel for you my dear. lol Seriously. I think if anything someone might become a little puzzled if not just laugh. And on another note, allow me to be nit picky: Mexican is a nationality, not a race If by any chance you were assuming that.

I had a lot more written but what is the point in typing some long winded explanation?

There's a really interesting article Titled "Crazy Sometimes"  by
Leonard Pitts Jr. that can be found In Paula S. Rothenberg's book White Privilege. It
kind of touches upon his ideas and theories about black people and
whether or not race is too commonly discussed among us and why he
    thinks so.

Read it, if you will. Its pretty damn interesting. - Crazy sometimes

DR - If you are being FED by this woman, then I am assuming you are close enough where you should just be able to tell her (and its always best in a semi playful manner) that you saw her digging in her teeth and she needs to get her hands off your orange. She knows she was doing it and you know it so if she pulls "the race card" on you, then she wasnt worth your trouble of having to walk on eggshells. The REAL question is, why do you fear this backlash other than or in addition to the fact that perhaps it is not true?

  • @DearRicky - You made it about race "overcoming my fear of BLACK people"  You clearly have some race issues.  You should work on that man.  Were you adopted?  That would make a lot of sense actually.

  • @redhotpacsun - You said, "And just because your Mexican or Black doesn't mean you have to act like it. and when I say act like it, I mean like, hard core."

Act like it? I don't understand that phrase at all. I don't know what 'acting black' means, so when you say it, and even add the 'hard core' in there... still I'm completely bewildered. It's like what Diane Sawyer said to Alice Walker, "I don't see you as 'black'..." Why, because she can coherently form sentences? Seriously, this country NEEDS so much help, it's not even funny.

If just because I can elaborate my thoughts with words, the fact that I'm a republican, the fact that I don't put race into everything, the fact that I go to a private, conservative college.... DOESN'T make me someone who is "acting white".... It makes me just whoever I grew up as. There is no such thing as acting white, or acting black, or acting asian, or acting indian, or acting hispanic. And I will tell this to anyone of any race, at any time. Seriously.

And just for info, "I mean, your black, but I'm not against you. You look and seem like a nice person."

    .... I'm multi-racial actually.

  • I don't think its because she is black. I think she doesn't have/ and never has been raised with proper manner as an individual. Why int he hell does she feed you oranges..?! wtf ....she is not your girl fiend is she? -doubt it. So why don't you just peel it yourself avoid all the drama and simply eat in peace. Unless you like throwing up and watching her antics. Your knife idea was good; as soon as she stop you should have just addressed her...race should not have been a question on your part or hurting her feelings when your health is a priority. Good luck in the future.

  • @ultravioletskies08 - Well I don't know how to explain it. There are ways that certain people act when they are different races. And idk how to describe it.

    I'm 16, and don't know what a conservative college is...sorry?

Your multi-racial? COOL!! What are you if your not fully black?

  • So I guess my initial reaction to all of this was... "why the hell is she feeding you?" and "why is your mom wiping your nose?". I would of course have to know your situation which means I'd have to had read previous blogs, I suppose.

Now that I'm sort of over that... hygiene is hygiene and she's gross and you should have said something immediately. And while people DO say the "darnedest" things, I guess I just don't expect "Is It Because Im...?" to ever be used in a non-joking fashion since almost all of my friends and colleagues are politically incorrect clowns.

  • @eowynnabeeowyn - It's disgusting sometimes what we have to deal with and yet what such offenders fail to understand is that pulling the race card is only another way of insulting themselves, which is kind of funny. Some people are too stupid to recognize this.

@Queen_of_You188 - The entire problem here is that you don't have an argument. You simply contradicted yourself, my first challenging me with a false perspective, only to back away when you realized how much your "argument" lacked substance.

@atheista - Inspired you, huh? I'm definitely going to have to have a little read. Thanks! ;)

@redhotpacsun - I have a variety of different nurses, but none of them can work by themselves in the week. They have to work together. Trust me, if there was a solution, I would take it.

@ultravioletskies08 - Of course it's not funny to you. You lack a sense of humour and it has nothing to do with the colour of your skin, just a difference in opinion. You assume that it has everything to do with your race, which unfortunately is exactly where the question, "Is it because I'm black?" comes from.

@BlackAnomaly9 - Like I mentioned in this entry, I already tried to ask her nicely, but she wouldn't take it. She did lie and is very sneaky about it. She obviously knows how disturbed I am as she did use a knife only in front of other people, yet she continues to test me. And you're right because I should be more honest about it, but the backlash to haunt me. As for someone who is physically disabled, I depend on her and especially my family. It's not only myself I have to think about. It's not easy when you have to ask for help.

@BlazingNegro2007 - I can't deny that fact she is a black person and that I am afraid of racist black people who are defensive and use the race card as an excuse for everything. I never said or implied that all black people are the same.

@Jubilantlaughter - When did I ever say it's because she's black that makes her disgusting? She just happens to be black and disgusting, nothing more. If I could peel it myself, I would, but since I require a nurse, then obviously I am physically disabled. The entire point is that she is racist.

@Complexitii - If you read my entire entry, you would understand that she is a nurse and if I require someone to feed me or wipe my nose, then obviously I am physically disabled in some way.

  • Sorry, I didn't read between the lines to realize your disabled. I too am temporarily disabled.

  • @DearRicky - lol. I lack sense of humour.... that coming from someone who doesn't know me. What if what you wrote wasn't funny? Ever think of that? Heavens. I've seen your comment on numerous people telling people what they are...  oh dearest, you don't know them.

"You assume that it has everything to do with your race, which unfortunately is exactly where the question, "Is it because I'm black?" comes from." Really? I do? When have I ever said that? Also, if you didn't catch it, my "its because I'm black" comment was pure sarcasm.

Insult and define me, then you want to "add me as friend"...  Wow.

  • @redhotpacsun - I know you don't know how to explain it. Nobody really does seem to know how.... And I think that's the point. This generalization to death often hinders the people that don't fall into generalization. The birth of stereotypes.... Heavens, this country loves to label.

I just meant a college that was socially conservative.

I'm Caribbean, Indian (from India), and Scottish. And though, yes, I'm majority "Black"... that doesn't mean I don't care about the rest of me. Prime example, the president... I think both "Blacks" and Caucasians alike forget what he is. That's an utter shame.

  • @Jubilantlaughter - This still does not explain why you assumed my justification for actions was because of the colour of her skin.

    @ultravioletskies08 -
It's funny that while you acknowledge the fact that you assume that everything has to do with your race in the next sentence, you still seek my validation. Do you even know what you wrote?

“Ugh” entirely defeats your purpose of sarcasm. Making excuses to justify the falsities of your argument or lack thereof is unfortunate.

Sure I want to add you as a friend. It's nothing personal. I add everyone.

  • I am really wondering why you sent me a friend's request when clearly I am very much Black. I guess whoever you can add to your zombie fan base that agrees to your every word will do. Okay, let me say this. I saw this post the first time you posted it. Why it's posted again, the world will never know but okay, fine, I will entertain it again. I have never and will never ask anyone "is it because I am black?" Know why? I live in the South and you don't have to ask, they make it very known when they don't want us around. It must be nice being able to write these blogs about race when you have never actually been in the shoes of a Black person or a White person, but it makes me wonder, have you actually had anything racist ever happen to you? I think you just enjoy making people mad or annoyed so you post these blogs to get people going... Good job it seems to be working.

  • @DearRicky - Again. Sarcasm. And when I write ugh... it's at the fact that you're not catching onto it. Thus I say it again: ugh.

  • @cocainecupcakes - Again, you are not the main protagonist in this entry and I don't expect you or any other black person to ask such a question, just her and a few others who are racist and defensive. The point of this entry is fact that I was afraid to be deemed a racist and my ridiculous attempts to avoid the potential confrontation.

@ultravioletskies08 - Of course I'm not catching up to it. You said “ugh” in your very first comment. Please, for your own sake, mind your logic or lack thereof! I have to say you do continue to amuse me. Thank you.

  • @DearRicky - Are you saying that I can't say "ugh" to the disgusting portion of the post? Because that's what that ugh meant. It's just a worded descriptor (I agree, not a very good one... but I've never had anyone read so deeply into something that SO many people use daily) of whatever my face was expressing at the time. You put too much thought into it. Not my fault if you can't tell the difference (even when I stated my disgust directly afterward). Let's go onto pooh... how do you feel about that one?

  • @ultravioletskies08 - "Ugh. Disgusting and lame post. Not funny, nor interesting. And you'll see my picture and think, "It's because she's 'black'..." Ugh. Hate these racial diversions. Why can't we just see people for people and leave race out of everything...." - ultravioletskies08

    Please, continue.

  • @DearRicky - Did you ever stop and wonder what makes people ask that? Maybe they have been rejected from certain situations because of their color and they are now on the defensive? Is that hard for you to believe? Because if it is honey, please visit Memphis and see how friendly the good ole boys are towards Chinese and Blacks :)

  • @cocainecupcakes - Of course I have, but that still does not take away the fact that such a question would make me feel uncomfortable. Why should I have to take unnecessary shit for something I never did? The point is that I got over my ridiculousness.

  • @DearRicky - Lol.... I read some of your other posts and it doesn't seem like you got over it but okay, if you say so. I can see how that question would make you uncomfortable but such is life. I am glad you feel better about it now :)

  • @cocainecupcakes - Feel better, lol...?  She's still very sneaky and lied! :(

  • @DearRicky - you know what-forget it. I have no time to argue with someone who insists on turning my own opinion against me.

  • i hate when people ask "is it because i'm black" too
(even though no one askes me that hehe.)
a lot of people ask that.
i know a lot of kids say that to white teachers so the teacher would stop "annoying" them
or people do that to other races to shut them up.
    its a stupid ass question.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Good excuse, lol!

@PrincessYnattirb - Thank you! Finally, a black person who understands where I'm coming from and doesn't think I'm racist! Seriously, I love you, haha.

  • @DearRicky - excuse?? I honestly have no time for it. Besides, just because this post made absolutely no sense, I don't think any of the black people here think your racist.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Why the hell are you still here?  I thought you had no time for me, lol!

  • @DearRicky - Because at the moment, I am not busy and am enjoying your rudeness! ^_^

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Haha, as you please milady! ;)

  • @DearRicky - The Queen is pleased! ^_^

  • @DearRicky - by the way, is your "main protagonist" pitch for the people who happen to care about the way you've addressed this topic?

  • @DearRicky - oh no, what I meant was that I would have rather be suspect of being racist than to deal with poor hygiene...especially if it is going into my mouth.

  • This is one weird entry, buddy. I've never feared asking that question, though. I just save it for a last resort.

  • I don't understand why it has to be race.

Why can't you just tell her that it's because she's nasty, instead of pushing it to the fact that she's black? I'm offended.
    No shit.
I shouldn't have read this. I go to a school full of Asian people, and I hear the same shit all the time. Yet I don't go around calling all Asians racists or something (although you've really pulled one for the team *note sarcasm*). If I don't like an Asian or anyone, it's because of what they do, not what or who they are.
Having fears of black people is stupid. You can go ahead and be scared of black people. Quite frankly, I couldn't give a rat's ass how you feel anymore, because you sound racist. I don't like it, and no, I'm not sorry. Has a black person beat you up or something before? I don't see why you have a fear. There's no other reason for this 'fear' unless you're a racist of some sort.
You need to pull your head out of your ass. Not everything is about race, you know. Some people are just less hygienic than others. No need to pin a race on that.

  • @SWEETBABE016 - Child, there is a difference between acknowledging race and using it as an excuse to to discriminate with hatred.  Go and do your homework, lol!

  • @DearRicky - that's what I'm saying. But I didn't see that anywhere in your blog. Your title is totally random. I don't agree as using it as an excuse. It annoys me when people say it, too, and I AM black. I never use it. But I don't like when people (like you said you were) are scared of black people. For what reason, I can't understand. I won't try to.

  • wow.

    WOW.

i can't believe that you would write something like this after your previous entries on "racism". I am an idiot for reading this.

You, however, are either really stupid when it comes to issues of race - or really calculated because this entry is real "toe to line".

  • because I'm South African (with a Chinese name..win!confusion!).. my problem is when I meet people for the first time, after only seeing my resume, I get the double look, the stare, the triple mispronunciation of my first and last name,  and finally the... "I didnt expect you to be white"

  • No. If someone asks me that I tell them "No, it's because you're being ________" Whatever you want to put there. The way I see it is there are nice people, rude people, gross people, clean people, beautiful, ugly, etc in every race.
Pulling the race card doesn't work for me because I think everyone is sort of the same and different. There are personalities that I like and those that I don't.
It has nothing to do with them being black or anything else.

  • What on earth? What kind of nurse is this!?

I never dread the question, maybe because I'm part black myself. But I've never had someone ask it, nor would I really care if they did. Anyone who automatically resorts to racial discrimination as a defense isn't worth my time.

  • Ok, I'm STILL confused about WHY you are scared of Black people, u mask this point with the post, but the title and the end question remains.

  • @Queen_of_You188 - I unfortunately had to dumb it down for the ones who don't know how to read!

@revolveloverocknroll22 - Of course you've never feared asking that question. You are a racist after all. For saving it as a last resort and even using the race card as an excuse, you are a disgrace to all black people because what you're doing is trivializing the severity of genuine racism.

@SWEETBABE016 - What you fail to understand is that I'm not afraid of all black people, only the ones who are racist and defensive. I'm scared of racist and defensive people in general, but it just so happened that she was black, which was the reasoning behind the title. She is a black people after all.

@LLroomtempJ - Finally, you realize how much of an idiot you are. Thank you for saving me the trouble of explaining this truth to you, lol... I actually reposted this entry on purpose since there were idiots like yourself who were offended. I appreciate your unfounded offense. ;)

@LifeStar1622 - Of course the behaviour of this culprit has nothing to do with race, which is what I don't understand. I don't understand how people are getting that I am blaming it on the colour of her skin. I never said or implied such a thing.

@Lordv16 - Exactly my point, lol! What kind of nurse is this?

@AlterEgo909 - Oh my God, lol... what more can I say? I'm afraid of racist and defensive black people. I've neither said nor implied that I'm afraid of all black people. Since she is a black people, that is the reason for my title. You can think about it for 24 hours again and then respond! =P

  • @DearRicky - of all the responses of mine to reply to, why reply to this one? just so that you can insult me? Something logical is missing from your entries on the issue of race. You refer to ppl that use the term "pasty" as rascists, and then you go ahead and write (or repost) an entry that crosses your own self-defined line of what racism is.

And then you say something even more confusing by responding to sweetbabe016 as though the prevalent thought in your mind when writing all of these entries is that racism is what it's dictionary definition is (as opposed to your personal definition).

    @DearRicky - You don't make any sense.

Your job leads me to believe that you've spent at least 5 years in an american college to get where you are (at least). Don't they have basic communication classes in college?

Were you being sarcastic in your previous entries? If you were, I didn't see any common tones of sarcasm at all.

I canceled our xanga friendship, but this entry somehow showed up in my blog feed.

    never again...

  • @LLroomtempJ - There is a difference between acknowledging race and using it to discriminate through hatred.  Has acknowledging someone for their race become racism too?  You "cancelled" our friendship.  Hilarious!  You never even had an argument.

  • @DearRicky - "There is a difference between acknowledging race and using it to discriminate through hatred"

THAT IS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS WHOLE TIME!!!!!

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS WHOOOOOLLLLLEEEEE TIME

"Has acknowledging someone for their race become racism too?"

I NEVER HINTED AT SUCH A THING!

ALL I SAID WAS THAT THIS ENTRY REEKED OF THE VERY THING THAT YOU CALLED RACISM ON YOUR PAST POSTS!!!

from my first message on your big bang theory post to my second message on your follow-up post - my message has EXCLUSIVELY been that your understanding of racism was wrong.

now you're talking like someone who has some degree of sense.

but let me tell you - your fear of black people is a prejudice that will probably result in many experiences like these in the future. People are people - regardless of their race. You just need to be a better judge of character.

i commented twice on this page and i have the first comment here.

i never called you a racist. I only implied that you were an unthinking person. From what you're saying now, it sounds like you took my advice or some other clear-thinking person's advice and examined your logic.

and i canceled the "friendship" b/c i felt like the things you wrote were illogical and i didn't want to be tempted to waste time reading things that were illogical.

  • @LLroomtempJ - Your idiocy and lack of rationality continues to elude me. Your concept is completely flawed.

What you fail to recognize is the difference between calling someone “pasty” and calling someone “pasty,” ALONGSIDE with “frail.” There would be nothing wrong if I acknowledged your darker skin. However, if I associated the colour of your skin with a negative term such as “weak,” which is exactly what “frail” means, it would then become racism.

This is why there is a difference between acknowledging race and discriminating against race. I don't understand why I even have to explain this item of common sense to anyone, except you of course. You lack this vital element.

I never said I was afraid of all black people, just the ones who are racist and defensive, if you had been clever enough to read between the lines. The evidence being that she condemns the entire Caucasian race to be racists, while also calling me white when obviously, I'm Chinese.

  • her cleanliness has nothing to do with her ethnicity. Personally, I would come out right and air my concerns. You shouldn't be concerned with offending her racially. I think it is terribly gross and I guess I can understand why you would find someone who ranted to you about racist white people (and wrongly classifying you as such) intimidating.

I don't think I have ever seriously asked someone that question. It seems immature and pointless. I think she has some problems. good luck.

  • @DeviousQuotes - Of course the colour of her skin has nothing to do with her lack of cleanliness. I don't understand why you had to put that in your comment when I have neither said nor implied such a thing. However, it's refreshing to see someone who knows how to read and also recognizes my dilemma. Thank you.

  • Um...wow.. um...  i agree that being unsanitary is being unsanitary, regardless of ethnicity or race. That part of it wasnt offensive. Things like being called "coloured" and that black toothpaste thing sort of made me sick tho. I agree that using race as a cop out is ignorant, but i also think your fear of "coulored" people leaves alot of questions. Do you really even come into contact with alot of african-americans? What question or statement would you be making in order to receive that sort of response? I have never asked "is it because im black?", but i could see how i might if i was to have a conversation with you. I think things like that make people paranoid. I feel sort of guilty now after reading this because i have many friends and even family from all backgrounds and i think i might be wondering what they are thinking about me.
My girlfriend is of asian decent.

  • @Killa2387 - Please read the above comments from me.  I've been repeating myself forever.

  • Also i realize you never actually stated a problem you may have with
black people on a whole (besides the title of the post), some of the
things you said were a bit insensitive and offensive. Im in no way
calling you a racist, but i am "coloured", as you put it, and i did
find some of the things you said offensive. In the majority of
conversations and arguments ive encountered personally over race and
ethnicity, i have always thought they were sparked by both side. Their
are people who really dont see race as an issue in things like this,
you did because you directly addressed the significance of it in the situation you shared. So please before i get a response that is more come back  then conversation. I never once said that YOU were racist, maybe just a bit racially insensitive.

  • @Killa2387 - What exactly did I say that was racially insensitive?

  • @DearRicky - Ive read them. They have no bearing on my opinion of your post. Being called coloured and bits about toothpaste for black people with pictures of minstrel, quasi "negro" (hate that word), black faced caricatures or photos, is offensive to some people for pretty obvious reasons.

  • @DearRicky - Well most black people arent very keen on being called coloured for one.

  • @DearRicky - i think you should change the title, because it makes it seem like you're associating her race with her uncleanliness. And it's not just me. I think that's the only reason you have all these comments. Instead of calling people names and stuff, change your title; it makes you seem like you're insulting black people. That's all I'll say. If you don't, oh well.

  • @Killa2387 - Come on, the toothpaste is hilarious.  It's so politically incorrect it's a riot!  As far as "coloured" is concerned, it's all an emphasis of how ridiculous I am.  This entire entry is a satire of myself.

  • @SWEETBABE016 - I don't care what people think.  You can't judge a book by its cover and if people want to be offended, they will always find a way.

  • @Killa2387 - I know it's outdated.  That is the entire emphasis of my ridiculousness.

  • @DearRicky - Try not to make it so easy, honey. You're lucky this was on the internet. Unfortunately, some people DO judge books by their covers in real life. If you'd said that in a place like where I live, you're balls would have been chopped off...well, not really, but there'd be SOOO much tension. I get the fact that the lady was odd. Okay. And she was black. Yipee. And you don't like people using 'is it because I'm black' as an excuse. I get that too. No need to sound racist about it. And if you didn't care what people thought, why waste time answering comments? Especially mine? I didn't ask you to comment back. So if you didn't care what I thought, you wouldn't try to explain yourself. Whatever. DO whatever you want. Don't give a shit anymore...if ever.

  • @SWEETBABE016 - This is an online "community," where interactive is the key. (:

  • @DearRicky - I understand and i got from your post that you arent racist. Still some of the things in it would be hard to stomach for most people, myself included admittedly. I love satire, but satire will be controversial to some, like basically by default. Its meant to cause debate. Just saying it caused questions to be asked obviously by the amount of replys youve received. Id equate colored to being called something like slant eye to an asian person. im sure some would find it offensive and some would shrug it off. You could say it and not be racist, its still insensitive to those who find it offensive.

  • @DearRicky - "pasty" + "frail" = physicist who spends 16 hours a day in a lab.

"pasty" + "frail" != racist's description of fairer skinned white people as a weaker race.

i don't think we're going to see eye to eye on this...

I've obviously offended you and I apologize for that.

  • @Killa2387 - Thanks for recommending me.  I understand where you're coming from, however, as a writer, I have learned you can never satisfy everyone.  There will always be people who are offended and I actually enjoy getting people riled up, lol!  I'm really bad!!!

  • @LLroomtempJ - You throw yourself in front of the bus each and every time. And yes, you definitely offended me, lol... did you get that from the capitalization of "ALONGSIDE?" Hilarious!

  • @DearRicky - I'm not one of those people...am I?

  • @Queen_of_You188 - Of course you are, but you're kind of funny and cute so all is forgiven, lol! ;)

  • @DearRicky - Thats the blight of anyone who writes for an audience. I can tell you didnt mean any direct harm, or you would have just ignored my comments altogether. so i guess keep writing and keep your head down lol comes with the territory i suppose.

  • @DearRicky - ^_^ Being funny and cute is what I do best!

  • @Killa2387 - As long as I keep consuming foreign saliva, my head will continue to be down, haha.  Ew.

  • never...what you see is what you get with me...

  • You could take it from my perspective as well.

Let me start off by saying I don't fit into the stereotype of the black people you see on tv, or hear in most music today. And because of my certain interest, I stand out (Because you don't see many african americans into classical to modern era music) of all of my friends. Luckily this question hasn't come up even in my mind because the people I've met are so kind, and don't even think about race. But I have been in situations, with other members of my family, that made me feel (sometimes know) that something occured because we were black.

I don't fear the question because a simple 'no' will end all of the problems. It seems to me that you are afraid of black people because of what the media made black people into. Because there is no real reason for you to fear someone because of their race. A lot of black people are easily offended, but that's not only black people, asians are too. So is pretty much every other ethnicity. There are however some exceptions because there are many black people who are what the media made them into.

Not sure if any of that made sense, but you should just consider my feelings. The not so paraniod black person. We all don't worry about someone offending our race all the time...

  • Hahaha as disgusting as this story is. You are hilarious!

  • Asians! Don't make this out to be a "black thing"!  Obviously the woman happens to have bad manners and other issues. However you come off as racist. I've seen Asians do some nasty shitz in their restaraunts.

  • @DearRicky - so who are you trying to impress? white people? you probably want to be white, so you stir up this type of controversy where you clearly will get a good chunk of white people applauding. the point that most people seem to be making is.. anyone without racial issues would of just titled this "one disgusting nurse" or something along those lines. overcoming your fears of black people completely implies you are afraid of them all. i don't really care if you're trying to show how ridiculous you are because it's more or so annoying than funny. ever consider this is why this disgusting nurse of yours thinks you're white?

  • @assassinkirby - Of course you don’t worry about people offending your race all the time. You’re not a racist like her, nor should you assume I was referring to all black people. Unfortunately, she is a part of black people. The only reason I am still afraid of her is because of her racist and defensive views.

Why should I consider your “feelings” when I was never talking about you in the first place? How you choose to react, despite its unjustified nature is your responsibility.

@youngvan - Haha, out of my own expense!!!

@msimotion - When exactly did I make this into a “black thing?” There is a difference between acknowledging someone for the colour of their skin and using it to discriminate against. If you do not lack common sense, you would have been clever enough to understand the title refers to racist and defensive BLACK PEOPLE like her. She is black.

The only reason I come off as a racist is because of your ignorance, and that you are a racist for making this into an “Asian thing.”

@caminjammers - Hilarious. It’s so amusing reading the ramblings of a person who is illogical and lacks common sense. The title refers to the first line, which clearly states my fear of the question “Is it because I’m black?” If you didn’t know, only a black person would ask such a question. I’m sorry to hear you lack the intellect to determine my reference to racist and defensive BLACK PEOPLE, like her.

And as a response to your self-deleted comment, like you always do, “FINALLY someone said it. i totally tried to and some idiot called me a cunt.”

Unfortunately, you’re not good enough to be a “cunt.”

As far as “ever consider this is why this disgusting nurse of yours thinks you're white?” is concerned, I’d rather not continue this sad excuse for a debate with a self-loathing piece of shit.

  • @DearRicky - i'm not good enough to be a cunt? what does that even mean? i don't want to be a vagina so i guess i'm glad i'm not good enough. and you're white washed and small minded. your title is general, i don't care what your explanation is.

  • LOL did you really just add me as a friend? how creepy.

  • @caminjammers - As much as I disagree with your views, they are still appreciated. (:

  • @DearRicky - interesting.

  • @DearRicky - Maybe you could have changed your title to "Overcoming My Fears of (This Black Woman)" So it wouldn't seem as if you were talking about all black people.  Also the sentence "On Wednesday, January 14, 2009, I overcame my fear of confronting (a black woman I knew) for the first time in my life." If you could have said that instead of making it seem like all black people are your problem, then my previous comments would have been invalid and I wouldn't have typed that.

  • @assassinkirby - As a writer, people will find offence no matter what I do.  If they want to be offended, a way will eventually be found.  I don't have time to be concerned.

  • @DearRicky - As a human, I'm just letting you know how you could improve on something that may be misunderstood. I'm just trying to be helpful.

  • Wow! I wouldn't want YOU to be my nurse if you're scared of black people. you should be scared. bitch.

  • People like you are the reason why black people have to ask that question anyway.

  • No offense, but you sound racist anyways.

Sometimes its not what you say, but how you say it!!

Chinese people mostly tend to be racist against Blacks, that might even be the reason she asked.

Personally I've never asked that question, but sometimes its necessary, and when it is, its normally obvious.

Oh, if its just a personal issue with this Nurse why is the whole post about "Overcoming My Fears Of Black People"

The subject maybe is a bit too much, don't you thing. Did you think Black people are monsters before this situation?

  • That last part was repulsive!  Used kleenex.  Ewww.

  • Why is someone feeding you orange? Can't you peel and eat your own orange? I see the 'is it because I am black' question irrevelent to what you have written. It just doesn't make sense to me.

    -Heidi

  • ummm no and by the way since you obviously don't know it is offensive to say colored people.

You are just scared because you are ignorant and don't understand. That fact that you are scared show you think in stereotypes

if you want to learn something read

    Understanding White Priveledge

    or

    Courageous Conversations about Race

they'll help you understand your token self

  • LOL. you made me laugh with this, honestly :D

  • @assassinkirby - There is no need to justify your intentions here. I understand. However, there are a lot of oversensitive people in the world who only look for excuses to find offense and I'm not going to waste my time on the useless.

@shrinking_dancer16 - @shrinking_dancer16 - The reason why there are “people like me” is because there are racist and defensive people like her, who use the race card as an excuse for their behaviour. It's sad when they are adding to racism by trivializing genuine racism.

@Daddysgirl72 - Of course I sound racist, to people who aren't clever enough to read between the lines. Such a question should not be even asked as it only adds to racism by trivializing genuine racism. Focusing solely on race is the entire problem. Asking that question accomplishes nothing.

There is a difference between acknowledging race and using it as a weapon for hatred. She is a black person, a racist and defensive one at that, thus the title.

    @petitenoirtenue - I know, disgusting, lol!

@heidi_helen - How exactly is it irrelevant?

I require a nurse to feed me. Obviously, I can't feed myself. If you're not going to read the entire entry, please don't bother to comment.

@lesspor_favor - What, now it's justified to be afraid of racist and defensive people? Please, for your own sake, develop a bit of common sense.

@OhItWontBeForever - Finally, someone with a sense of humour, haha...

  • @DearRicky - ok Mr 'I know it all, I'm always right, and not one's opinions good, unless they agree with me'

Well, I read your stuff and other people's comments on this, and why should I waste my time

you are  a FREAKIN RACIST RETARD WHO CAN'T DO ANYTHING, except spend time online writing about Racism, without even knowing the meaning of Racism.

OK RETARD...PEACE... GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!! Thats if you even have a dick

  • So you obviously don't understand what I was saying because of your lack of intelligence

What I meant it is better to be open and work on the stereotypes you have so the world is full of ignorant people. Please do us all a favor and become enlightened so there can be one less of you

And by the way I never said it was justified to be afraid of racist people

Even though you may be asian I'm sure act white because you seem like you are influenced by their dominant fear people of color ideas

we really don't want to kill all the white people

  • @lesspor_favor - Your contradictions are hilarious.  I don't even have to challenge you, you've dug such a hole for yourself...

  • No you are just ignorant and arrogant and you are not understanding how unaware you are

I'm sure many people would agree with me

and I'm not going to try to make you see any more

go through life blind if you want

  • @lesspor_favor - Please, continue.  Hilarious!

  • I've written up black inmates, and ordered black inmates to submit to a pat search, and they always say "Is it because I'm black?"  I just ignore it since they're just messing around.  I've written up white and Hispanic inmates, so I'm not racist.

Also, there are 2 black coworkers who I hate.  One of them is loud, overly demanding, and is always getting in my personal life.  The other one (who isn't a punk-ass white boy) is rude, breaks the rules, doesn't work and other stuff.

When the 1st person realized I hated her, she thought I was racist.  I told her I just don't like people yelling at me, asking me personal questions, there are white and Hispanic coworkers who I hate, and there are other black coworkers I like to work with, so it's not a race thing.  I'm kind of hesitant to say I hate the 2nd black person in front of other races except white since people would think I'm racist.
